This adorable, lovingly-maintained, Westside 40's bungalow is located in a central yet peaceful neighborhood. Ideally located on the corner of Bay & Lighthouse, it’s a short walk to: Cowell’s Beach, Steamer Lane, the lively Municipal Pier and the ever-entertaining Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. Take one of our beach cruisers for a short bike ride Downtown, to Mission Street, New Leaf market, the Harbor and beyond. You'll never need to get into your car.

Our well-appointed, but simple home was recently renovated - adding modern amenities while maintaining it’s retro feel. For a small house, the two bedrooms, kitchen and living room are all quite spacious with loads of natural light. The sunny kitchen is great for entertaining and is outfitted with new appliances, good knives, and stocked with basic supplies like olive oil and spices. The master bedroom has a comfy queen bed, work desk, task chair, and an iMac computer loaded with an interactive version of the guest handbook and local information. The larger second bedroom has two twin beds. If more capacity is needed, we can provide an Aero bed with advance request. We are also happy to provide a Pack ‘n Play for infants.

If it’s exercise you desire, you can clear your head with a 5-mile run on the gorgeous sea wall, winding along the secluded beaches and rocky outcroppings. Stroll out to West Cliff, where the world-class surf ranges from beginner to pro. Pedal up to the stunning UCSC campus or wilder ranch for amazing mountain biking, or just blaze down the scenic coast highway on your roadbike.

If you’re more interested in filling your belly, or your soul, you can ride out to the Westside Farmer’s Market on Saturday morning to pick up fresh produce, meats and flowers. Stop by Kelly’s Bakery for a fresh chocolate eclair or hit the Santa Cruz Yoga Studio for a Vinyasa Class. Kick back at the Bonny Doon wine tasting room or grab a beer at the Santa Cruz Brewery.

If you like to shop you can take a stroll Downtown on historic and vibrant Pacific Avenue. Pop into the many locally-owned businesses. Grab a taco from the Taco Bar at the Palomar Inn, have an intimate dinner at Gabriella’s but be sure to save room for dessert. Penny Ice Creamery has wild flavors made on site with surprising local ingredients.

If you want to take a day trip, there are numerous redwood hikes with swimming holes, a variety of colorful coastal towns, the world-famous Monterey Bay Aquarium, Carmel & Pebble beach, and the San Jose Tech museum.

This is a great facility in a great location .Ideally situated for an easy walk to both the beach and for surfing. With the bikes included with the rental ,not only can you take advantage of the miles of seawalls and trails along the ocean front but you can also bike to the weekend farmers markets,to the marina for lunch and in fact anywhere in town .It is within easy driving distance of some marvellous hikes in the giant Redwood forests and also some of the best golf in the country with the Monterey peninsula close by. Alan and Brit are great hosts and will direct you to the best attractions and to some great eateries throughout the town and surrounding areas .All in all a great well maintained place for a great vacation.

An excellent base camp for a trip to Santa Cruz. Beautifully furnished, a clean, fully equipped kitchen with a gas stove, and nice details like a porch with BBQ and even a washer/dryer. In terms of things to do, the house is walking distance to the beach, world class surf breaks, the boardwalk, and even a long but pleasant walk to downtown Santa Cruz. Definitely would recommend for your next vacation to Santa Cruz.

Our family has been coming to Santa Cruz for years. This was by far, the best year yet! We loved the accomodations and convenience of this great beach house. We met the owners and that only added to the pleasant experience. We walked more than 50 miles during our visit!!! Everything is so convenient, we only drove to the grocery store once and to nearby Capitola. We loved being so close to the wharf, beaches and downtown Santa Cruz. The grandkids had so much fun in the sand and riding the nearby trolley that took us to downtown Santa Cruz. We all had such a pleasurable and relaxing time. I would recommend this charming beach house to one and all! Fantastic!! Thanks for providing all of the added touches to truly make us feel so welcome! See you next year!

I have to say - this was a perfect weekend at the perfect location! Alan and Brit were there to support us with anything we needed and it made a special weekend for us in Santa Cruz that much better. The house is a wonder place in the perfect location to the beach. The pictures don't even do this place justice. It is better than it appears. The beds were super comfortable, the kitchen space was excellent and the whole property was everything we expected it to be. Santa Cruz is not known for top hotels, and I would recommend this rental to anyone headed that way. For the money you can't beat it.

--Location location location, 714 lighthouse is 5 min walking to Boardwalk and 5-10 min driving to coffee shop/bakery/restaurants/grocery stores. We forgot bringing sand toy and diaper, a CVS just 5 min away. --A stylish and neat place, the home is nicely decorated. We enjoyed morning coffee time at kitchen and family entertainment time at living room with ton of choices of movies in iTunes and Netflix. --It is a Home. The owner is very well organized, I found all different chargers on TV stand, for iPad, for Kindle, all marked with labels. The house is completely remodeled with nice appliances, Mac (so surprised to see a big Mac at a vacation home), TV, sound-system, stove, coffee machine, all you need at a HOME! We will come back and recommend to friends!

This is a great place to stay! The house is extremely well kept, and clean and had a refreshing feel to it. All of the furniture and appliances appear to be new or very recent upgrades. Everyone in our group really liked the place and felt immediately comfortable. A veritable home away from home. We do tend to cook about half our meals on our mini-vacations and found the kitchen to have everything we needed to make lasagna, and various other main course meals. Met with Alan, who is one of the owners, briefly a couple times and found him to be friendly, easy going, and helpful. We stayed for 3 days and wished we were there longer. We had fun during our short stay in Santa Cruz, and this house complimented our vacation fun. Look forward to staying here again.

Our family had the pleasure of staying at this wonderful home the New Years for several days. It was a sparkling clean, well-furnished, airy home with a private backyard for kids/grilling/relaxing (and off street parking which is a nice bonus) at a great price. The house itself is situated on a cozy residential street but only just around the corner from the boardwalk/ocean front area. At the end of the street is Lighthouse Park, one of our favorites for watching surfing. We barely used our car at all with so much nearby or within biking distance. The photos do little justice to the house-- We were amazed by how large it felt, especially the kitchen. (Loved the stove!) The amenities are almost too many to list, but one of the biggest and most convenient for our family was the tech factor. We could have ditched out hdmi/computer cables, phone and nook chargers, and DVDs back home. Keyless entry codes meant no dealing with more keys for us or a 5 year-old to lose. There were a *gazillion* neatly and obviously labeled charging cables for any e-reader or phone you could imagine. The large TV switched easily between satellite, DVD, laptops, online movie library, etc. The movie library in the home must have had hundreds of titles. A giant mac desktop/printer in the bedroom was a plus too. We didn't use it for anything other than movies, but it would have made a splendid working corner. The house was sparkling! The towels/bedding/pillows were super clean, abundant, and comfy. The laundry room,a must with kids, was full-size. There were several other nice touches like the extensive local/tourist/outdoor information provided and instructions on appliances around the house. Outdoors, there were bikes, a grill, patio table and chairs, and plenty of space to relax. Everything just felt accounted for any question or needs we might have. Even though most of this information is easily read in the house description online, the happiest surprise was the responsiveness and friendliness of the owners. They were just super during the booking and our stay. The way they treated us made us feel not just like renters, but guests. That's not very common. We will definitely book at again. I'd recommend it for families or a friends' getaway anytime.

From location to amenities, this house was perfect. As a two bedroom it is very spacious and is equipped with all of the cooking, entertainment and recreation amenities that make it like being at home -- well, a lot nicer than home actually. All the way through the process, Brit and Alan were so easy to work with and accessible to answer our questions. Will definitely rent it again.

                      Year Purchased: 2011

About the owner: Alan and Brit are originally from Canada but have spent the past 15 years in the Bay Area. Alan is a product designer and Brit works in advertising as a Digital Production Consultant. We're kinda nerdy but LOVE to surf. We have traveled all over the world but think the Bay Area and Santa Cruz are hard to beat. We split our time between SF and SC.

Why the Owner Chose Santa Cruz:
After spending more and more time in Santa Cruz over the past few years we realized how much it has to offer and how it is the perfect compliment to San Francisco, where we both work. We love both places and the vacation rental allows us to enjoy both.

The Unique Benefits at this House:
The one downside of Santa Cruz is the traffic - especially on the weekends. Location is key. We park our car when we get here and hardly ever use it. There’s something about getting around on a beach cruiser, or strolling, that totally changes your state of mind. We always leave here feeling mentally refreshed. . . and maybe physically exhausted from surfing. It’s a great feeling.
