Tufts Cottage is a fully restored c. 1880 house in the center of the quaint quiet hamlet of East Blue Hill. The house is 150 feet from the shore of Blue Hill Bay and looks down The Bay and across McHeard's Cove. It is a bright, sun filled house with large windows, tall ceilings and a large south and west facing screen porch overlooking the water. Free wireless internet access is accessible via the next door Library. The Curtis Cove beach with warm(!) swimming is a five minute walk down the quiet road.
East Blue Hill: East Blue Hill is a small village at the head of Blue Hill Bay with long views down the Bay and across to the mountains in Acadia National Park. It includes a church, part time library, post office, park, playground and boat launch. It has a close community of year round and summer residents who meet every Saturday to pick up their mail at the Post Office and for coffee at the Library. Local farms offer fresh produce and eggs. Curtis Cove, a five minutes walk from the Cottage, offers some of the best and warmest swimming on the Downeast Coast. Acadia National Park is a 45 minute drive.
Blue Hill: The Town of Blue Hill is four miles away and offers all daily household needs including a large super market, a general store, drug store, cafes and restaurants, gas stations and garages, a hospital, a fine public library, two historic homes open to the public, etc. Kneisel Hall, the world renowned string chamber music camp, offers twice weekly concerts. Numerous lectures and talks on a wide variety of topics are also on offer.
Blue Hill is named for the 1000 foot granite dome that has public foot paths to the summit where fine views are offered across the Bay, over to the Camden Hills and as far as Isle au Haut. Other public walking trails are scattered across the Blue Hill peninsula.

Year Purchased: 1917
About the owner: The owner is the fourth generation of his family to own Tufts Cottage. It was purchased by John and Flora Tufts when they returned to East Blue Hill where he had been a stone cutter and she a local farm girl. After their deaths in the late 1920s the Cottage was used as a family Summer Cottage until it was winterized in 2005.
Why the Owner Chose Blue Hill:
Tufts Cottage is a fine yet modernized example of a typical late 19th century village house / summer cottage. Many of its fixtures and furniture are original to the purchase of the house in 1917. The Cottage was updated in 2005 while retaining the details and character of the original house.

Tufts Cottage has a large south facing screened porch overlooking McHeard's Cove providing space for exterior dining and relaxing.
