Buenos tardes from Cincinnati
We have returned to the US after staying at Casa Quinde in San Pablo del Lago for two months. The Casa is located near the Hacienda Cusin which also was enticing, so we contacted Sean and Lynne by email and made the reservation after asking a few questions. Every question we had was not only answered but detailed with thorough additional comments. There were no surprises when we arrived. We arrived in San Pablo and were welcomed by Sean, Lynne, and the ama de llaves Vanancia. Thus began our two months in paradise. There is no way to look at pictures and read words that can describe the incredible beauty and tranquillity of Casa Quinde and the grounds of the Hacienda and Monasterio Cusin. You must actually view the sacred Volcan Imbabura, which looms above the Casa, with your own eyes, as nothing less can capture the magnificence. The Casa is grande and spacious, well equipped with everything needed, and very ably and lovingly cared for by Vanancia whom we consider to be our lifetime amiga and someone we will never forget. She is so efficient and capable that there is very little that a guest has to do except add logs to the cheerful fire that she builds prior to leaving for the night. We must also comment here that she is such a good chef that we preferred dining in the Casa to dining at the Hacienda, although the food and atmosphere there is something you do not want to miss. The transportation via autobus and taxi is excellent, inexpensive, and just a short walk from the gate of the Monasterio to the parada. The autobus can take you to almost anywhere in Ecuador with connections either in Quito or Otavalo. Sean and Lynne are very personable and gracious hosts, and they have made the Casa a warm and welcome place to stay. The whole staff at the Hacienda Cusin was friendly and very helpful to us in all respects. We had dinner at the Hacienda on Valentine's eve. There were no other diners that night, and we had the unforgettable experience of having Romero play his guitar and serenade us with some lovely Ecuadorian ballads. We highly recommend Casa Quinde for a peaceful and relaxing place to stay. Sean and Lynne, please advise if you have any dates that the Casa is available in January, February 2012. We are not sure of our plans for next year, but if all goes well, we would like to return to Ecuador. Thanks, Dave and Sally

Otavalo's Saturday market in and around la Plaza de Ponchos... considered one the best markets in South America for indigenous Andean crafted items. Weekday markets smaller but still with good variety. This is our nearest "big city" with many of the features one might expect in such a place......MoreCollapse
Year Purchased: 2004
About the owner: We are two mid-60s retirees from the States, who have lived on both coasts... in California and New England. Nearly seven years ago, finding ourselves both at last retired from business, we began casting about for an interesting place to spend the next several years - a place with reasonable adventure implied. We came upon this house in Northern Ecuador. Moving to Ecuador has proved to be an interesting adventure indeed, and wonderful. And now, we want to share a part of our life here with others! (But not too much – we love spending time at Casa Quinde ourselves. We keep an apartment in Quito, but after a bit of time in the city we usually find ourselves longing for the peace of our 'casa en el campo'.)
The Unique Benefits at this House:
The unparallelled beauty and ambiance of the setting... The views of the neighborhood volcanoes (dormant and extinct) and especially the sunsets as seen from the front porch...
