The view from the front porches of the cabins is serene. You have privacy, but are not completely secluded. Relax out on the porch and watch for the deer or wild turkey to walk by. If you’re too invigorated by the mountain air to relax put on your hiking boots or shoes and experience our trails directly behind two of the cabins. Maybe even try them on your mountain bike.
The Farm itself is situated in a little valley at approximately 1500 feet elevation and looking out at the local area are mountain peaks in excess of 5000 feet. The mist rises in the morning like smoke and the sun cascades over the hills in the afternoon into a tranquil evening in the mountains. At night it is so beautiful to be able to look up in the sky and see millions of bright stars. The daylily farm is cool in the Spring, when the birds are singing and the fish are jumping in the nearby streams. Summer brings the hundreds of daylily blooms sparkling with lightening bugs. Fall, when the hills and valleys are ablaze with color, no need to drive to Vermont. It’s snug in the Winter, when the hilltops are capped in frost or snow!

Year Purchased: 2011
About the owner: The picture is of my husband and me camping at one of our favorite sites on Lake Santeetlah. It's located near Robbinsville where I grew up. We have a teenage daughter who still loves to join our little family camping trips. I drove the 'Tail of the Dragon' as a teenager and thought nothing of it, because it was in my back door. Now it is amazingly popular nationally!
David and I started the Daylily Farm in 2004 and have been growing ever since. Growing bigger, growing older and growing crazier! We considered naming it 'Blooming Idiot's Daylily Farm.' We added the rental business in 2011 after we noticed how much a lot of our customers enjoyed lingering on the Farm after purchasing daylilies. So, now if they have trouble making up their minds which flowers to buy they can rent the little cabin and take all night to decide, literally “sleep on it.”
It's my little retirement plan. I grew up here in the mountains and moved away, realizing quickly that I left one of the most beautiful parts of the world, so I moved back! We love to travel but we love to come home just as much! As the owners we live on the property and pride ourselves in having clean and comfortable accommodations.
Why the Owner Chose Murphy: Live here... love it. We enjoy sharing the beauty of the farm and mountains with our guests. I love the mountains or the beach; I don't want to live anywhere in between. In the mountains everyone can enjoy the view from any where on any highway road or trail. At the beach you can only get that experience right on the beach so I prefer the mountains. Everyday on our way to work or school my daughter and I marvel at how beautiful our mountains are.
The Unique Benefits at this Cottage: We have Mountain Bike trails and hiking/walking paths for our guests only. 100 acre old Family Farm, 3 acres of daylilies, 2 of which are sale areas.
We're in the perfect location to enjoy what 3 states have to offer. Go to the Lost Sea in Tennessee one day and go rafting or zip lining the next. Visit Cherokee Harrah’s Casino after lunch and be back in time to see the sunset. Visit Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forest and return via the Cherohala Skyway on your fourth day. We’re only 4 miles to the Georgia state line so make a day trip to Vogel State Park, Blairsville, GA - A great place to view the change of the seasons and Trahlyta Falls. The Park is located at the base of Blood Mountain in the Chattahoochee National Forest. The Park offers hiking, picnicking and swimming in the twenty-two acre Lake Trahlyta. Then travel on to Brasstown Bald near Hiawassee, GA - The highest point in Georgia (4,784') and the Deep South with spectacular views of four states from the observation tower. Hiking, cycling, and picnicking available.
