Just spent the weekend here with a group of friends and am already aching to go back. Its the strangest thing, after you park and walk through the gates, you feel like you are much further away. Like in another state, Colorado? Montana? Clearly a lot of care has been put into the property to make it luxurious, unique and extremely comfortable. While the main house is not an amazing building itself (more like a friend's nice home than a resort), some important remodeling and so many small touches build up to a great vacation home (very clean, great linens, yummy soaps and candles, quality kitchen supplies, very comfortable furnishings and oh-my-goodness-the-beds!) Same for the guest house. But then there is the barn house - wow! What a magical place. All I can say is an evening on that deck, under the stars, is heavenly. The pool is beautiful. The property is gorgeous. And the views are to die for. This is great location for a family reunion, an executive team retreat, or even a long weekend celebration with friends. I can't wait to go back. I dont think the photos here do it justice! BTW - I hear you can walk into old Julian for some apple pie, and although it seems close enough, I can't imagine leaving the property.

Owner response: We are happy to hear that you had a great time at Sacred Mountain Retreat. The next time you stay in Julian, we will have to make sure you get some of that famous, Julian Apple Pie!

There are certain getaways a family will always remember. For our family this will be one of them. Spending three nights last weekend at Sacred Mountain Retreat was a deeply relaxing time of being fully in the presence of each other, playing in the snow, and enjoying the amenities of the property-like relaxing in the built-in Jacuzzi, playing as a family on the large grassy fields, and warming up next to the wood burning stove, to name a few. The property’s three living spaces provided ample accommodations for our family of eighteen. The buildings were so unique that many of us rotated where we slept each night to experience each of these thoughtfully furnished locations. Another cool feature of the property was our ability to all eat together in the same dining area. In several spots there were large farmhouse tables that were perfect for our family. The property was exactly as described in the listing. From our initial contact to our checking out, the owners were beyond gracious, making sure that our stay exceeded expectation. Since Sacred Mountain Retreat was gorgeous in the winter, we hope to return in the summer and see how beautiful it is then as well.

Owner response: So pleased to hear that you had a "deeply relaxing" time at Sacred Mountain Retreat. The property has a knack of doing that...making you slow down and relax. What a great idea that you slept in different places during your stay! A wonderful way to get the feeling of each "house" as they all offer something different and unique. We would be happy to have you come back and enjoy the warmer months. Spring, Summer and Fall are just beyond belief!

This was a perfect location for our Leadership Retreat. One of the coolest things was how the property itself started the weekend out so happy. Everyone walked around on a tour and just kept saying how amazing everything was. The location is great, the scenery is great, and the house, guest house, and barn are perfect. The pictures do not do it justice, you need to go and see it for yourself! It really was nice to see that every detail was thought of as they designed the whole place, from the 1200 thread count sheets to the commercial grade refrigerator to the flat screen tv's in most of the bedrooms. Also, working with the owners was a great experience. They treated us like we were friends! I will definitely be coming back. I hope you enjoy your next trip here.

Owner response: We are thrilled that you enjoyed your stay and had a great retreat! We look forward to having you back in the Fall. Until then...

Bliss. From the minute my friend and I walked through the gate, we knew we were in for the kind of memory that keeps you company during long stretches stuck in LA, braving the smog and traffic. In fact, there were several times over the weekend when I was so obviously in the middle of what was going to be an amazing memory that I had to convince myself not to get nostalgic for what was still happening right in front of me. This isn't a memory yet, it's actually happening, it really is this nice, try to hold on. Now I'm back in LA, alas, working to meet the next in an endless cycle of deadlines and demands. Now, the weekend actually is a memory, keeping me company at my desk. Like all memories, I'll carry it with me -- walking through the door to hear the laughter of my friends who'd already arrived, waking up to see the ranch for the first time in the full light of day, walking into town to purchase the toothbrush I thought I forgot ... I'll carry them all, in the hope that the memories eventually grow into something more. Maybe a tradition -- something to both look back on and look forward to. A home away from home. - Written by T.S.

This place is absolutely as advertised! I brought my family here for a quiet weekend getaway and we were amazed by the property and the attention to detail. It is the perfect blend of a rustic, mountain vacation with all the modern ameneties needed to truly relax. You could literally spend the entire time on the property as there is so much to enjoy, however I recommend popping into town or enjoying some of the nearby trails as the surrounding area is so beautiful. The property couldn't be situated in a better location as it's close to town, however it feels a world away from everything when you step outside at night to sneak a peak at the stars, which appear to be within arms reach. We lucked out during our stay as we happened to be there for the Orionid Meteor Shower which put on quite the show. Another highlight was waking up and watching the wild turkeys make their way through the property. Again, it doesn't feel as though you are an hour and a half away from San Diego. We would definitely come back and fully intend to.

My family had the opportunity to enjoy Sacred Mountain Retreat last weekend. It was my Mom's 92nd birthday and we had hoped for a well appointed home with a nice outside area. What we got was a "RESORT." The main house was perfect for the elders who all had incredible rooms with high end duvets, linens, towels, pillows, etc, and BIG bedrooms, all with TV's. In the guest house we found the same thing..with added touches of bathrobes, fridge, kettle for tea. It felt like our own B&B. We didn't use the Barn below but took a peak. It was a large open living area big enough for a 12 top table. All the barn doors open up to a large wrap around decks with views galore. We all agreed that next time when we have more guests, this will be the place hang out for afternoon sunsets. The pool area was a hit. It is set away from the house and has its own changing room bathroom, and fridge. You could spend the whole day here in the trees, grass and views and not be bothered by any activities at the main house. We had no problem using the jacuzzi and/or pool. The pool area furniture is all Smith and Hawkins which was so comfortable, a few of us took advantage of an afternoon nap. The pool was just the start. The deck off the main house was huge with lots of seating, and the same incredible views. We all looked forward to our morning coffee on the deck. AND, probably spent more time here than anywhere else. The property is surrounded by grassy area's. The minute you think you know the property is the minute you find another area that is just as special the the last one. There is a pergola in the lower area with table that seats 12 and fire-pit. Between that and the pool are 6 adirondack chairs on their own just for book reading or taking in the views. A vegetable garden. a playhouse, a side yard out the slider of queen bedroom, the fountain... I can go on but you need to stay here to appreciate it. We are still buzzing after such a nice weekend and much of it contributed to the home. It far exceeded our expectations and we will be back next year for her 93rd. Kudos' to the Owner for making her home such a special place.

This property exceeded our expectations in every way. It was twenty times more beautiful than I hoped it would be more from the pictures. There is just no way to capture the expansive beauty of this place! Everywhere you are, you can see the beautiful backdrop of the mountain. While there, we saw deer, bunnies and tons of turkeys. We felt so removed from everything. The houses had everything we needed. We could have brought nothing with us and been set! There is every kind of kitchen utensil and dish you could ask for, and tons of extra blankets, towels, you name it. The houses are clean and beautifully furnished, and they feel so cozy. I want to go back in the winter - this place seems perfect for a family holiday! This was our first time in Julian, and staying at this property made it amazing. We can't wait to go back.

Sacred Mountain exceeded all of our expectations! We had our family join us (15 in all) for an amazing weekend to surprise my wife for her birthday. Not only was there room for each family to have their own space, but the property lent itself to bring such delight to everyone as we enjoyed ALL of it's beautiful amenities. The out-door living spaces provided a gorgeous canvas for dining, entertainment and swimming for all to enjoy. We took advantage of the San Diego Horse Riding Center just across the path to include additional fun for everyone. We plan to return to see what this amazing property has to offer in the winter....

This property is absolutely amazing! We went with a group of friends (mostly couples) for a birthday celebration, and for everyone to spend one last weekend together before a number of the couples moved away. We all had a spectacular time! The weather was perfect (end of July), the house was everything you could ask for, the pool was gorgeous...the entire weekend was magical. Great for those who like to cook and hang out poolside, play games, be surrounded by beauty, and simply be comfortable and relaxed. Marti and Terri were so helpful and kind. And the town of Julian was adorable (not to mention the delicious pies!). I highly recommend this place for families and/or groups of couples. Oh...and the dogs had a ton of fun too! I would love to come back sometime and explore more of the local offerings: trails, fishing, wild life viewing, horseback riding, etc.

Owner response: Thank you for taking the time to post a review and a glowing one at that! It is a true testament to Julian and our property, Sacred Mountain Retreat, that the magic found it’s way into your hearts and the time you spent relaxing there. It made us smile that between enjoying time with your group of friends, the dogs had a lot of fun as well! We welcome you back in the future to enjoy our home again so that you can indulge in all of the other wonderful things that Julian has to offer. The best to you all!

We stayed at this spectacular property in Julian a couple of weeks ago in mid-July 2012. We were a group of adults, kids and a dog. To say that we had a relaxing, wonderful, serene, fun, magical, awesome experience would be a true understatement. Upon walking onto the property, the fast speed of the lives we lead came to an abrupt halt. The views, the birds, bunny rabbits, squirrels, wild turkeys and deer all made personal appearances and along with the beauty of this property and the view of Vulcan Mountain, we all breathed in and let out a deep sigh of pure awe. We actually sighed every day, many times throughout the day without even knowing it because we were so happy and at peace. We walked slowly, swam, barbecued and star-gazed (the stars are so plentiful that the sky is often milky white in areas and when lying on the deck, it is as if they are all within reach of your fingertips. We also saw a handful os shooting stars that you can rest assured we all wished upon). We read, lounged, laughed, talked, shared meals, and let the day to day "to do's" of our lives be packed away into a little box in the back of our minds. We had fun dinners, beautiful bottles of wine and enjoyed the songs of the local birds in the trees. The kids hiked, explored, swam, saw Mother Nature at her best and got right back to being what a kid is all about. The weather was perfect...sunny and hot with plenty of areas that welcomed us with shade. The three buildings/houses on the property are stunning, all allowing us privacy when we wished for it. There is everything you could wish for offered at this property and more. An idilic place to get away from it all and have some quality time.

The best getaway I've had. From the moment we arrived and passed through the gates the whole experience was memorable. The owner has gone to considerable lengths to ensure that everything you might need is there at your fingertips, from an amazingly well stocked kitchen to toys and games for the pool. The decor is warm and inviting. Outside the landscaping is so cleverly done that you don't notice where man and nature merge. There are lounging areas on every level and little nooks and crannies that the children loved exploring. I have great difficulty falling asleep in a strange bed, but not here. My bed was so comfortable I only read about half a page of my book. The natural assets of the property are awe inspiring, from the spectacular views of the mountains across the valley to the wildlife that seemed totally unperturbed by our visit. The sky at night has to be experienced. The stars seem so close that you could almost touch them and yet there are so many it reminds you how small you are in the grand scheme of things. We are three generations and we all enjoyed every moment we spent here. We explored, we swam and lazed by the pool. The children performed shows and concerts for us, at the bower, after dinner. We were undisturbed and had time to play with the children, to appreciate each other and our surroundings. This was so much more than I expected when my daughter first suggested it to me. I thank her and hope we can do it again. Sacred Mountain Retreat is so aptly named, it's a wonderful place to relax, recharge and reconnect. I would recommend highly.

We took a much needed get away and the second we arrived we couldn't stop smiling! We pulled in the long driveway not knowing what to expect and our first view (beside the main house) was a beautiful deer hopping through the grass saying hello, which was so exciting for my kids (and myself)! That was just the beginning of a few amazing days. There is every accommodation you could possibly need, you want for nothing in this place! Direct tv in each room if you even have time to turn it on, a fully stocked kitchen, wifi, etc. The pool was amazing and tranquil and fully stocked with adult and children's toys. The grounds were absolutely fantastic, something new to investigate at every turn. The bunnies made everyone laugh, there were wild turkeys in the distance, horses walking by. The drive to town is extremely close but honestly unless you want a pie there is no need :-) At night the view from the amazing deck at the old barn was something that quite can't be explained until you see it. If only there was a telescope...... I don't think there was a star that couldn't be seen. I would recommend this sacred mountain to absolutely anyone. Can't wait to go back! And when we were leaving, that same beautiful deer appeared to wish us safe travels. Absolutely majestic,

I recently stayed at this incredible home with friends and family. The youngsters immediately forgot how to bicker & became entranced with the bunnies eating freely on the lawn. The majestic scenery is breath-taking and reminds you to slow down and enjoy. We were greeted by a deer on the driveway and that same deer was there to say goodbye when we left. A flock of while turkey roamed down by the Old Rustic Barn while amazing red headed woodpeckers tapped away in the trees. The buildings were decorated with quality in mind but still so comfortable and rustic. We sat at night on the deck, after a sunset barbecue & watched the shooting stars, too many to count. This is truly a piece of heaven on earth and I can't thank the owners enough for sharing such a place.

We are a family of 5, 3 young children, and additional adult friends. Amongst us all as a group, we had weary people, adventure-seeking people, cooks, music lovers, swimmers and non-swimmers - a very varied group. This property gave everyone, something. It is a modern-day haven of tranquility and a beautiful one at that. It is both luxurious and comfortable, accessible but with space for everyone. The warm and lovely owner of the property greeted us and made us feel immediately at home, and handed over her house and its' contents with a massive amount of graciousness and kindness. The house has everything you could think of and need. It has been thought through carefully and with a great deal of love and attention, and we found our hectic lives slowing down almost immediately - just what a vacation is about in theory! The 3 separate 'houses' on the property gave everyone privacy but there are also some amazingly beautiful areas for everyone to come together. We can not recommend this property enough for all varieties of people and groups. It is indeed a retreat, but a very social one and one that many of the group said they would like to return to if it were available. A rare gem.

Dear Sacred Mountain, Thank you for opening up your glorious haven to us. This has been hands down the best experience of our lives! You couldn't be any kinder, we could feel the love in every detail of this place. From the moment we arrived to the time our last bag was packed, it felt like home, and an immediate sense of calm and serenity overcame us. Every detail was explicit in making the guest feel pampered. While your photos are beautiful they cant begin to convey how it feels to put your feet on the property. You have taken us back to a different time and place. A peaceful, connected time and place. We hope to return every year! Each day was rich in so many ways and as we learned more about Julian the more we understood why you chose it. From Rose and the San Diego Horse Riding Center right across the way to the old town charm (including the apple pie) every moment felt like a gift. We are filled with memories of our outdoor meals under the pergola and nights we spent on the deck under the stars... each created moments we will cherish for years to come. We highly recommend this retreat for all ages. We have been recalling story after story of our time at sacred mountain, not a week goes by that a memory from our time at your oasis bubbles up. Thank you for creating such a magical place and sharing it with us. Christopher & Joy

This place holds near and dear to my heart as this retreat was where my husband asked me to marry him:) There isn't a better place in the world that he could have chosen to propose! If you are looking for an absolute PERFECT getaway for a couple or a big group, look no further! This place is ABSOLUTELY SPECTACULAR! Words cannot express the magical feeling you encounter from the first moment you arrive. The retreat is beautiful, romantic, soulful, charming and ultimately cozy. The beauty is endless and the views are surreal. You feel so far away from the "business of life" and it's impossible to not feel inner peace after a stay here. The owner is an absolute gem and provides EXCELLENT customer care. I just cannot say enough about this heavenly place!
