Guanajuato City house description
Please see our web page about Casa Chan and GTO,the link is below.
Completely remodeled home in Centro area of GTO. Only 30 minute taxi ride from the Leon Airport. The home is situated partially up the hillside providing it with nice views of the mountains as well as the town. The home is modern with classic mexican charm. It has 2 bedrooms and 2 baths and an attached, but private, efficiency apartment. Master bedroom has king size bed, bath with tub, living area and 2 private balconies (one smaller and one large) that overlook the Embajadores area. The second bedroom has a double bed in a boveda ceiling room, sliding doors that lead out to a beautiful patio and hall bath with shower. Kitchen is fully equipped with utensils, pots/pans, dishes, oven/stove, microwave, full size refrigerator, blender & coffee pot. Apartment can be rented for an additional fee. It has a queen bed, bath w/ shower and kitchenette.
GTO has many things to offer a visitor of the city: history, cultural events, theaters, museums, monuments, markets/shopping, language schools, restaurants, cafes, bars and numerous outdoor sports options.
It is only a 5 minute walk to the Embajadores area with its market and cafes and just a bit further to the 'La Presa de la Olla'-dam. The dam was recently renovated, it now has a nice area for dinning at one end, and there are small boats to rent and ducks to see.
Just a 12 minute walk down to the Union Jardin, Teatro Jaurez, University of Guanajuato, language schools, many restaurants and cafes
Just outside the city in Marfil is a sports complex with swimming, volleyball, soccer ect. Nearby excursions include; San Miguel, Dolores Hidalgo & Leon. There are several spas in the city itself, but one of our favorites is 'La Gruta' Thermal Springs and Spa, it is about a 30-40 minute cab ride. It offers 3 outdoor thermal pools ranging from warm to hot in temperature. The grounds offer areas to sit in the sun and relax, a small restaurant, lockers and showers. They also offer massages and facials.

Charming Casa Chan
Charming Casa Chan
Charming house with everything needed for a hassle free holiday. in the heart of Guanajuato, very comfortable two bedroom, spectacular panoramic view, very quiet alley as I walked through the night with no problems. if you drive do not worry, there is a parking lot two blocks away (at Embajadores park), exclusive and very very cheap.

Our Stay at Casa Chan
Our Stay at Casa Chan
We spent the last days of June first days of July 2012 at Casa Chan and had a wonderful time. The owner was skeptical when we informed her we had two children under five years as one must walk some 70 steps up the Callejon (passageway) from the street to the house. We had no problem with the ups and downs and our two year old did the hike on her own one afternoon. The home has a fantastic view of Guanajuato and has all the necessities: stove, fridge, dishwasher and lots of open space. Also, it was nice to have the WiFi connection to post photos of our visit to Guanajuato. We had some issues with setting the water temp. for showers but eventually made the proper adjustments. We preferred our location (near the Motel Embajadores - which has a good restaurant) over one our friends rented near el Centro (which had no water and bad management). Our family felt fortunate that we rented Casa Chan as it became our home away from home for about a week. Our deposit was promptly returned to us. Would love to return to Guanajuato and stay at this rental.

Panoramic view of Embajadores
Panoramic view of Embajadores
Guanajuato is an interesting colonial town built on hills. Like many or most houses Casa Chan is located 50-100 yards up a pedestrian stairway or down a 100 yards down from the nearest road. This allows for a great panoramic view of the Embajadores area below, but requires a bit of a climb especially if you are coming from sealevel. We very much appreciated the property manager's, James, help with the luggage. The property has a number of outdoor patio areas which allow you to enjoy the weather. One enclosed patio off the kitchen is a perfect place to have breakfast or quiet meal. There is another deck off the master bedroom which is nice and a much larger deck on top of the house with the best view. Unfortunately there is no furniture of the upper deck which would have made it perfect for an evening drink. One issue that we had was the water. The water flow in the kitchen sink was almost nonexistent and the hot water was only available on the master bedroom bathroom and was difficult to adjust, but we were able to figure out how to get the correct temperature with some difficulty. However, the owner has not received many complaints about the water flow being a problem, so it could be a situation where the water flow in Guanajuato was low when we were there. The kitchen and appliances were adequate and the dishwasher was very functional and much appreciated. The property owner, Tracey, was very responsive to my e-mail questions and unlike some VRBO owners was very quick returning the deposit. In summary, I would recommend Casa Chan to those who do not mind some up and down walking. Because of the lack of parking and numerous, convoluted and long tunnels ( no GPS), driving there would not be a good option. Cabs are inexpensive ( $2-3 USD). At the bottom of the hill, there many small stores, shops and street vendors to buy everything you could possibly need, but buy wisely since you have to carry it up the hill. The Embajadores Hotel is at the bottom of the hill and around the corner and has a nice restaurant with outdoor garden seating and local Mexican specialties. The Union Jardin is another 20-30 minute walk on level ground and route is lined with numerous stores and restaurants. The Jardin itself is surrounded by restaurants and seems to be the epicenter for tourist activities.

Wonderful home in a beautiful city
Wonderful home in a beautiful city
My family and I stayed at Casa Chan for a little over 1 week. The home is beautiful and roomy; the master suit is so large with its own living area and patio. The beds and sofas are new, clean and comfortable, not always the case in Mexico. We also rented the apartment for visiting family, it is a large studio with private entrance, complete kitchen area and bath with shower. I had many questions prior to arrival and the owner was very helpful and informative. It is only a short walk down the stairs to the Embajadoras area and less than 15 minutes to the Teatro Juarez area. We really enjoyed ourselves and hope to be able to visit again. The property manager met us in town and took us to the house for check in. Guanajuato is like a maze, it was very helpful to meet him in town at a landmark and then be taken to the house. He oriented us to the town and house. PS the security deposit was returned to me in record time.

Recently my sister, mom and my self travelled to GTO and were fortunate to stay at Casa Chan. This beautiful spacious home is conveniently located a short walk to the Jardin. This Location affords spectacular views of city with a few stairs to city level where shopping, restaurants and historical attractions abound. While it was easy to find cabs, we liked walking in the pedestrian city enjoying the glorious Guanajuato weather. The owner was particularly helpful with recommendations to assist us in enjoying the city. The gorgeous master suite had a full bath and wonderful terrace for watching t exquisite sunsets over the panoramic. The second bedroom was enchanting with its domed brick ceiling with exit to enclosed patio. Another full bath was next door to this room and accessible to living area. The large fully equipped kitchen was clean and well maintained. Both the dining room and sitting area were large and well decorated. The pictures really don't do this wonderful affordable home justice. There is so much to see and do in GTO and this is the perfect retreat. We can't believe how lucky we were find this fabulous hideaway and can't wait to go back.
