We stayed here in early May with a group of 6 adults. The house is beautiful and well stocked with just about anything you could want on your vacation. The tiki hut with the hammock in it down by the water was a great place to hang out and read or just relax with a cold drink. The kitchen was fantastic and we really enjoyed eating dinner on the screened porch overlooking the water. The beds were very comfortable. The whole house was very clean, as were all the towels/linens. The owner was very easy to work with and we had no problems with communication. We are so glad we chose this property for our vacation, it really made everything perfect.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 2/2

The location of Nature Lover's Paradise is wonderful- close to all that is Key Largo, and close enough to the rest of the upper Keys to be convenient. It is far enough from US1 that the sounds from this busy highway are diminished considerably. Also, as a rental, there were far more supplies for cooking than there usually is in our experience. There were more than abundant water toys for kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, fishing, snorkling, etc. On a negative note, starting 2 weeks before our trip I tried to contact the owners to finalize details of our trip but did not receive any response until over a week had passed. I was beginning to wonder if my deposit and rental fees were long-gone. Normally I would just chalk this up to the demands of a busy life, but for the entire time of our trip after this, I couldn't get a response from the owner. I tried to get directions for operating the malfunctioning TV in the MBR but never got a response until I returned home after our week's rental was completed. I also would caution renters who think they might be getting a 5 BR unit; this is really a 4 BR unit, with a bed in the downstairs living area. This was OK for our 2 adult sons, but if any element of privacy is desired for the 5th bedroom it is non-existent. Overall this was a nice unit, but the lack of communication with the owners before and during the rental was a huge dissatisfier.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with teenagers, families with young children.
Owner response: Thank you David. You are first renter to rate less than 5 STARS excellent. The space I have is limited so I will address your negative points, but thanks for mentioning the home's peaceful setting being so far distant from US1, the well stocked kitchen and the many water toys. You: "On a negative note, starting 2 weeks before our trip I tried to contact the owners to finalize details of our trip but did not receive any response until over a week had passed.” OWNER: When I receive a contract, I acknowledge so, and alert the renter to anticipate key information and directions one week prior to rental start date. It so happened that I was out of the country and not in email contact 7 days before your start, but I did send you all pertinent info the day I returned, exactly one day later and 6 days prior to your rental. Review of emails from you shows you sent request for info only one time, 7 days prior to your start. So I responded to you within 24 hours. While you may have called when I was away there is no record of any calls. You: "I was beginning to wonder if my deposit and rental fees were long gone" OWNER: Most rental scams are by someone other than the property owner. You have my name on the contract and you can do a county property search to verify I own this property. Really, if this was a scam, do you think there would have been all 5 star reviews up to this point? Very few owners would walk away from an accrued list of over 1 1/2 year's worth positive reviews for $2K, particularly when you know exactly who and where I am. You: “for the entire time of our trip after this, I couldn't get a response from the owner. I tried to get directions for operating the malfunctioning TV in the MBR but never got a response until I returned home after our week's rental was completed." OWNER: Both mine and my husband cell phones were provided to you prior to the rental. And my contact phone number is provided in the welcome book. True, you sent an email about 1 of the 4 TVs (it works) and due to unforeseen events I did not respond until 4 days later; I wish you had called. You: “I also would caution renters who think they might be getting a 5 BR unit; this is really a 4 BR unit, with a bed in the downstairs living area. This was OK for our 2 adult sons, but if any element of privacy is desired for the 5th bedroom it is non-existent." OWNER: Valid point. I have changed the listing to a 4 BR.

Our Christmas vacation stay at this home was delightful. We cannot adequately describe the view and the sunsets. It is also a very quiet and peaceful property. The house is roomy, comfortable and well stocked. We enjoyed eating outside on the porch and grilling. Dan and Carolyn are so hospitable, arriving with wine and attending to all details. This was a family Christmas with our 3 sons and they enjoyed the water equipment so much that they didn't want to leave the property. We recommend the Key Largo Fisheries for fresh fish. Publix is also very convenient. Thank you, Dan and Carolyn, for a memorable holiday.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

I am a dive instructor and booked a trip for a group of six. The house was very nice and there was alot of room. The pictures are accurate. The kitchen was great and fun to cook in. We ate on the covered deck for every meal. The view was stunning. It was great being on the water and we made use of the canoes, kayaks and paddleboard. The house is in a great location and we were close to several dive operations. (I recommend Scuba Do). The owners are pleasant and helpful.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: There are so many great dive sites in the Florida Keys, and some excellent dive shop ooufits to get you out to the reefs or submerged vessels. Glad your divers from Arkansas had a great week!!

We had a mini-family reunion in the Keys in mid-August and it was PERFECT! The house is fantastic, as are all the amenities and "toys"! Perfect location. We had lots of people in and out, and always had enough room and never felt crowded. The house is well-equipped with everything you'd need, and then some. Very clean and comfortable. Owner very responsive and helpful. Great restaurants nearby, or if you like fishing, just eat what you catch! This is a perfect place for a relaxing and fun family vaca! Only problem is figuring out when we can go again--I'm working on it!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

My family vacationed with my sister's family at this home. We were thrilled with the furnishings in the home. Also, there were many little things that made this a nice place for us. Because we flew to FL, we could only bring a few things. The cupboards had some spices and condiments on hand. There were plenty of beach towels and some other toiletries as well. And, we enjoyed their water "toys" that were especially great to occupy our 5 teenagers. Thank you for a great vacation experience!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway.

This home worked out very well for my and my sister-in-law's family. There were 7 kids in all, ages 9-18, and the house did not feel cramped at all. The location on the water was great, as were the kayaks and canoes for exploring the calm waters of the area. This house is in a very quiet residential neighborhood, yet very close to many attractions such as the Pennekamp state park. The house has most everything you need, so feel free to pack light. We would love to stay there again.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with teenagers, families with young children, sightseeing.
Owner response: I'm so pleased your family had a nice vacation, and that the house met - better, exceeded - your expectations. I know initially you had some concerns, but with the provided information did your due diligence and found the owners straightforward and trustworthy. Thanks for taking the time to submit the review. Wishing you fond memories of the warm, breezy Florida Keys during the long Buffalo winter. Carolyn.

I wanted to take the time to share with you what a great stay we had at your home. This home is perfect for the family. I knew you had several Kayaks but did not realize all the other great, family stuff you had on site. My entire family had a great week staying at your home. You really don't have to leave the house to get the full, "Keys" experience. From the great sunsets to the majestic Manatees swimming by the docs! What a great week. Thanks so much for opening your home up for visitors to rent. We will return next year! Thanks again!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, sightseeing.
Owner response: So pleased you and family could come down from North Carolina for a great week. I love it when the spectacular wildlife comes in close for viewing so out of state visitors get the thrill of seeing manatees, sharks, neat birds, crabs, etc. Carolyn

We rent a place every summer in the Keys, and this one has been the best by far. We chose it beacuse it was NOT on a deep water canal (we have 2 young children, and that seemed like too much of a hazard). We liked the layout of the property, and it's location on the bay. The kids had a great time on the kayaks all day, and the adults could relax on the dock to watch! Great location in Key Largo, on one of the best bays in the Keys! We even had friends come visit, and they liked the place so much that they wanted to rent it too!! We can't wait to visit again!!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Conveniently located on the Florida Bay with excellent access to the Atlantic Ocean, this lovely home is the perfect launching point for exploring the Everglades National Park and the Key Largo marine sancuatary. We docked our rented boat in the back yard and came and went as we pleased. When at "home", we thoroughly enjoyed the kayaks, canoe, and paddle board which provided great fun. The house is quite roomy and well stocked for the perfect stay. We had an issue with a broken blender and the owners quickly brought a brand new one and stayed to tell us the nuances of docking the boat for greatest success. There are also skis if you rent a boat. Staying on the bay is amazing and we thoroughly enjoyed our experience and hope to stay there again next year.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway.

I can not say enough great things about this home! We just returned from a family vacation including my parents, sister, husband and my two young children. This house was just what we were hoping for! It was VERY clean upon arrival, spacious and fully stocked! Caroly has thought of everything when it comes to comfort! My family joked that when we come next time we are only packing a pair of water shoes and a swim suit!! We spent hours on the screened in porch and in the backyard. We also all enjoyed the kayaks, canoe and paddle board. My kids loved the shallow waters to play in and we were even lucky enough to be visited by a manatee!! It came to our dock after dinner and put on quite a show of rolling over and flapping his tail. We also saw blue crabs, dolphins, a sting ray, and two little baby hammer head sharks!! We were mesmerized by all of the animal life!!! Dan and Carolyn's house is literally the definition of what a perfect beach house should be. We had the best time and I hope we return soon!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: So pleased you guys had a great time. Spring is a great time to see all the varied marine bayside wildlife. It's great to enjoy the wildlife close up, especially on the dock, but best to keep it at arms length away. For any potential renters reading this, please be advised it is illegal to swim with and socialize with the manatees. The Florida Manatee Sanctuary Acts states that: "It is unlawful for any person at any time, by any means, or in any manner intentionally or negligently to annoy, molest, harass, or disturb or attempt to molest, harass, or disturb any manatee." A woman on the west coast of Florida tried to ride a manatee and someone took a photo led to Florida Fish and Wildlife investigation, her case now in legal system. I can't post a link, but if you do a search for "manatee rider" the story will come up. It seems this is a second degree misdemeanor. So please do not try to ride a manatee.

Thank you so much for sharing your Key Largo home! After a long day of travel we arrived in time for the first of many gorgeous sunsets. We immediately felt the stress and tension leave our bodies! We found the home very clean and extremely comfortable, the breezes through the house were wonderful, the tiki hut by the water was where we spent most of our time. We each took a turn in the hammock - a lovely place to take a nap. The kayaks, canoe and paddle board were all put to use. We rested, relaxed, ate good food and enjoyed the spectacular view day after day. We saw dolphins, iguanas, hermit crabs, and all kinds of fish and birds. A bit of construction going on next door didn't bother us at all. We hated to leave. A small problem with the dishwasher was addressed and fixed quickly and other than that our stay was perfect! We're looking forward to a return trip!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, romantic getaway.
Owner response: Thanks for your kind review. I deal with all issues promptly. The appliance man visited the next day, determined the problem could not be fixed and a new dishwasher was installed. For any potential renters that may read this, please use the provided dishwasher pods or gel packs, NOT dishwashing soap or old style dishwashing powder.

This was our first visit to the keys and our first stay in a rental house and all i can say is it could not have been any better. We came down from canada with our two kids 1 and 3 and our parents. The house is in a great location on a quiet street close to the centre of key largo . I was looking for a house that would be good for all of us and this one fit the bill. The rooms were big so plenty of space for us all. Most nights we stayed in and watched the sun set over the water from the deck. The water has a nice shallow slope for our kids to play in and the kayaks and paddle board were great for the grown ups to play with when we were not in the hammock. My dad even caught a few fish from the dock. Dan met up with us on the first day and showed us round and gave us a bottle of wine and some deserts which was a great touch. My wife and i spent the week diving while the rest of the family had a great time onshore. The Theater of the Sea just down the road is well worth a visit. Everybody enjoyed our time here and we will hopefully be back again next year for another great holiday.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children.

Our family of eight (assorted sons, daughter in law, and girlfriend) stayed for a week and had a tremendous time. The weather was perfect and the sunsets are not to be believed. We spent hours kayaking the waters, went down to the aerie by the mangroves and watched mom and dad osprey feed the little ones. A special treat was having the dolphins swim by us when we were out there. Loved the kitchen, it looks beautiful. Five bedrooms allow enough room for everyone. We enjoyed having dinner on the porch; we caught some tuna on a charter, grilled it, and made fish tacos. Each night we sat out and watched Jupiter and Venus in the western sky. The house is very clean and Dan was super helpful when we arrived. I would definitely recommend staying here.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, romantic getaway.
Owner response: Thanks for taking time to submit the review. March is such a great month in the Keys, glad you guys had a great time. So nice to have a warm week in the midst of the Chicago winter!! So pleased the tuna were biting; I love fresh tuna for sushi. Fyi readers: Deep sea or backcountry fishing is one of the coolest things you can do in the Florida Keys. However, if you do not have time to charter a boat, I have found you can buy fish for reasonable price from the charter boat mates at the various marinas. CS.

This was our first vacation in Florida. It was also our first time renting a vacation home rather than a hotel. We looked high and low for a property that could accommodate my wife and I, and 5 other family members: my parents (in their 70's), my oldest son and his wife, and my younger son (all in their mid-20's). This property was the perfect spot! We were greeted by the owner, who provided us with a quick tour of all that the house had to offer, along with a basket with wine and cookies. We arrived to the house in time for the first of many beautiful sunsets. The house was clean and in great shape, just as advertised in the listing. Everything was in good working order and the kitchen, deck, and dining area easily accommodated the 7 of us for meals and relaxing. There were ample linens, towels and kitchen supplies. While at the house: - we enjoyed the kayaks and really loved sitting outside under the chickees - we saw dolphins off the dock and saw a manatee while kayaking - we loved the flowers and the grounds and the birds that came to visit us while we were relaxing by the water - the home is in a great neighborhood and affords nice walks (my daughter-in-law enjoyed roller-blading) along Bounty Lane - we ate in most nights - Key Largo Fisheries was a great find for excellent fish for the grill, which we used most every night (PS. try the yellow-tail snapper!) - we enjoyed the "million-dollar" sunsets each night. I even woke up early the last night of our trip and saw the moon setting - equally spectacular! Other highlights of our trip were a visit to Key West, a day at Bahia Honda State Park (beautiful beach), a visit to the Everglades National Park, and John Pennekamp State Park. I should note that there was some work being done on the house next door, but we never found this to be an issue (our "kids", who slept in the downstairs rooms never even heard them until they came outside). Also you may want to have water shoes if you plan to wade/swim in the water. If you don't have any - they can be had at the Publix grocery store for ~$10. But the water itself was great; clear and clean. I would highly recommend this property to anyone planning a trip to the Keys! I know I would gladly stay again!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thanks for such a thorough review. This is great info for any Keys visitor, whether at my home or elsewhere. Glad you got to see the early morning moonset, what a treat!! Also, the house construction next door is done. CS. Renter hometown: Boston, MA

I could not imagine a better setting for our small group girls get together. We had a wonderful vacation! The sunsets at this property are spectacular. It is so peaceful to look out over the water from the house. The house was very spacious and we really enjoyed the outside patios, the deck and the dock for enjoying the beautiful weather. The inside was well decorated and had everything we could possibly need and more. Several nearby restaurants offered great food and atmosphere. Our favorites were the Pilot House, The Fish House and Snappers. We plan to return next year! Paradise found!! Unbelieveable sunsets and views of Florida Bay. Boat dock was fine for my Catalina 250 sailboat to moor at dock. Great place for lounging under the thatched tiki with cocktail or sunning in large yard with another tiki picnick area. New spacious kitchen, TVs everywhere, so much room you could sleep 10 or more with plenty of bathrooms. An outside second floor deck in front and back on raised main level. Convenient to restaurants and shopping on Key Largo. Peacefull decompression time to melt into the nature surrounding in sky, land and ocean. Every watersport you can think of available at doorstep. Fishing off dock or near mangrove islands a short paddle away. I have stayed in vacation rentals around the country, including some others in Keys. This is the best, so relaxing. Owner response: Jack, so glad it worked out well with your 25 ft boat at the dock. I'm really pleased you were able to enjoy the waterfront activities.......I have just ordered an 11 ft stand up paddleboard for everyone to use, something to look forward to if you are able to get down from Chicago to stay with us next year. This property is everything listed and more. The sunsets were breathtaking. The water was perfect and we all enjoyed swimming, snorkeling and canoeing right off the back yard. I couldn't pry my brother in law out of the hammock after day one! Everyone found peace and tranquility whether in the hammock, lounging on the back deck or cooking it up in the fabulous kitchen. There was plenty of room for everyone! The baby grand in the downstairs bedroom was a delightful suprise as well. There is so much to keep you occupied right on the property that we only left twice during our stay (mandatory trip to Key West and John Pennekamp). Our family has spent Christmas in a rental house for the past 6 years and overall this is the best one yet!! THANK YOU!!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Glad you guys had a great Christmas week!! And it's nice to hear you guys got to do some holiday cooking in the kitchen, those granite countertops make clean up such a breeze. But your brother in law found my favorite spot - the hammock under the chickee out by the bay. The property description is spot on...this was a fantastic house in which to spend a week. It was so comfortable and well laid out, it felt cozy, but we all felt we had our own space as well (there were 10 adults and one child). Dan and Carolyn were very helpful, and Dan sent me a detailed email at the beginning of our stay regarding possible childproofing after he realized we had a small child, which was very thoughtful. Other pluses: the sunsets were fantastic and we loved having access to the kayaks and canoe, which we all used daily. We discovered midway through the week that manatees frequented the small inlet just S-SW of the house and they like nosing around kayaks! The only downside was there was construction happening at the house next door, which could get noisy, especially for the people sleeping downstairs. We were all early risers, so not that big a deal for us, but they always started promptly at 7am. It did seem like the project was nearing completion soon. Thanks, Dan and Carolyn, for sharing your beautiful home! We all had a great time!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Glad you had a great time. With 11 in your group you just about maxed us out; it's nice to hear everyone still felt like they had some space! Sorry about the nearby construction.....that was beyond my control, but given the inconvenience I will offer you - as detailed in email correspondence - a substantial discount should you and your family decide a Keys vacation in paradise is in your future.
