Log Cabin on Big Brasstown Creek, Fish from the Bank for Trout
- Minimum stay:5 nights
- Internet:Yes
- Pets allowed:No
- Wheel chair accessible:No
Enjoy our log home (2,250 square feet of living space) on the big Brasstown Creek, completed in 2011. Wake up to or sleep to the noisy creek. Relax on the second story covered porch with your loved ones listening to the 'music' of the rocky creek bubbling by.
Bring your small fishing tackle, to fish for one of 23 species of fish identified in Brasstown Creek, along approx. 300 feet of creek frontage, on one acre.
The cabin is within 30 minutes of three TVA lakes, Nottely, Chatuge, and Hiwassee for boating, swimming & fishing. The Chatuge Dam has a great paved walking/jogging path. Beautiful views year round & great sunsets. Other river fishing is also close by. There are several rafting and tubing locations within 30 minutes of our cabin.
Located two & a half miles from the nationally known John C. Campbell folk school, several guests have taken classes there. Three couples or singles can each have their own bath, one on the main floor , one upstairs and one in the basement game room, while attending class. The XL twins in the game room are long enough for adults. There are several trails to walk on, at the folk school, that are open to the public.
We've had great food at the Chop House in Murphy, NC and Hiwassee, GA. Menus are in the cabin book.
Nice walking and shopping in downtown Murphy and Hayesville.
Grill out & picnic by the creek, then roast marshmallows over the fire pit by the creek.
Two large bedrooms with king size metal framed beds, feather pillows and views of the creek. Three full baths. The loft has a twin size day bed with twin trundle, pretty view down to the living room and stacked rock fireplace. Full kitchen. Dining table seats six. The game room has an 8 ft. pool table, with an added ping pong table top. Additionally, the game room has two XL twin memory foam beds, daybed with pullout.
Living room, 42', TV is DirecTV with music channels. Game room, 32', TV is for gaming or DVD. DSL, WiFi available if you bring your lap top or iPad.
In the fall, the area color is pretty from many locations and drives. No specific destination required for a beautiful view.
Spring time mountain laurel make for a pretty addition to the creek foliage. Fall foliage across the creek.
We hope you enjoy Log Cabin by the Creek as much as we do, when we visit.

What a fabulous, well appointed cottage. DIY should hire the owners to do a show, they really know what they are doing when it comes to decorating and appointments. Every attention to detail shows in the decor and comfort of this cottage. Very spacious and inviting. I am so jealous and would love to have a place just like this myself. The owner is totally charming and accommodating, makes you feel like a friend instead of a renter. Gorgeous property, if anything, understated in the description. Thank you for a wonderful vacation.Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, girls getaway, families with young children, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

Wonderful cabin! It was well-stocked (quite a bit more than the average cabin), clean and very comfortable. The owner was really friendly and easy to work with - which gave us much confidence in renting "by owner." Although we didn't have young children with us this time, the extra effort made to keep little people safe was appreciated. We enjoyed visits to Murphy, Blue Ridge, Hayesville, Helen and went whitewater rafting on the Nantahala. We loved sitting in the rocking chairs on the back porch and watching the beaver swim around in the creek at dusk. Our only (very minor) disappointment was not being able to swim/splash in the creek due to the slippery rocks and unpredictable depth - but that was easily remedied by visiting nearby Fire's Creek. By the end of the week, we found ourselves saying, "Next time we come up..." because we really did have a wonderful visit and hope to return again soon! Thanks for sharing your wonderful home with us!Recommended for: Sightseeing, girls getaway, families with young children, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

10/23/11 Manika and I chose this place for the fall foliage and its close proximity to major trout streams... We were not disappointed. The cabin & leaves were great. The trout fishing in this region is excellent. I caught over 30 rainbows, browns, and brookies in two days. The grill was put to good use, as I grilled those nice rainbows on Friday & Saturday night. ... Everyone in Brasstown was extremely friendly/helpful. It was a great trip (no complaints) and we hope to come back soon.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 3/3

This was the perfect mountain setting. The cabin is gorgeous. Several of us meet and attend a meeting locally once a year. The cabin was so peaceful that we just stayed in and had a wonderful respite from the everyday bustle. We rocked on the porch and listened to the babbling brook. Evenings by firelight were the perfect time to catch-up on all of our lives. We made meals in the wonderful kitchen. It is a diamond in the rough. We would recommend this to everyone.Recommended for: Sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+.
Owner response: We agree. Rocking on the porch is peaceful. Reading next to the creek is also relaxing. We enjoy our visits to the cabin.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2011
About the owner: Semi retired, husband, fisherman with semi retired, woods hiking fan, reading, wife. Thirty plus years in manufactured housing and construction. We were installing pier, second story, homes in Everglades City and Chokoloskee, FL until the economy slowed to a crawl in '08. Anyone interested in 14 ft. to 26 ft. boats, outboard motors & boat trailers in central to south Florida should call Ralph. He is associated with Gulf Coast Boat Sales & Jenn's Marine. He has 40+ years of knowledge about fishing, outboard motors and boats.
Why the Owner Chose Brasstown:
We owned a vacation home on the Hiwassee River off Fires Creek Rd., Hayesville, NC. Sold it in 2007 because of the slowing economy. Started looking to replace our vacation home in 2010. Visited Clay County in 2005 & like the small town area. Population of Clay County is about 9000. Our kind of town, not crowded with tourists. Looked for creek or river property for a year to find this location. We knew the moment we inspected the creek we would enjoy this log home.
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin:
Easy, level, creek bank access. Many species of fish in the creek. Bring small fishing tackle for some back yard fun. Country feeling, 10-12 miles to shopping in Murphy or Hayesville. Two hours to Asheville to see seasonal decorations of the Biltmore. Visit the John C. Campbell folk school in Brasstown, the Georgia Mountain Fair in Hiawassee and one of the nearby lakes for fishing, boating or swimming. Several river rafting & tubing companies to choose from.
