Come to the North Western Carolina mountains and enjoy our log home, 2,250 square feet of living space, on Big Brasstown Creek, completed in 2011. Wake up to or sleep to the noisy creek. Relax on the second story covered porch with your loved ones, listening to the 'music' of the rocky creek bubbling by.
Bring your small fishing tackle, to fish for one of 23 species of fish identified in Brasstown Creek, along approx. 300 feet of creek frontage, on one acre. The creek is two and a half foot deep at one end of the property and five foot deep at the other end, so it is not for wade fishing. The shallow end is fine for children to play in, with adult supervision, there is some current.
Big Brasstown Creek runs into the Hiawassee river within two miles of the cabin. There is a parking area off new Highway 64 that the Hiawassee can be fished from the bank or used to put in tubes or rafts for a 3 or 4 mile river float into Murphy. You can get out of the river next to McDonalds.
Go fly fishing in Clay county for wild or hatchery trout in Fires Creek or Tusquitee Creek.
The cabin is within 30 minutes of three TVA lakes, Nottely, Chatuge, and Hiwassee for boating, swimming & fishing. The Chatuge Dam has a great paved walking/jogging path. Beautiful views year round & great sunsets. Other river fishing is also close by. There are several rafting and tubing companies within 30 minutes of our cabin.
Horse back riding, zip lines, and the Blue Ridge train ride are within 30 minutes of the cabin.
Check out Mercier Orchards in Blue Ridge, GA, famous for apples, fruit, bakery and preserves.
The cabin is two & a half miles from the nationally known John C. Campbell Folk School, several guests have taken classes there.
Identified by Rand McNally Atlas as a 'Best of the Road' destination, the Folk School is only two hours from Asheville, Atlanta, Chattanooga, and Knoxville, and is just a day's drive for half of the residents of the U.S. Three couples or singles can each have their own bath, one on the main floor , one upstairs and one in the basement game room, while attending class. The XL twins in the game room are long enough for adults. There are several trails to walk on, at the folk school, that are open to the public. The folk school craft shop always has interesting items for sale.
We've had great food at the Chop House in Murphy, NC and Hiwassee, GA. Menus are in the cabin book.
Doyle's Cedar Hill in Murphy is a little fancier. Also great food. Thursday is date night. Nice walking and shopping in downtown Murphy and Hayesville.
Grill out & picnic by the creek, then roast marshmallows over the fire pit.
Two large bedrooms with king size metal framed beds, feather pillows and views of the creek. Three full baths. The loft has a twin size day bed with twin trundle, pretty view down to the living room and stacked rock fireplace. Full kitchen. Dining table seats six. An overstuffed couch, two 'bear' chairs and two more chairs for seating in the living room. The game room has an 8 ft. pool table, with an added ping pong table top.
Living room, 42' TV, is satellite TV. Game room, 32', TV is for gaming or DVD. DSL, WiFi available if you bring your lap top, tablet or iPad.
In the fall, the area color is pretty from many locations and drives. No specific destination required for a beautiful view. Highway 64 has beautiful views. Spring time mountain laurel make for a pretty addition to the creek foliage. Fall foliage across the creek.
We hope you enjoy Log Cabin by the Creek as much as we do, when we visit.

Brasstown Bald, John C. Campbell Folk School, Georgia Mountain Fair, Mercier Orchards, Lake Chatuge dam, tubing, rafting, Blue Ridge train ride, horseback riding,
Year Purchased: 2011
About the owner: Semi retired, husband, fisherman with semi retired, woods hiking fan, reading, wife. Thirty plus years in manufactured housing and construction.
We were installing pier, second story, homes in Everglades City and Chokoloskee, FL until the economy slowed to a crawl in '08.
Anyone interested in 14 ft. to 26 ft. boats, outboard motors & boat trailers in central to south Florida should call Ralph. He is associated with Gulf Coast Boat Sales. GCBS has BeachCat saltwater aluminum pontoons and fiberglass pontoons. Ralph has 40+ years of knowledge about fishing, outboard motors and boats. We enjoy visiting the Tri-state area of North Carolina, Georgia and Tennessee. A nice change of pace, from the Florida south west coast.
Why the Owner Chose Brasstown: We owned a vacation home on the Hiawassee River off Fires Creek Rd., Hayesville, NC. Sold it in 2007 because of the slowing economy. Started looking to replace our vacation home in 2010. Visited Clay County in 2005 & like the small town area. Population of Clay County is about 9000. Our kind of town, not crowded with tourists. Looked for creek or river property for a year to find this location. We knew the moment we inspected the large creek, river size, we would enjoy this log home on one acre. The noisy creek is relaxing. One other brick home and one other cabin off the paved road. All two lane paved access. A big deal, if you have to pull off or back out of the way on a one lane path a few times. Access & room to park a small boat on a trailer is important to us.
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin: Easy, level, creek bank access. Many small species of fish in the creek, including trout, small mouth bass, & red eye rock bass. Bring small fishing tackle for some back yard fun. Country feeling, 10-12 miles to shopping in Murphy or Hayesville. Two hours to Asheville to see seasonal decorations of the Biltmore. Visit the John C. Campbell folk school in Brasstown, the Georgia Mountain Fair in Hiwassee and one of the nearby lakes for fishing, boating or swimming. Several river rafting & tubing companies to choose from, nearby.
