Wonderful Central Apartment W/ Private Terrace! Last Minute
- Minimum stay:N/A
- Internet:Yes
- Pets allowed:No
- Wheel chair accessible:No
A wonderful apartment in a very central and very safe location! Only 10 minutes on foot to Plaza Catalunya and Las Ramblas and in the middle of the Eixample neighbourhood. This one-bedroom apartment is situated on the top floor of a building dating back to the turn of the 20th century -Modernista style - and has got an elevator.
It has been furnished with both very modern furniture (Italian design) and antiques. It has got a brand-new parquet-flooring and the walls are covered with art.
The apartment has got a recently refurbished, very modern and comfortable bathroom with shower and a washing machine, a kitchen with all amenities, a large living room on two levels with a sofa-bed, a bedroom with a good quality, comfortable queen-size bed and a built-in wardrobe, and, last but not least, a lovely private terrace full of Mediterranean plants (think bougainvillea, hibiscus, olive trees,...).
The terrace is a perfect sunny breakfast spot or could be used for a slow dinner complete with evening breeze. THE APARTMENT HAS A WIFI CONNECTION (bring your own laptop).
The 55-square-meter apartment is very quiet although it is very centrally located (ten minutes to Plaza Catalunya and Las Ramblas, ten minutes to Paseo de Gracia and Gaudi's houses, one minute to the covered Ninot food market, ten minutes to the neighbourhood of Gracia..) as it is situated away from the street. It has lots of light coming into it as well, which is a rarity in Barcelona.
Immediately outside the apartment are many little family-owned shops like a bakery, delicatessen, butcher, greengrocer, fishmonger, high-speed internet cafe, nail studio, etc. Nearby is a big food market and there are also many supermarkets in the vicinity.
The neighbourhood has got a wonderful village feeling to it; you will be living where the real Barcelonians live. Close by are also some great restaurants where you will find mostly local people and where prices are still reasonable.
This apartment is used by the owner when in the city and therefore very homely. There are bookshelves full of books, mostly in English, but also in Dutch, Italian, and Spanish. There are Persian carpets and other accessories that you will not find in a standard rental apartment. It has got air conditioning, heating, TV, video, DVD, stereo, and CD player with lots of CDs.
Great value for money. Only available to 1-2 responsible adults or a small responsible family. Not apt for party-people or small children.
Special rates for stays over 2 weeks.
LAST MINUTE: Any vacant dates (see calendar) in March, April and May for 90 euros/night (minimum 4 nights).

My husband and I spent a few days in Annemarie's apartment in August 2012. We were there for my husband's birthday and the city was a perfect place for a celebration! Whatever one might be into, from beautiful architecture, vibrant culture, exciting nightlife and partying, relaxing beaches, great food...it is all there! We truly enjoyed our stay and will most likely go back. The apartment's location in a typical neighborhood is great as a cultural experience, since you are surrounded by locals, going about their daily lives. It is in relatively close distance to a couple of subway stops, which was very helpful. The public transit in Barcelona is great, extensive and efficient. The apartment looks exactly as the photos show. It is a great place for 1-2 people. Our favourite place was by far the patio, especially on these hot summer nights. The sitting area surrounded by plants is lovely. Speaking about the heat: this was a very hot summer and the place can get quite hot, despite the air conditioning unit located in the living room. A ceiling fan in the bedroom or a second air conditioning unit would definitely bring some much needed relief on days when the outside temperature can easily go above 40 Celsius. The place is clean and it definitely has a very cozy feel. Truly offers that home like experience, much different than a standard hotel room. There are a few grocery stores and numerous restaurants within few steps away. The place would greatly appeal to travelers like us who prefer to mingle with the locals, rather than be surrounded by other tourists in a hotel. I also must say that Annemarie's assistance during our pre-booking communication was great. She was prompt and informative. Also, she was gracious in dealing with a mis-communication regarding our arrival time. We had a lovely stay and are grateful for having had the chance to share Annemarie's home!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, tourists without a car, sightseeing.

Thank you, Annemarie for the use of the apartment for the past week. It is a wonderful home away from home and it suited our needs perfectly. The terrace is such a great space – anytime of the day. Your description of the neighborhood on VRBO is so true – so many wonderful shops and cafes – where to stop and how often is the biggest problem! As well, we never once felt unsafe, which says a lot about Barcelona. Probably wouldn’t want to wander the Ramblas at 2 am, but who would. Hope to get back sooner than later.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

A wonderful place for 80+ people to relax and enjoy the ambiance of Barcelona again. We walked the neighborhood and found many of the places you suggested. Took the train to Montserrat… Enjoyed your art work-colors on the wall, plants and the wonderful terrace where we’ve had most or our tapas and wine – such a quiet retreat! Bread and pastries were purchased each a.m., just around the corner. Very handy and so good. If we’ve get another time in Barcelona, we would love to stay in your very nice apartment.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Thank you Annemarie for providing the comfort of your home for our Barcelona vacation. It had everything we needed and then some. We particularly enjoyed the neighborhood and its people. We had a small experience of how they live and enjoyed it immensely. Location, restaurants, shopping, historical and leisurely walks, all so convenient. Best wishes and thanks.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We had a wonderful brief stay in your perfect little apartment. Such a great place to come ‘home’ after a day seeing the sights in Barcelona. So many convenient little shops right at the doorstep – so easy to walk to Gaudi sights and the old city yet we felt out of the tourist hustle. We hope to come back and won’t forget this little place perched above the busy streets with its garden veranda.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Annemarie, What a great place you have! We did 3 walking tours with Discover Barcelona. Such a great way to get history and modern day perspectives. And Taktika Berri tapas up the street – we called in there every day. It is a gift to open your home to people. Thank you.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Charming little apartment in central Barcelona. Owner & her agents could not have been more helpful. Great orientation information in apartment, including recommended tapas bars & restaurants, local bakers, pharmacists, grocers etc, making settling in to the area a breeze. Small outdoor balcony was an oasis to sit out on after a days pavement pounding. Well fitted apartment with loads of books, DVD's & CD's. Kitchen tiny, but well appointed and stocked. Location very central, easy access to sites and transport.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, tourists without a car, sightseeing, age 55+.

The Unique Benefits at this Apartment:
When I am staying in the apartment I enjoy on getting up to make a strong coffee and having it on the terrace in my pyamas.. relaxing, looking at the plants, their flowers.. Later I prepare breakfast and have it on the terrace as well, going over my e-mail using the fast WIFI connection. If I would leave the building I will have all necessary shops on my left and right, various bakeries, the greengrocer, a cafe, the flower shop, the fish monger, the butcher, the market where they have a wonderful selection of olives, cured hams, Spanish cheeses and other interesting stuff.. In the evening I might cook a meal for friends and either have it on the terrace or inside, using the dining table where they'll admire all the contemporary art hanging on the walls. Or I might meet friends in one of the many typical non-touristy restaurants in this great neighbourhood.
