I had to write this review because my wife gets all teary eyed thinking about it. Once we got settled in with groceries and found everything we needed to get comfy, we could stop all movement and just absorb the view and boy what a view! Instead of looking across the canal and seeing another house you can enjoy the natural setting with mangroves, birds, fish and gorgeous sunsets. People see the pictures we took of the sunsets and can't believe their eyes. We made a couple of trips into Key West but other than a fabulous show (39 Steps) at the Water Front theater, I can not think of any other reason to leave the neighborhood; unless to take a boat out to Looe Key or the back waters of Gulf side. Every evening we would take our beverages down to the sea wall and feed the fish, watch the Osprey nest across the way and herons hunting their dinner. The tranquility would be hard found elsewhere. Every morning and every evening the local boats would make their way to sea and return, often times with fresh catch for dinner. Access to the water was so easy that if you have a boat you want to go out onto the open water and watch the sun set behind Cudjoe Key. We enjoyed the surrounding views so much I almost forgot to say how comfortable the house was. We sleep soundly every night and it was such a wonderful thing to wake up for coffee and watch the sun rise. With Murray's grocery store just around the corner we had everything we needed to enjoy some nice home cooked meals if we did not feel the need to go to some of the local restaurants. And there are nice restaurants near by (Wharf and a must) but you almost hate to leave the house in case you miss something right outside your door. We definitely would stay here again with some good friends.Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway.
Owner response: Thank you for your lovely comments. We are glad you enjoyed our home and your stay in the Keys. Our home on Lagoon is a very special place and we are happy to have been able to share it with you. Perhaps you will be able to return to enjoy the beauty and peace that the Keys have to offer. We didn't know what to expect when we arrived in Summerland Key. We knew we wanted to visit Key West, but were also seeking peace and quiet. If you want the thrills of Key West, but looking for some days of serenity then this home is the ticket. A quick drive from Key West this home offers all the amenities, gourmet kitchen, big screen TV with cable, walk in pantry, central air, and washer/dryer to name a few. Upon your arrival you don't know what to do first, take a walk along the upper deck, take a tour of the home to see where you will be hanging your hat for a while, or better yet, take a walk along the beautiful hand made rock wall that borders the perimeter of the home along the canal (which by the way is the perfect place to watch amazing sunsets while sipping on a cocktail). While you are out looking at the canal, make sure you don't miss the extensive assortment of fish swimming just below your feet. Oh did we mention there is an outdoor shower? Perfect way to cool off after a day of sunning and swimming in the canal. If you are one that likes to dine out while on vacation then this place is for you, the home is located within reach of some of the best dining that we have ever experienced, make sure you visit The Wharf Bar & Grill and Kaya Island Eats to name a few. Murray's Market is nearby and is the perfect place for stocking up the pantry. We could go on and on so many things we could say about this home. It is refreshing to arrive to a home that is a home away from home. The owners have taken every step to assure upon your arrival the home is ready to greet you. This was our first time to Summerland Key and we fell in love, it is on the books for next year. You will feel the same upon your departure.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway, sightseeing, families with young children.

The location of the house is fabulous. With a canal on one side and a wide open view of the water on the other, the house catches the sea breezes and has more of a secluded feel than many of the other properties on the southern Keys. It is modern, very comfortable, has a spacious and airy living area, all the appliances you may wish for, and indoor as well as outdoor dining areas. We came with our 8- and 5-year old boys and would definitely recommend it to others - with our without children!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway, sightseeing, families with young children.

I've heard it said a thousand times, location, location, location. Well, I'm pretty sure this is one of the best LOCATIONS on Earth. SO beautiful. My idea of a vacation is a perfect private spot where I can drop a kayak in the crystal green/blue water, paddle around paradise for a few hours between meals. I've never done it more perfectly then I did at Kathy's. She was extremely accommodating, the house was in perfect shape, the kitchen is gorgeous and looks like some off of Food Network, and its a corner lot on a canal and the open water. You can paddle on their kayak for ever. I found a perfect secret little fishing hole right around the corner of the mangroves to the left if you head out in the open water. You can literally catch mangrove snapper until you get carpel tunnel. We really enjoyed ourselves. Thanks again Kathy!!!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, sightseeing, families with young children.
Owner response: You are very welcome. We hope you will return to enjoy our little piece of paradise again!

About the owner: spend as much time as possible in the Keys; bought this 2nd Summerland Key home as we fell in love with the location - corner canal lot, open in front of home and ocean in sight; keep our own 40' boat at this house
Why the Owner Chose Summerland Key:
we love Summerland Cove and especially love the deep clear water in our canals where we snorkel and swim - tropical fish, octopus, manatees, lobster - are all right there! The ocean is in sight; beautiful quiet neighborhood
The Unique Benefits at this House:
deep sea fishing, snorkeling at Looe Key; scuba, kayak, visiting with family and friends, spending nights on the patio under the house; watching the boats go past our house as they go out to sea and return; when we are done with our outdoor activities and have the energy we venture to Key West for the wilder side of life - great food, people watching and more; love the movie theater in Marathon
