We had a wonderful time at this organic farm. The cabin is a great little log house with two bedrooms, living room and kitchen. The owners, Jacky and Warren, are wonderful people, and our kids were allowed to help out here and there, where little hands could help, which was a great experience for them. They could help pick some veggies and feed the highland cattle and the rams every other day under the owners' supervision, and we even got to help give a lamb a bath and name it, something that probably doesn't happen that often. We lived on fresh produce and meat that we purchased from the farm for the duration of our stay, and we enjoyed every single bite of it! We had such a great time, it was very hard to say our goodbyes! The area is great for vacations with kids, but also for hiking and swimming, and I would guess that you can do lots of wintersports on Mt. Washington, about an hour from the farm. We spent lots of time at the great sandy beaches in Parksville and Qualicum Beach, swimming and watching little crabs, hermit crabs and snails which are abundant. The water is shallow, especially at low tide, ideal for little kids, so that parents can actually relax, and the water at the east coast of the island is warm. With Jacky's and Warren's help, we found a great adventure playground and a small waterpark at Parksville for the kids, too, and there were all kinds of events going on, such as a sandcastle contest, beach volleyball tournament, car show... Nanaimo and Port Alberni are fairly close by (about 45 min), with all their attractions, Cathedral Grove and Englishman Falls are beautiful landmarks, great hiking at Mt Washington, petting farms, goats on a roof, an old steam engine train, and lots of other things to explore. Thank you, Jacky and Warren, for sharing your farm with us! We are so glad that we met you and we hope to be able to come again next year!

Owner response: Hi there down in Corvalis! What a nice surprise to receive your review! Thank you so much for taking your precious time to write to the site. You provided a lovely synopsis of the many, many interesting options for fun and relaxation in this Oceanside area. We are so happy you have good memories of your time here and in our region. We too have fabulous memories of you all and in particular the unforgettable faces of your happy children. The photos you sent are absolutely adorable! The little lamb, Bailey, is doing wonderfully. She is perkier than ever following her spa treatment. We would love to see you here again anytime you like, and perhaps someday we might even escape to your beautiful territory! Until next time, Big hugs, Jacky and Warren

The kids were thrilled
Thank you very much for the wonderful time on the farm. The kids were thrilled about feeding the cows and herding the sheep, and we'll love to use the beautiful wool for felting. Thanks for sharing all the information about activities in the area, too. We have lots of beautiful memories to take home. (I will miss you Jacky and Warren, Levke)

Grab a friend
Just wanted to say, grab a friend or two and head over to rent Jacky's country cabin. It's a wonderful setting with two wonderful people who own the property. A charming two bedroom cabin with firepit and pond. Running ducks that are so cute right at the back door. They come to swim in the little wading pool just for them. Be sure to see the rest of this lovely farm and dream of this amazing lifestyle. A very peaceful retreat you will be sure to love.

Dear Jacky and Warren, Thank you for letting us stay on this wonderful farm and enjoy this unique atmosphere. Lea and Katja loved collecting the vegetables and helping you farm. The experiences they had with the animals will last for their whole life. The steaks we had were the best we ever have eaten. If my wife Wiebke didn't live in Germany, I would stay here forever. Thank you for all and with the best wishes, Rainer, Katja, and Lea

Fantastic Family Vacation
Dear Jacky and Warren, Thank you so much for inviting us into your lives this past week. We had a great time exploring and relaxing. Here are some of our highlights: calling the sheep, collecting eggs, feeding the rams, relaxing in the cozy cabin, exploring the farm with you, ice cream, the Parksville playground, playing in the tent, naps. We had a fantastic family vacation. Thank you for your kindness! Love, Robb, Melissa, Malia, & Cedar, Calgary, Alberta

Fabulous and Cozy
Fabulous and Cozy
Our family stayed at the farm at the end of 2011. Jacky and Warren were such gracious hosts, and the cabin was warm and comfortable in the middle of winter. The sheep and highland cattle were active, even though the garden had been put to bed for the winter; while it may have been a sleepier farming time, there was so much to do on Vancouver Island that we were actually glad to be there during the low season. Hiking, spelunking, showshoeing on Mount Washington, Port Alberni, so much to do, even without heading to the W. Coast. We can't say enough about the wonderful combination of location, privacy balanced with Jacky and Warren's endearing personalities, and the opportunity to see an organic farm thriving amidst development elsewhere on the island. We'll be back!

Owner response: We send smiles your way and say thank you for taking time to post such a lovely review of your visit here with us! Meeting you and your family in the middle of winter was our very best Christmas present! We are so happy you are planning to come back and we will definitely be anticipating your return. This area is indeed rich with outdoor adventure potential, no matter the time of year, and your little family unit was just perfectly suited to take it on. We have lovely memories of your visit, some of which make us laugh (I'm referring to truffles, wooly beards, Sterling's grooming habit, and the kids' creative writing abilities). Let's look to the future and another visit when even more memories can be made! Take care of oneanother. Jacky and Warren

Me and my Husband Stayed with Jacky and Warren for 10 days in July of 2011. I have to say that these 10 days were the most relaxing and fun filled days we've had in a long time! I would recommend Them to anyone who wants an amazing Vacation and a relaxing atmosphere to unwind and enjoy the full potential a farm has to offer. We will be back again next year for sure!!!!

Owner response: Kathy and Cory, you will be welcome back anytime with open arms! Thanks so much for taking the initiative to become our first reviewers. You two are the perfect examples of visitors who take advantage of our central location. I recall you roaring around to fishing spots all over the Island using the cabin as your home base. We really look forward to seeing you again. There might be some more fleeces to tickle your fancy Kathy! And by next summer the new born bull calves, Braveheart and Sterling, will be much, much bigger but I'm sure you'll still recognize them. Take care, Jacky and Warren

It was such a joy and good fortune to have met you. You welcomed us as royalty on your magnificent farm. We will treasure beautiful memories of our time together; our discussions, our laughter, and evenings sharing beautiful meals. You are welcome to visit us in Europe as we would be so happy to see you again; perhaps someday we will return to Horizon Heritage Farm. We wish you much happiness on your farm. Your hospitality will bring you success. All the best for you Warren and Jacky.
