  First of all, the space is better than any local hotel suite. Can you imagine the cost for a room this size at any hotel in DC ??? The area is so close to everything that I wish I wouldn't have spent the money on the rental car. The basement apartment is decorated and detailed amazingly with a Starbucks right around the corner which was amazing . "ILL BE BACK "

  The location was great. It was an easy 10 minute walk to the Mall. The apartment was clean and roomy. The pull-out bed was very uncomfortable so our 3 children slept on the sofas and the air mattress (first mattress had a leak so the property manager brought us another one). The master bed was very comfortable. The kitchen had very basic pans/utensils. We had no DVD player or wi-fi which was disappointing. Grocery store was about a 10 minute walk as well. Parking on the street is hard to find in the evening and on Sunday night after 9:30 pm it was impossible. We ended up parking about 5 blocks away! The upstairs neighbors were noisy when they were home, but that wasn't very often when we were there. As for places to eat--there was very little nearby to choose from. Most restaurants are in the NW section of DC and this apartment is in the SW section. Overall, the close location outweighed the minor inconveniences.

  Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, tourists without a car.

  First, the truth in advertising--the location is NOT Capitol Hill, nor is there a patio/deck that you have available and the location is not on a cul-du-sac. Next, on arrival, we had to call to report that the front window binds had fallen off, there were several lights that did not work, the dish washer did not work, there was no control for the overhead fan with light, one kitchen cabinet door was broken and the rear windows had broken latches and could not be secured . In addition, because the air conditioner control is upstairs--in another rental unit--the basement was as cold as a meat locker. Several times during our stay, the WiFi failed and we were left without the ability to schedule activities and airport transportation. (the WiFi is also controlled upstairs.) The renters upstairs could easily be heard talking and walking about, there seeming to be no sound insulation between the spaces. The fold out sofa in the living room could not be slept on by two people, it was so uncomfortable. One person struggled with the metal springs of that sofa while another slept on the regular sofa. This was the WORST experience we have ever had with a VRBO. It could have been different. The location is reasonable, being about midway between two metro stops. There is new supermarket within a ten minute walk. Also, the convenience of having a washer/dryer when one is traveling with small children is beneficial. HOWEVER, when you have agents and owners who don't seem interested in their property or their clients, then it can be a very unpleasant experience. We recommend you look elsewhere rather than deal with all the problems here. Also, though we left the property cleaner then when we arrived, the owner has not returned our security deposit, despite several calls and emails. BEWARE.

  The location is great and convenient, which is why we give it 2 stars. Otherwise, this property does not have much going for it. It was not very clean and many aspects did not seem to have been maintained in good working order. As we write this review in April 2012, it may be that no one else has stayed here since the time the place premiered in June 2011. However, the dishwasher is broken and the property manager has been acting every day like it would be fixed, but it hasn't been fixed. When we turned over the piece of paper on the dishwasher that says "Dishwasher out of order" it was dated June 2011. Apparently, it has been broken since June 2011 (10 months). The neighbors upstairs are so inconsiderate that it's impossible to get any rest until they decide to go to bed. They also get up early, so you basically must align your sleeping habits with theirs. Over the course of several days, that gets real old! The fold out sofa is all metal coils and no one could possibly sleep on that - it was lucky that our 2 kids could just sleep on the couch. We have stayed at more than 10 different VRBO properties and have never had such an unpleasant experience. Finally, this is nothing against the property or the location, but if you are visiting DC and will not have a car, you might want to take into consideration that there are not a lot of dining out choices nearby. However, there's a Safeway close by which is great if you want to take advantage of having a kitchen in the unit. As long as you don't mind washing the dishes by hand.

  We stayed at the Veney Vacation House in mid-June and were honored to be the first guests. Not knowing DC, we weren't sure what neighborhood we were getting into and were a little skeptical about walking across a freeway. Let me say that we had NOTHING to fear. The neighborhood was peaceful and quiet and the walk under the freeway was very safe. Within just five minutes of walking, we found ourselves in the middle of the mall! I can't say enough about the location. It is absolutely perfect, and far better than any hotel in the area!! There is a nice grocery store two blocks away, too. The apartment itself is recently remodeled, clean, and very spacious, with everything you will need during a week or two away from home. We had two adults and three children (7, 8, and 8), and there was more than enough room. We cooked in the kitchen several nights, too. Our only complaint was that the upstairs neighbors were somewhat loud, and we could hear every footstep and every word that they uttered when they came home at night. We shared this with the owner and he said he would put some signs upstairs reminding them of their downstairs neighbors. This was absolutely not enough to ruin our stay at all, but if you are a really light sleeper you might take this into consideration. To close I will say that the next time our family goes to DC, we will absolutely rent this apartment again. Have fun!!!
