The Whitetail Lodge is a year round vacation spot, located just one mile from the entrance to the Snowshoe Ski Resort, which is one of the premier slopes on the East Coast. There are 750 acres of National Forest across the road, where one can freely roam on the old logging trails and explore or hunt in an unspoiled mountain setting. The Cass Railroad is only five miles away, a historic railroad town replete with running trains, an old general store, and many original homes. The Green Bank Radio Observatory has the world’s largest moveable telescope / radio dish, is only minutes away, and is open to the public. Other area offerings are the Greenbrier Trail for hikers and mountain bikers, the Raven Golf Club course (ranked in the top twenty in 2007 by the Golf Week Magazine), the Greenbrier River for fishing and rafting, and miles and miles of open roads for motorcycle rides and scenic viewing. After a day spent enjoying the colors of the fall foliage, or vacationing hard while enjoying more physical activities, escape back to the tranquility of the Whitetail; have a drink while you cookout on the deck, followed by relaxing in the bubbling hot tub under a canopy of stars…often appearing to be so close you feel that you can almost touch the Milky Way. You can then retire to the home theater (55” cable TV and surround sound) to enjoy your favorite DVD or CD, drop down to the first level to play foosball with friends and family, or find quite solitude on the back deck or another part of this spacious and well appointed home.

This lovely home is conveniently located on Route 66 in the Eagles Nest development, located between The Cass Railroad (which is approx. 5 miles to the east) and the new upper Snowshoe Resort access road (one mile to the east). This luxurious 4 bedroom, 3 bath home boasts a master bedroom on every level (each with an en suite bathroom), wrap around deck on the front, a small deck on the back, and a balcony off the loft bedroom. The first floor master bedroom has a jetted tub and separate walk-in shower. The main floor has a master and a second bedroom. The upper level has a master bedroom and a loft area…all told there are beds for 11 plus a sleeper sofa, 13 in all, and plenty of room for adults and children to enjoy separate activities. There are TVs and fireplaces in the main sitting rooms, a large, rustic dining table, and a well appointed kitchen for your enjoyment.
Whether you relax in the hot tub, snuggle in front of a fireplace, or stargaze from a deck, we are sure you will have a grand experience.

The driveway off Route 66 is packed gravel and easily accessible; however, four wheel drive is highly recommended (if not a necessity) during the winter months and chains are recommended for REALLY heavy snowstorms. Remember, we live in the mountains!!

Keywords: Private mountain retreat near Snowshoe Ski Resort. A year round vacation spot offering hiking, biking on the Greenbriar River Trail, fishing, golf at the Raven Golf Club (one of the truly great golf courses in America, designed by Gary Player), and hunting (in the National Forest directly across the road). The Greenbank Radio Observatory and the Cass Historic Scenic Railroad are nearby. Whitewater rafting is available (March & April) or you can just sit in the hot tub or on the wrap around porch and stargaze in the peace and quiet of the mountains.

Where to begin. Upon arriving at Whitetail Lodge we were all overwhelmed with the whole scenery of the house & property. Its beautiful inside and out. the hot tub was well cleaed & a treat to get into after hitting up the slopes. The kitchen is fully stocked with any sort of pan or plate you may need. The house is GIANT!!!! and has plenty of rooms for entertaining...I would STRONGLY RECOMMEND 4WD. We were in a 2000 AWD Explorer and had no problems as long as we went up to the left, our friends that came with us drove an AWD car....they had to park at the bottom and walk up everytime...which is not the funnest when youve been snowboarding all day....we saw deer in the yard almost every night along with some owls. Beautiful place, correctly priced. The pictures dont do it justice. I will stay again if i come back to snowshoe! Have fun!

Our family (6 adults and 4 children) stayed 4 nights at the Whitetail Lodge. It was every bit as nice as advertised. Arranging the rental and payment with the owner went smoothly and without a hitch. While we were there we received a call each day from their on site representative to make sure we had everything we needed. She also offered Nanny service, dog walking, grocery shopping and anything else you may need to make your stay more enjoyable. The owner also called to make sure everything was going well. There was plenty of room for everyone--our four grandchildren chose to sleep together in the loft and the theater room was a great place for the adults to gather in the evenings. We also liked having a large dining table where we could all eat together. A great house for a family gathering. The only caution is the driveway--it is indeed steep. Even with four wheel drive you may need snow tires if snow and ice are present. There is limited parking at the bottom of the drive. Also there was no cell phone reception or internet--we used the house phones and our calling card.

Owner response: We appreciate your review and we are glad you enjoyed your stay at Whitetail Lodge. We try to make our home as comfortable as possible for our guests. We were happy to hear our representative contacted and informed you of her other services that she provides throughout the resort area. As a point of clarification and to avoid any confusion for anyone reading this review, dog walking services do not apply to our home as we maintain a pet free environment to accommodate people with allergies.

This house was great. We came to ski and snowboard and the location was only a mile from the Snowshoe entrance yet we were perfectly secluded. We had 5 couples and 2 singles and there was plenty of room for everyone. The views were beautiful, especially the sunsets. The kitchen was well equipped and even though the owner said there would be no sundries, there was actually plenty. There were a few minor reasons I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5. Neither of the gas fireplaces worked. The owners were prompt to try and resolve the issue, it just didn't happen. Kind of a bummer since we were looking forward to the ambiance. Second issue was the hot tub. Being a hot tub owner I know when a hot tub is dirty and this one was. The water smelled bad and the hot tub itself was slimy. Other than those few very minor issues, it was perfect, we had a blast and would definitely return to this house. Only other suggestion would be getting WIFI as no one in the home had cell service.

Owner response: Thank you for taking the time to post a review. We are glad to hear that you had a great time and would consider us for future trips to the area! We were very sorry to hear about the two issues you encountered while staying at our home and we appreciate your patience. We understand your disappointment when the gas logs failed to operate on the second day of your vacation. Our property manager was also disappointed when the maintenance personnel she dispatched on two different occasions were unable to remedy the situation. We have asked the propane company to check their tank and the two gas line regulators and they should do that this week. We also contacted the company who services the hot tub and registered your concerns. They informed us they thoroughly clean and test the water in every hot tub serviced to ensure it is sanitary and did so the week before you checked in. They also assured us that if they had known of your concerns, they would have responded immediately; still, we are sorry that the hot tub was not satisfactory and we promise to work hard to ensure this is not an issue in the future. Our goal is simple…provide a lasting and positive memory of a mountain getaway; one families and friends will remember forever and recommend to everyone they know! We and the property manager regret that this situation occurred, but were happy to know you had a good time and will consider being our guests again.

Located on the side of a mountain this place has a nice view of the surroundings. It is close to snowshoe without having to deal with all of the people. The pictures of the house do not do it justice. The interior is spacious three seperate areas to entertain. We really enjoyed our stay here

It is good to hear that you appreciated the three distinct areas we have for entertaining which provides our guests space to spread out after a day on the slopes.

About the owner: Whitetail Lodge WV is privately owned by two couples who love the beauty and seclusion of the mountains. We built this 'cabin' with comfort and accessibility in mind...and both have been accomplished! Come see for yourself and experience a few days high in the mountains of West Virginia.

                      Why the Owner Chose Snowshoe:
We chose this location because it is easily accessible, has 750 acres of National Forest across the street, the newest entrance to Snowshoe is one mile away, and yet it is very secluded...no permanently occupied house within a mile! Other nearby attractions are Cass Rail Road and the Greenbank Radio Observatory.
