Discover the tranquility of your own Caribbean villa with its panoramic view of the sea. Relax in the privacy of your own swimming pool. Stretch out in a hammock and dream to the rustling sound of the palm trees swaying above in the gentle breezes. Measure time…by sunrise and sunset.

Because of the beautiful and peaceful location of El Castillo de Arena, its thoughtful and handsome design and décor, and its overall commitment to excellence and subdued elegance, the “Sandcastle” is regarded as one of Belize’s finest 2-bedroom oceanfront villas. This first-floor villa is located 5 miles north of San Pedro town on beautiful Ambergris Caye, Belize, Central America in the sought-after Mata Grande area.

Features that are particularly appealing include nature itself: quiet relaxation, picturesque views and privacy with easy access to calm, sparkling clear waters; an orange sun and shimmering moon rising out of the sea before you; colorful ever blooming flowers and lush green foliage that surround the villa; soothing tropical trade winds and a clean white sandy beach directly on the Caribbean.

By day, El Castillo de Arena is drenched in sunshine and the view from your villa and rooftop patio is of turquoise sea and the second largest barrier reef in the world. Take a quiet stroll down the beach, fish or snorkel off your own private pier or take a refreshing dip in your own pool on your 3rd floor patio after sunbathing.

At dusk as the sun sets and the lights slowly fade, the villa undergoes a magical transformation. Relax on the rooftop and watch some of the most beautiful flaming sunsets you will ever see. Further into the evening, have a romantic dinner while gazing at the stars that seem impossibly bright and close in the clear night sky or watch the passing cruise ships on the horizon.

Although you come for relaxation and solitude, the quaint town of San Pedro, with its shops and nightlife is only a 15-minute boat ride. There are also a couple fabulous restaurants and a grocery store within a 10-minute walk. Belize offers world class scuba diving, snorkeling, fishing and jungle tours. Visit an ancient Mayan temple, float on an inner tube through miles of caves, dive the amazing Blue Hole or get close and personal with the creatures of the sea at the marine park.

The 2-bedroom, air conditioned private villa sleeps up to four adults and has a fully equipped kitchen, living and dining area,
covered veranda, thatch roof palapa with bar area on the beach, Sunset Tower with private pool and a private pier.

The 'Sunset Tower' is your third floor patio with a 360 degree view of paradise. Rejuvenate your body after soaking up the Caribbean sun with a refreshing plunge in the 4' deep 10'x14' dip pool. The patio furniture and table offer a wonderful spot for dining while viewing the beautiful turquoise Caribbean waters or breathtaking sunsets. Large French doors from the living area open to reveal beautiful views from the private outdoor covered veranda with table and chairs where you can watch the sunrise over morning coffee. Enjoy direct access to the beach right out the door. Across the white sandy beach lies your private pier with swim deck, perfect for snorkeling, sunbathing or to try your luck at reeling in your fish dinner. Also right on the beach is your own private thatch-roof palapa to keep you cool and shaded, either while sipping your favorite libation at the “Carpe Diem” bar or while relaxing in your hammock. A warm-water shower to rinse off after your day’s excursions is conveniently located right outside your front door. There is also complimentary use of kayaks, coolers and a charcoal grill.

The kitchen contains beautiful ceramic tile countertops and is fully equipped with electric stove/oven, dishwasher, refrigerator/freezer, microwave, toaster, coffeemaker and a blender for those luscious tropical drinks. The Belizean Cedar cupboards are filled with a tasteful collection of china, dinnerware, cooking supplies, utensils, linens and kitchen implements.

The living room opens to a private veranda and a wonderful view of the Caribbean Sea and barrier reef. The living area is a tasteful statement of casual elegance with ceiling fans, ceramic tiled floors and honey rattan furniture, including a sofa sleeper. Included for your entertainment is a 36” HD TV with local cable and DVD player. There is also a stereo CD/MP3 player and an ever-growing video, book and game library. The dining table, along with the kitchen peninsula/bar that separates the kitchen from the living area, provide seating for seven.

Each of the two cheerfully decorated air conditioned bedrooms feature large closets, ceiling fans and two twin beds with under-bed drawer space that can convert to a king bed if desired. For additional sleeping space, a queen sofa sleeper is found in the living room.

The full bath has brilliant white and cobalt blue ceramic tile decorated in bright “coral reef” colors. All towels, linens and a hairdryer are provided for your convenience.

During the winter months, the owners reside on the second floor and can offer a wealth of information during your stay. They look forward to being your hosts.

Whether you are searching for the adventure of a lifetime or a private romantic getaway, we invite you to paradise…

I don't know where to start... This vacation home is truely spectacular. If you are looking for relaxation in a beautiful setting, this is the place for you. Our trip revolved around a few of us hitting the BIG 50 this year and we decided what better way to "enter into the Golden Years". The convenience of this location to San Pedro town for shopping, night life, beach, tours and excursions is perfect if you don't want to be in the thick of things but close enough to participate in them. The villa itself is decorated in very good taste, is clean and very warm and welcoming. The roof top pool and patio were probably my favorite! We spent approximately 50% of our week up there. Quiet time, reading, talking, laughing, dancing, enjoying adult beverages... all in beautiful weather. The view is breathtaking, water so blue you won't believe it until you see it yourself. Renting a golf cart to get around was a wise choice for us and some of our adventures cannot even be put into words. Other than abundant laughter. The owners/hosts are amazing. Very helpful with all aspects of our stay. William, the caretaker, is equally wonderful. We all became quite attached to him and really enjoyed his company. Very highly recommended vacation spot and I hope to go back many, many times to make more memories.

Our stay was truly a great and relaxing stay. Words cannot describe this place. If looking for a fun, clean, and great place to stay, please look into this villa. The owners were so helpful in answering any questions and helping us pick the best tours to see and do. Our caretaker "William" was a great help and made our stay a carefree one. He was so helpful in every situation. You wont regret in choosing this place. Looking forward to going back next year.

"After a long, snowy winter it has been amazing being here in Belize. Warm water, warm people and cold beer! The views from the roof were fantastic - night or day, and the pool was great. The snorkeling at Hol Chan/Shark Ray Alley was superb. There is so much to see and the coral, fish, sharks and eel dazzled! From kayaking, snorkeling, drinking, dining and relaxing we had a wonderful and wonderfully warm trip. And last but not least - William - What an asset! He's helpful, warm and friendly and his easy laugh made us feel so welcome. We really loved his ceviche conche and can't wait to see him in Alaska to take him salmon fishing. Thank you for making your home available to us! Back to the mud, slush and rain of "breakup"."

What an amazing vacation! We absolutely LOVE it here! Your house is beautiful and has everything we could need. The kids LOVED the rooftop pool and we spent many fun hours kayaking and building sandcastles on your perfect beach. Aaron and Amy really missed Cody and Moochez after you left and hope to see them again soon! Craig had spectacular dives at the Blue Hole and other dive sites, and the whole family had a blast at Hol Chan. The nurse sharks and rays were playful and the underwater views were breathtaking. We rented a golf cart, which was great for grocery and Belikin runs. It's a longer trip than the water taxi, but much easier for shopping (especially with two young children) Many many thanks to William...the coconut milk lesson and tasting; conch harvesting and wonderful ceviche; delicious appetizers and meals and trading recipes; and help with anything we needed. The people here are so friendly and welcoming. With the spectacular views and warm hospitality, this truly is paradise. Hope to be back soon. Thanks again.

What a great place to get our diving certification! We will have to come back in a few years for the Blue Hole! Thanks William...we discovered that conch shells aren't only beautiful, but the little creatures inside are yummy when you prepare them! Caroline, the great gem designer! We bring with us a few of your creations! Vacations always seem a day or two too short! Thanks for everything,

We spent 10 days at this property in October 2011. It was just the two of us, my fiance and I (we got engaged while watching the surf from the roof!), and we loved every moment we spent at the house. It was a beautiful home and lot, the view was to die for and the rooftop pool made for very relaxing and private sunbathing. Located within walking distance was the Mata Grande Grocery for essentials (go to the market in town for heavy shopping) and the Mata Chica resort where the Mambo restaurant offered delicious dinner options (we ended up eating there three times!). It was delightful having the option of the water taxi to get to and from San Pedro, very reasonable for our stay. The house's caretaker, William, was a delight, so friendly and willing to help make our stay wonderful. He recommended an great tour guide, who provided us with one of the best tours of the mainland we could have asked for. Brittany, the property manager, was also a wealth of info and provided great communication and customer service before and during our stay. The palapa bar was a perfect place to sit and sip your morning coffee while reading and watching the surf. San Pedro was a fun and easy town to explore offering many great options for eating and shopping. We have highly recommended Belize and Castillo de Arena to our friends and family. It was fun to stay at the house since it is owned by fellow Alaska residents, which made it all the more personal for us! Thank you to everyone involved with the property for making our vacation so wonderful!

Owner response: Thanks Paul and Amanda for your lovely review. Congratulations on your engagement!!!! We are so honored that the proposal took place on our rooftop. Belize is very addicting, so please come back when your wonderful memories come flooding back and you just can't stay away. Next time come back when there is a couple feet of snow on the ground in Alaska...because you know where we will be...and we would love to meet you. You are always welcome. Cheers~ The Morans

                      Owner info

                      Year Purchased: 2002

About the owner: My husband and I live along the Kenai River in Alaska, surrounded by beautiful mountains, soaring eagles, splashing salmon and of course the occasional wandering moose and bear. We travel with our loving companions, Kody and Moochez, our two dogs. Kody is our black labrador retriever and Moochez is our Belizean 'potlicker' that we rescued from Belize. We live on the second floor of El Castillo de Arena during the winter months and look forward to meeting many of you during your stay.

Why the Owner Chose San Pedro:
We took our honeymoon to Ambergris Caye, Belize in March 2001 to get away from the cold arctic winter. Once there we instantly fell in love with Belize...the weather, the people, the beauty of the rainforest, the specatular reef, etc. We instantly bought property and started building our retirement vacation home that year. We decided to share our wonderful home to fellow nature lovers who appreciate adventure and fun.
