Relaxing Fall Weekend at Southview on Cedar Lake
Relaxing Fall Weekend at Southview on Cedar Lake
My husband & I and my sister & her husband were looking for a 3 day weekend getaway at a cottage to relax, catch up on some reading, hike with the dogs and enjoy some good laughs & great food. Southview had everything we needed which included a beautiful stone fireplace to sit back and enjoy. Robb was very organized and prompt about relaying information to us. Although the weather was not conducive to swimming, we thoroughly enjoyed the dock as we had an extremely warm day on our day of arrival. We got to sit out and enjoy the muskoka chairs and a glass of wine...thanks to Robb! In the evening we sat around the firepit which was a nice addition. We would definitely recommend this property and look forward to returning....hopefully in the summer to enjoy the water!

Relaxing and Serene
Relaxing and Serene
Robb and Sam were so lovely to deal with start to finish - they made the correspondence and booking process so easy and comfortable for us. They really love and enjoy their cottage and wanted to ensure that we enjoyed it too - right down to suggestions for my teenage son on activities he would enjoy at the cottage!!! Kayaking to the other side of the lake and hiking in the woods was a favourite activity, along with fishing in the paddle boat up and down the lake. The dock is a great spot for morning coffee, sunbathing (south facing!!), swimming, and night sky watching. The sunporch overlooking the lake is a great spot for candle lit dinners and listening to the lake - we enjoyed this space every evening. The neighbours are friendly and there are lots of kids on this lake so a great spot for families. The lake is sandy on the bottom and you can easily walk in - it is a great spot if you have young children. The listing pictures represent the cottage well, the listing description is accurate, the property inside and out is clean and well maintained, the town of Wilberforce is literally 10 minutes from the cottage door to door with a well stocked grocery store, LCBO, Bank, and little shops if you like to do a little shopping in town. Make sure you stop at the Swiss Bear on HWY 28 just north of Apsley (a reccomendation of Sam and Robb's) the butter tarts are to die for!!

About the owner: I am a University professor and my co-owner is a Registered Massage Therapist. We live in Toronto. We enjoy our cottage immensely and we really look after it! When we used to rent cottages, quality ones were hard to find, and that is why we decided to rent ours out to others! We know that renters are looking for value and comfort - they want a clean cottage that is going to feel welcoming and relaxing. We take great pride in our cottage and rent only to people who will give the cottage the same level of care that we do.
Why the Owner Chose Haliburton:
Cedar Lake is a small and very quiet lake with only 26 cottages. We had rented another cottage on the lake for years and when this one came up for sale, we jumped at it! It is a half hour drive from beautiful Algonquin park and is breathtaking year round. It is a relatively easy drive with many sites along the way. Wildlife is frequently seen on the property and along the roads on the way up. The cottagers on Cedar Lake are a strong community of people - they love their lake and they look out for each other - they are also very welcoming to renters!
The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
In the summer, we enjoy canoeing, kayaking, and swimming in our lake which is clean, quiet and beautiful. The sun shines all day long on the beach and floating dock - yet the trees keep the cottage nice and cool for sleeping! The beach is sandy and the water is shallow for 25 feet out... perfect for small children! The fall colours in Haliburton County are absolutely stunning and the country roads provide for gorgeous and leisurely walks. The outdoor fire pit is right on the beach and is lovely on cool nights. We have a gorgeous stone fireplace to enjoy in the winter and we enjoy snow-shoeing and cross country skiing. We are also a short drive (about 30 minutes) to Sir Sam's Ski Resort. There are several historic towns close by with museums, excellent amenities and even some excellent local restaurants if you want to get out for a night! And of course, beautiful Algonquin Park is just a half hour away - truly one of Canada's most beautiful national parks....
