Round Pond Cottage is a special place. Nestled in a pine and beech forest, it sits on a 10 acre private kettle pond. The recently renovated house was designed with comfort, style and convenience in mind. Enjoy nature in the surrounding conservation land or from your own large deck. Plymouth is perfectly situated between Boston and Cape Cod making the cottage a good base for sightseeing day trips.
The house was designed for entertaining and relaxation. The downstairs is open and welcoming, with a fabulous kitchen. Vacations are not necessarily for cooking, but if you don’t get a chance to cook regularly, you might find this a treat. We have two ovens, one convection. There is a large main sink and a prep sink to keep your helpers out of the way. There’s lots of counter space including a 3x8 island. It’s fully outfitted with everything you might need to cook a great meal. It's annoying when cooking and traveling to buy spices or staples and use only a teaspoon full. The pantry contains spices, herbs, and some staples available for our guest's use. Bon Appetit!
If you would rather spend your vacation time out of doors, this is the place for you. We are surrounded by conservation land. Animals and birds abound. Enjoy the humming birds while sitting on the deck overlooking the pond. You might spot a raccoon sleeping in the big pine nearby, and if you’re really lucky you could see the bald eagles soaring over the pond or the Great Blue Heron stalking fish. The pond is private which means that there are no motorized vehicles to disturb your peace – you might hear a bagpipe or fiddle from Pinewoods dance and music camp across the water and the bull frogs set up a lively chorus in June. Enjoy walks on wooded trails or circumnavigate Halfway Pond which boasts a virgin forested island in the middle. If you want a bigger body of water for kayaking, the public boat ramp on Long Pond is just a short hop down the road. Miles Standish State Park is nearby.
All of the historic attractions of Plymouth are 15 minutes away. The ferries to Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard leave from Hyannis, about 30 minutes down the road. The ferry to Provincetown leaves from Plymouth Harbor. You can get your fill of Pilgrims and then head back to the woodsy solitude of Round Pond and take dip in the lovely soft water.
Once you’ve had enough of solitude, head for Boston, only 40 miles away. The house is perfectly situated between Boston and Cape Cod - you'll never run out of things to do.

About the owner: Frank and Margaret have renovated 4 houses together. Although this may be our last, it's definitely our favorite. Our other houses were antiques so we felt we had to save all the details that make old houses so special. This house was built in 1960 and had been abused over the years so we had no compunction about gutting and starting from scratch. Our goal was to make it easy to care for and comfortable for entertaining. Margaret wanted two ovens and two sinks and she got them! The counters go forever and she got a window over the sink. It's the perfect kitchen for preparing communal meals. Since the house was built in the 60s, we furnished it in a comfortable modified mid-century style.
Why the Owner Chose Ponds of Plymouth: We have been coming to this area for many years, first as campers and workers at Pinewoods and then as guests of a local family. It's an easy drive from the city which makes the bucolic atmosphere a surprise and a delight.
The Unique Benefits at this Cottage: Round Pond is the perfect place for relaxing. We enjoy sitting on the deck at all hours of the day watching the birds and listening to the crickets. Regardless of the time of year, there is something interesting happening around the pond. Last year we saw a fox loping across the ice and just last month Frank saw two bald eagles cruising above. When we aren't sitting, cooking or eating, we walk the unspoiled trails of the Wildlands Trust which has many acres accessible from the house. Of course there is swimming and sunning on the raft. For a break from all this solitude, we head into Plymouth were we have found some wonderful restaurants. There are concerts, farmers' markets, ocean beaches, festivals and many other local attractions to keep us busy.
