House of Good Fortune
Only $65/night, $400/week, for up to 4 people! Taxes & cleaning fee included. No 'extra charges' added on!
Hale Pomaika'i, your home away from home on the beautiful Big Island of Hawaii, backs up to a forest reserve of native ohia trees and wonderful bird song. On a clear day you get a fantastic view of Mauna Kea from the backyard!
This is a cozy, relaxing, clean and comfortable house. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you'll need to enjoy a meal at home, or you can have a barbecue outside.
The Orchid Room has a nice queen-size bed covered with a Hawaiian print comforter, ceiling fan, hardwood dresser, and a full-sized closet. The bathroom is equipped with a rain-head shower.
At Hale Pomaika'i, we don't just give lip service to sustainability. To do our part in being eco-friendly, there is solar hot water, as well as a solar electric grid-tie system. We are delighted to share with our guests whatever is in season from the edible landscaping, which includes lychee, guava, avocado, pink lemon, calamanci, valencia orange, banana, pineapple, rosemary, oregano, liliko'i, sweet potato, and much more! On the lot next door, we have a small organic farm, where we utilize Korean Natural Farming methods. Our friendly mixed flocks of chickens love to share their healthy farm-fresh eggs, too! Let us know if you'd like a farm tour while you're staying with us.
There are several varieties of palms, native ferns, and lovely tropical flowers scattered throughout the grassy fenced-in property. We've landscaped around the beautiful ohia to preserve these native trees, and to create secluded areas for your enjoyment.
Owner's studio is right next door, but with a completely separate entrance to ensure our guests' privacy.
Come enjoy Hale Pomaika'i, your home of good fortune away from home.

Owner's Profile
Owner Description
Year Purchased: 2004
After living in the far north for 33 years, and vacationing in Hawaii to escape mud-season each year, these highschool sweethearts finally made the move to become permanent residents of the Big Island in 2007. One of our great joys is meeting our guests in person and helping them to get the most of their Hawaiian vacation!
Your hosts, Mike & Liz
Why the Owner Chose Pahoa
We originally bought this home for our own vacations, furnished and equipped it for ourselves... and then decided to share it with others!
The Unique Benefits of this House
We love being only 20 minutes to the warm pond, one of our favorite places to relax... or to take a stroll along the rocky shoreline only 5 minutes away. It's great to have all that open forest reserve land behind us for extra privacy and the view of Mauna Kea. Our location is the perfect launching spot for daytrips to either the warm pond & the Puna coastline, Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, or to Hilo & the Hamakua Coast waterfalls. Let the tropical sounds of crickets and coqui frogs lull you to sleep... and awaken to birdsong every morning!

We've been visiting the islands for 15 years - stayed at very nice places - None has been as clean and so well equipped as Hale Pomaika'I. Liz & Mike have gone the extra mile in providing EVERYTHING needed to make their guests feel at home. Thank you so very much for your thoughtfulness. We enjoyed our 4 day stay; definitely will make it a wek next time. Aloha and Mahalo.
