My husband and I recently stayed a week at Whispering Pines for our honeymoon, and we LOVED it!!!! The area is beautiful, the house was cute & romantic, we loved the hot tub on the deck! The view was amazing, very beautiful woods. Except - be careful, people like to walk their dogs back there! Haha. We saw a couple people walking throughout the day. Not a ton of traffic at all, just one person or maybe two, who would walk back there in the afternoon. But still, we loved the view of the woods from the deck/hot tub. Northport is a cute little area, there is Wifi at Brew House cafe', which we frequented. It is by Tom's grocery store, kind of hidden back there. The drive to Traverse seemed like it took 2 seconds, because of all the scenery & stuff to look at. We loved the drive. We mostly stayed at the cabin, visited the little towns & went to Traverse. It was too cold to do much hiking or go to the lake or Sleeping Bear Dunes or anything (It was November 6th-12th). Anyway, the cabin itself was great, except I was worried I was going to fall & break a bone going up & down the loft! But other than that it was great. The fireplace was perfect, everything about it was great. Tom (the owner) is SUPER helpful. He texted me the address at the last second when I forgot it, and answered questions that I had throughout the week. He was very accomodating & helpful, which was great. I can't wait to go back, just thinking about it makes me sad, I was so sad to leave! I would recommend this property to anyone wanting a nice getaway. We hope to come back in the summer to enjoy all the summer stuff there is to do there!

My wife and I had a great weekend staying at the cottage. It was clean and well kept on the inside but the surrounding area may be the best thing about the place. It's a short drive from a number of winery's and some great hiking spots. The place feels very secluded in the woods and the hot tub was great as well.

Just returned this morning 10/24/11 from a 3 night stay. We were very pleased with the cabin and all of it's amenities. The cabin was modern and very clean on the inside, complete with cable so my husband could watch the Spartans play, a lovely wood burning fireplace and hot tub which were both great at the end of a long day hiking and sightseeing. Kitchen well stocked with necessities for cooking, brand new grill on deck worked great as well. We would definitely return. It was especially nice to be able to bring our little dog with us on this trip. The cabin is a little bit north of Northport, which is a good long drive but totally scenic the whole way up the Leelanau peninsula. We drove to the Grand Traverse Lighthouse just north of the cabin on Friday and did a great hike at the Leelanau State park, the trail-head is just a couple of miles north from cabin. Saturday we drove down the other side of the Peninsula to Sleeping Bear Dunes and did a hike at Alligator & Pyramid Point as well as the Dune Climb and Pierce Stocking Drive. Amazing sights, and fall colors were on the way out but still abundant. Sunday we drove to Traverse and up Old Mission Peninsula, breath taking scenery the whole way. Stop at Chataeu Chantal and Two Lads Winery for the best views in Michigan.

Enjoyed a fantastic fall week at this cottage. My spouse wanted a place in the woods but neither of us is really into anything too rustic. The cottage fit our needs perfectly. All of the modern comforts described in the listing and photos are accurate, yet beautiful pine forest surrounds the cottage on 3 sides. I'll echo previous reviews about the owner's helpfulness (very quick replies to e-mail) and add that the place is kept extremely clean, with nice fresh linens -- no beachy mustiness. The hiking in the area is wonderful and it was especially nice to discover a trailhead just steps from the back door. My only issue was with the queen bed on the first floor, which is softer than what my back needs. That's a matter of personal preference though and other beds are available in the cottage. We would both return and recommend the property to others.

We had a wonderful time this weekend. It couldn't have been better! We enjoyed the cabin very much, and hope you found everything as expected after our departure. We changed a lightbulb in the outside light by the hot tub. Everything else seemed to work ok, even if the washer was a little slow. We loved the loft! The decor was great, the kitchen well-stocked, and it was pure heaven to sit in the hot tub on the evening we climbed the dune at Sleeping Bear, after enjoying hot dogs and s'mores by the firepit. The proximity to the Bay and the lighthouse was perfect.

Tom was very accommodating in arranging our stay at the last minute. The place is in a wonderful location right on Grand Traverse Bay and near Leelanau State Park and the Sleeping Bear Dunes. The house is simple, but has everything you need, including a nice hot tub. This was very early season, but we never saw another soul in the neighborhood. Nice forest all around, beech a block away. and plenty of peace and quiet. The price is very reasonable for the value received. Will come back soon.
