You'll love the home, but the view will blow you away! A spectacular 'view' home set high up on a hill overlooking several pristine beaches, Catalina Islands, night lights and the Flamingo marina. Secluded, yet within minutes of beautiful beaches, restaurants, stores, night life, casinos, night clubs, sport fishing, sunset cruises, scuba diving, snorkeling, horseback riding, canopy tours, championship golf and surfing.
This private home is nicely furnished with all the amenities needed for a perfect vacation. A beautiful infinity edge pool highlights the back yard, with ever-changing views of the beaches and islands below. There are patios, decks with lounge chairs and green areas for lots of outside activities. Inside, you'll find a master bedroom with a king-size bed (with new premium mattress)and private ceramic tile bath. Two spare bedrooms share a full bath and have a queen bed in one and a double bed in the other. All the bedrooms have a view of the ocean. The living and dining rooms have three walls of glass with a 180 degree view of the ocean. Furnishings include a sofa, love seat, glass dining room table, Tiffany lamps and leather rocking chairs. The full kitchen includes everything you need, like a microwave oven, full-size stove and refrigerator, dishes, glasses, pots and pans, blender, toaster, coffee maker and grinder.
Wildlife is abundant at my home. Wake up to the sounds of Howler monkeys. See flocks of parrots flying overhead, as well as Turkey Vultures, Magpie Bluejays, Hummingbirds, Blue-Crowned Mot Mots, Crimson-collar Tanagers, to name a few. Beautiful Butterflies, fireflies and HUGE colorful grasshoppers, as well as Armadillos, Mapaches (raccoon/anteater looking animals), Racoons, colorful lizzards and Iguanas.
NEW, NEW, NEW!!!!! I now WIFI at my home. Bring your laptop, Ipad, etc, or use my Netbook! There is also a cell phone for your use, to make local calls, while at my home. I also have unlimited FREE calling to and from the US, using my US virtual phone number. Leave a phone number for friends and family, so they can be in touch with you. It is a US number, so no international charges apply. You can also call anyone in the US and Canada for FREE!!
The home is located 25 minutes from the Tamarindo Domestic Airport, one hour from the Liberia International Airport (LIR) and four hours from the San Jose International Airport (SJO). The nearest white-sand beach is a five minute drive, with several to choose from with-in 15 minutes. Local grocery stores are with-in five minutes, as well as several restaurants, bars, coffee shops, juice bars.
Whether you are looking for a place to relax and unwind and enjoy a little piece of paradise, or a home base to explore what Costa Rica is all about, then Casa Prieta is for you!
For additional photos of my home, a reservation form, guest book and a welcome letter with lots of information, please visit my own web site link listed below at 'Links to more information'.
PLEASE NOTE: My home is NOT with in walking distance to the beaches. It is located 500 feet above the beaches and it is a 5 minute drive down the hill, to the beaches, restaurants, grocery stores, bars, etc. Of course, you can walk to it, but it is long way back up the hill! Great, if you like the exercise!
There is a completely different 'feel' up at my home. Usually there is a nice breeze, which keeps the mosquitoes away. And the views, as stated in most all of the reviews, is spectacular!

As they say, location, location, location. The view from the house is unsurpassed. Every time we returned, we all exclaimed at the view from the parking space. Definitely the best we have every seen. We experience perfect weather and perfect sunsets. It was amazing to see how the temperature would drop and the wind would pick up each evening. We also enjoyed the pool- again- the best view ever from a pool! We made excursions early each day so we could visit the beaches when they were not crowded. We enjoyed Playa Pan Azucar, Danta, Pence, Prieta and Flamingo. The zip line tour at Congo Canopy Tour was a hit. Thanks for sharing this wonderful slice of paradise.Did you find this review helpful? What a wonderful 11 days we have had at your beautiful home! The biggest thrill was driving up our driveway for the first time and seeing the view! You were not joking when you said it was "spectacular"! We did so much while we were here here- zip lining, sailing on "Panache"- excellent! The Palo Verde tour- the monkeys were so cute. We had lots of delicious meals both here at Casa Prieta, as well as out- Sugar Beach Hotel, Las Brisas, Camaron Darado, Marie's Rest (yummie breakfast) + more. It was so wonderful to return each day and refresh ourselves in the beautiful pool. Our 9 year old loved it!! We saw every beach possible as well as Danta, Conchal, Prieta, Penca, Sugar and enjoyed surf lessons at Tamarindo. We will never forget our beautiful oasis and will definitely be returning to Costa Rica. Thanks Rick for sharing!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

This was our first trip out of the states and immediately it was evident. we were in a different country. My favorite sites on the way from the airport- a man riding a bike, pulling a pony, a man on a motorcycle with a 6 foot ladder tied to the back. We toured Palo Verde National Park and ended up with Costa Rican diplomats on our tour. Lunch was spectacular! Our favorite was the Lazy Lizard sunset and snorkeling tour with Luis and Jesus. Just 6 passengers on a tour. We loved eating at Sugar Beach and La Penca restaurant at the bottom of the hill. The electricity went out while we were dining and it was fun! We had a dog follow us everywhere we went as they are loose here and very sweet. You will here chirping sounds at night and during the day. We finally figured out they were Geckos on the side of the house. Just a note- be careful on the steps to the lower portion of the deck. It was hard to see. (I just installed lights there, right after these people left!) Most amazing trip!!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Where do I begin? This place is paradise. I came here with my 2 friends and sister to relax and get away from the bustle of the USA. It was wonderful and we will come back. The staff for this house is great. I felt like royalty. They handled everything. This house is perfect!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Thank you so much Rick for letting us stay at your beautiful home. The pictures don't do it justice! We loved the beach at Sugar Beach, private and beautiful. The view at Mar y Sol in Flamingo is a must see! Auto Mercado in Tamarindo is a great grocery store with good prices. Las Brisas in Playa Potrero is a great place to eat and have an Imperial beer. Maxwell's in Potrero has good food and Wifi. We loved seeing all the birds and even saw some monkeys in front of the house in the evening. Walk up the hill to see beautiful views and other gorgeous homes. If you don't mind a drive, a trip to Monteverde is a must! If you want to see the other part of Costa Rica (rainforest). Make friends with the geckos, because they are everywhere. The Congo zip line is great at a great price $35. Awesome trip with family! We will be returning for sure! PS, don't be scared of the wind!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Try a catamaran sunset cruise, awesome! Pala Verde river cruise a must, but must get there early for much better viewing. Sunsets here are absolutely gorgeous! Take lots of pictures! Howler monkeys sound like barking dogs, a very cool sound. Great local restaurants, ok to eat any local food or fruit. Good too! Enjoy your trip! Will definitely return. Pura vida!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

Thank you Rick for sharing your beautiful home with us! We love the view and feeding the birds is awesome! We had a super relaxing week and enjoyed the home. We were lucky to be here during Fat Tuesday and saw Mardi Gras parade-how cool!! Also, we went to the bull riding in town and that was super fun. Went to the Shack for breakfast and the folks there are super nice...and the food yummy. We personally loved the drive up the hill, it was a fun challenge. Most of all, enjoy your trip and all this beautiful country has to offer.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Our stay at Casa Prieta is sadly coming to an end. We had 3 great days--thank you Rick! We arrived here after spending 4 days in Arenal. We came for relaxation and the views--we were not disappointed! The pics online do not do it justice. The parrots and monkeys were very talkative each morning. Dinner at Las Brisas on the beach was wonderful and breakfast at the Shack was a great place to mingle with the locals-so go meet Harry! This was our 1st trip to CR & definately not our last. It's 9 PM and we are sitting outside watching the sky for the last time. Our 2nd time to CR-even better than the 1st. Men caught 10 sailfish and 20+ tuna. Dervin @ Yellow Fin Sport is excellent. Zip lines at the Congo the most fun. Dinner at Marie's, Hotel Sugar Beach & Camaron Dorado were great. Service at C.Dorado-fantastic. Wake up at 5:30 to listen to Howler monkeys talking. On a clear night, look for Venus twinkling in the night sky. Be kind to the Tico's & try to speak their language.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2002
About the owner: I 'discovered' Costa Rica in 2001 and immediately fell in love with all its beauty and diversity. As a home builder in the Northeast, I found it very difficult to build in the winter months. My friend just returned from CR and told me all about how beautiful it was, how friendly the people were and that you could buy property there as a foreigner. On my first trip there, I had no intention on buying a home, but rather to find a lot and build a home, until I found Casa Prieta! I stood in the backyard, overlooking the ocean and islands below the home and quickly changed my mind. This is what I've been looking for all my life. I decided to buy the home and rent it to others to enjoy too. It gives me great pleasure to be able to share such a place and hear what others have to say in my guest books at the home. I hope to share it with you too!
Why the Owner Chose Flamingo Beach:
Guanacaste is the driest, sunniest part of Costa Rica. There is usually a slight breeze, so no bugs! And of course, you get to see glorious sunsets over the ocean, 365 days a year!!
The Unique Benefits at this Villa:
It's the VIEW, VIEW, VIEW!!!!!! The ever-changing vista is what I like most about my home. You can stay on the beach, but at night, all you see is darkness. At my home, during the day, you see gorgeous views of the ocean, islands, surf, mountains and valleys. At night, you see all the lights below the home. Breathtaking!!
