A wonderful apartment in a very central and very safe location! Only 10 minutes on foot to Plaza Catalunya and Las Ramblas and in the middle of the Eixample neighbourhood. This one-bedroom apartment is situated on the top floor of a building dating back to the turn of the 20th century -Modernista style - and has got an elevator.
It has been furnished with both very modern furniture (Italian design) and antiques. It has got a brand-new parquet-flooring and the walls are covered with art.
The apartment has got a recently refurbished, very modern and comfortable bathroom with shower and a washing machine, a kitchen with all amenities, a large living room on two levels with a sofa-bed, a bedroom with a good quality, comfortable queen-size bed and a built-in wardrobe, and, last but not least, a lovely private terrace full of Mediterranean plants (think bougainvillea, hibiscus, olive trees,...).
The terrace is a perfect sunny breakfast spot or could be used for a slow dinner complete with evening breeze. THE APARTMENT HAS A WIFI CONNECTION (bring your own laptop).
The 55-square-meter apartment is very quiet although it is very centrally located (ten minutes to Plaza Catalunya and Las Ramblas, ten minutes to Paseo de Gracia and Gaudi's houses, one minute to the covered Ninot food market, ten minutes to the neighbourhood of Gracia..) as it is situated away from the street. It has lots of light coming into it as well, which is a rarity in Barcelona.
Immediately outside the apartment are many little family-owned shops like a bakery, delicatessen, butcher, greengrocer, fishmonger, high-speed internet cafe, nail studio, etc. Nearby is a big food market and there are also many supermarkets in the vicinity.
The neighbourhood has got a wonderful village feeling to it; you will be living where the real Barcelonians live. Close by are also some great restaurants where you will find mostly local people and where prices are still reasonable.
This apartment is used by the owner when in the city and therefore very homely. There are bookshelves full of books, mostly in English, but also in Dutch, Italian, and Spanish. There are Persian carpets and other accessories that you will not find in a standard rental apartment. It has got air conditioning, heating, TV, video, DVD, stereo, and CD player with lots of CDs.
Great value for money. Only available to 1-2 responsible adults or a small responsible family. Not apt for party-people or small children.

- Washer : The washer is brand new and is a top loader. As in Barcelona washing dries very fast, most people -including myself- don't have a dryer. There is a rack available to dry your washing on the private terrace.

- Queen Bed : The queen bed is of a very good quality and unlike seen in the photograph, is now placed with space on either side for getting in and out of the bed.
- Convertible Bed : The sofa converts into double bed for a couple or two children. Alternatively there is also an extra auto-inflatable spacious single bed (with bedding)

- TV (No Cable/Satellite) : There is now digital television installed in the building and my TV has been likewise converted with a box. Most of the channels however are Spanish and not too interesting to watch. I actually have cable but even with cable I can't get any English language programmes. I would need to get a satellite dish. Oh dear... I put some classical DVD's like Casablanca, Gone with the Wind, Dr Zhivago etcetera in the apartment would you wish to stay home and watch something other then a Spanish gossip programme. Otherwise there are many books available as well..

- Full Kitchen : My kitchen is small but has everything to cook for a crowd. It has also an electric kettle and a filter coffee maker as well as the typical Spanish screw-top coffee maker. There is no microwave but a proper oven!

The Unique Benefits of this Apartment
When I am staying in the apartment I enjoy on getting up to make a strong coffee and having it on the terrace in my pyamas.. relaxing, looking at the plants, their flowers.. Later I prepare breakfast and have it on the terrace as well, going over my e-mail using the fast WIFI connection. If I would leave the building I will have all necessary shops on my left and right, various bakeries, the greengrocer, a cafe, the flower shop, the fish monger, the butcher, the market where they have a wonderful selection of olives, cured hams, Spanish cheeses and other interesting stuff.. In the evening I might cook a meal for friends and either have it on the terrace or inside, using the dining table where they'll admire all the contemporary art hanging on the walls. Or I might meet friends in one of the many typical non-touristy restaurants in this great neighbourhood.

This apartment was just what we wanted during our week in Barcelona. The location is terrific - trendy, quiet, safe, and close to everything! The apartment is well-equipped, cheery, with lots of natural light, and clean. The owner is extremely hospitable, efficient, and a good communicator. The quick Wi-Fi was an added bonus, and the terrace was a lovely place to enjoy coffee in the morning. I would recommend the apartment to a friend or relative.

We could not have asked for anything more. We were thrilled by the location of Annemarie's apartment and loved the multitude of small shops in the neighbourhood where everything we needed was so close at hand. Being away from the hustle and bustle to the south was appreciated and the central location at Casanova and Valencia made for many wonderful days of walking. We found, for example, walks into El Born and Barcelonetta, over to Montjuic and up to the northern end of Passeig de Gracia were easy from the apartment. We found the neighbourhood safe and very quiet and it was so nice to stay amongst locals. Annemarie's apartment is beautiful, spacious and oh, the terrace! To sit out there early in the morning as the city came to life and as the sun set is something we cherish. The roll out awning and umbrella provide all the shade needed and even in the heat of the afternoon, there always seemed to be a breeze to help keep us comfortable.The plants on the terrace thrive in the heat and it was a pleasure to water them for Annemarie. Inside,the artwork, the wonderful lights and the cheery colours all contribute to making the apartment feel like a home away from home. The apartment is spacious and so well equipped. Everything needed for cooking is available and we really appreciated the washing machine. Clean, fresh clothes, hung outside to dry on the terrace is a real treat when travelling. We would unconditionally recommend this apartment. It is exactly as advertised and Annemarie is a pleasure to deal with. She was quick to respond to emails and offered fantastic advice. Wonderful!!

I cannot say enough about our stay in you wonderful apartment! When we first arrived I was dubious. We live in a 4,000 sq ft house and I was surprised by the small size, at first. After one day I was sold. The ambiounce of the apartment and the neighborhood is not defineable. You must experience it to appreciate it! The apartment is wonderful, the neighborhood is the same. On every block or two there are bakeries, meat markets, vegtable stands, sidewalk restaurants reasonably priced. Lana was great! She meets and informs you of everything, and makes sure you have her phone number and email address for any questions you might have. I have never had a better experience that Barcelona and this apartment/neighborhood! The castle on the hill is a must see! We look so forward to returning!!!!

We loved the apartment and we loved Barcelona! We will be back, as there was just not enough time to see and do everything. Lana was wonderful, even finding an English speaking dentist when we needed one. The location is excellent, within walking distance of Casa Battlo and La Pedrera. Taxi's were available at any time (even 6am) right outside the door. We enjoyed the Mercat del Ninot as more authentic than La Boqueria (more touristy), and just a block away. We also enjoyed having a bakery, fruit market, convenience store and Les Gourmets (prepared foods) just outside our door. Out of China restaurant around the corner was a yummy and beautiful meal. Having the outside terrace was fantastic. Perfect for coffee in the morning and a glass of wine at night. The larger, shared terrace (although we saw no one else use it) was great for doing Tai Chi. All of the art and books gave the apartment a warmth not usually found in a rental yet there was plenty of space for our stuff. Our thanks to Annemarie and Lana.

Just wanted to thank you both for the wonderful accommodations in Barcelona. The apartment had the comforts of home and we loved the wall colors and the art. We stayed here for a week and a half in January. The weather was in the 50's and 60's, F, and the apartment was very comfortable. I liked the location as it was away from the tourist areas, but close enough to reach them on foot or public transport. The apartment was as advertised, clean and attractive, although due to the weather we didn't spend a lot of time on the terrace. It was quite quiet, and convenient to local grocers, bakers, and a nice wine store. Instructions were very good, and the gentleman who met us and checked us out was quite helpful. I liked the Mercat del Minot, a market of quality comparable to the Boqueria, but less crowded and very near the apartment. I would certainly recommend this pleasant apartment to anyone.

The apartment was everything we expected and more! We found the apartment to be the perfect home base, and were completely comfortable there. The WiFi was great since I had to work from the apartment during our stay. We lacked for nothing and had all the conveniences (supermarket, bakery, wine shop, etc.) within steps of the apartment. The rooftop terrace is an amazing bonus! We spent lots of time there relaxing the morning and evening. The owner was very accommodating and helpful with questions, and the greeter was on-time and available by cell phone. There was plenty of information in the apartment to help travelers feel at home in the neighborhood and in Barcelona. We will be back next summer without question!!

We have had a wonderful time here. What a well-located apartment! Did make good use of a 2-day on/off bus pass to help us see as much as we could quickly . Lots of walking as well. The weather has been just beautiful. Plants watered. No sign of the lizard. The stay was too short (4 nights) so we better come again. Thanks to Lana for meeting us on our arrival.
