Oceanfront Charmer: Our Surf - Your Lullaby
- Minimum stay:N/A

- Wheel chair accessible:No
Hale Hau`oli (Happy Home in Hawaiian), is where your master bedroom and living room are both as close as it is possible to get to the ocean without being sprayed by surf -- a rare find on Maui.
Awake to the sound of surf slapping on the shore reef and stars filling the tropical sky above palm trees swaying in the trade winds. On romantic full moon nights the entire Ma`alaea Bay shimmers silver, highlighted by white-tipped waves and bobbing sea turtle heads. No traffic sounds! Only birdsong and a panorama painted in vibrant golds and reds, luring you out of bed to capture the sun rise over the ancient volcano Haleakala (House of the Sun).
Fix yourself a freshly ground cup of Kona coffee or a nice cup of tea, and a plate of local papaya, mango and bananas on the lanai, with the Pacific Ocean just 60 feet away, so close to the water you can count turtles from the lanai, or just kick back and watch the whales. Why settle for less when you’ve come all this way to experience paradise?
Our luxurious two bedroom, two bath Condo is situated on the top floor of a four-story building in Ma`alaea, on quiet Hau`oli Street, which dead ends into a beach that is a secret to all but local residents. (Beware ground-floor condos in Kihei and Lahaina as they are susceptible to burglaries.)
Our master bathroom has been totally remodelled and has handmade Hawaiian petroglyph tiles with half inch framless glass enclosure. The other bathroom also remodelled, has a pebble floor and a walk-in shower also with half inch framless glass enclosure. The maple kitchen is generously appointed with all appliances, water filters, ceramic sink and a microwave/convection oven.
The floors are soft-on-your-feet maple pergo and tile, with colorful walls and Hawaiian décor. With central air conditioning, you will be comfy no matter what time of year you come. Two elevators guarantee you easy access, and you’ll have a safe reserved parking spot in our off-street parking lot.
Ma`alaea Kai is one of the best buildings on the block, the coolest and the quietest. We have the largest swimming pool, oceanside, surrounded by expansive lawns planted in putting-green grass. Lush blooming hibiscus, bougainvillea and plumeria fill the air with tropical smells underneath coconut palms. Lounge chairs offer a day off to read or work on your tan. Two gas grills and one charcoal grille, cleaned daily by the staff, are placed at the ocean’s edge with tables and chairs. Our resident manager keeps everything ship shape, and lights the shore tiki lights every weekend.
A quick stroll in one direction brings you to the charming Ma`alaea Harbor where fishing and snorkeling boats take off for the day’s runs; or to Haycraft Beach Park where you can either jump into the ocean for a morning dip or walk/run/beachcomb the six miles of secluded sand to Kihei’s Sugar Beach. No crowds here since access to the beach is protected from the road by the bird-filled ponds of Kealia Wildlife Refuge.
Living in centrally located Ma`alaea puts you in walking distance of the Ocean Center Aquarium, the Pacific Whale Foundation, a shopping center and four fabulous oceanfront restaurants a mini-golf and climbing area, a gas station and convenience shops. Beaches for snorkeling, swimming and surfing are all close by, as are 19 famed golf courses. Twenty minutes to the west is the old whaling village of Lahaina, with its magnificent Banyon Tree and shopping galleries. Ten minutes east is the long village of Kihei and a bit further the ritzy resorts of Wailea. You couldn't be in a better place to explore all Maui has to offer.
As we say here: a hui hou, or see you soon! Aloha.

We arrived on March 30, 2013 for 9 nights. The condo was very clean and nicely decorated. The bed in the master bedroom was very comfortable and we enjoyed listening to the surf as we were awakening each morning. We especially enjoyed the bathrooms with the beautiful walk in showers with petroglyphs. I loved sitting on the lanai with my morning coffee! We used the grills near the waters edge several nights. It was fun to socialize with other condo residents while waiting our turn for the grill. The location was very central perfect for exploring Maui. We drove all over the island! We especially enjoyed the restaurant nearby called Beach Bums! They have a Happy Hour every night with live music. We tried their barbecued ribs on rib night and found that even a 1/2 rack was plenty for 2 people with some leftover for the next night. Overall, it was a great stay and we would love to return! Thank you Mac and Anne for a wonderful stay in your condo! Aloha! My husband and I rented Anne and Mac's condo from June 29 to July10. We were meeting our daughter who was coming home from an expedition that explored the tsunami debris from Japan and plastic polution in the North Pacific Gyre. We were so amazed by the lovely home, the view and how wonderful Anne and Mac were to us. From the minute we arrived, we were in love with the spot. The condo is situated just right. Open the front door and back slider to the lanai and you have an amazing breeze that keeps you cool, even in the summer ! The view is the most spectacular one in all of Maui. Beautiful ocean views, cool grass and palms greeted us every morning. It was like waking in a dream. Every ammenity was there, including cloth grocery bags, since Maui has banned plastic bags(we love that). We cooked in the beautiful kitchen and ate on the lanai. Both bedrooms and baths are wonderful. The baths have the greatest showers and the tile is gorgeous. The Maui Ocean Center is a block away. Restaurants, shops, sporting and sightseeing boats are a short walk away. It is the perfect place to explore all of Maui. We needed to extend our stay due to the delay of our daughter's expedition. Anne was most gracious and helped us out. We are forever grateful. The only downside of our stay is that our daughter arrived so late, that she was only able to enjoy the condo for 2 days! We have promised her a return trip. Thanks again to the best hosts in all of Maui.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

WOW! It's difficult to say what we liked best when everything was perfect! Being greeted by our welcome basket of goodies from Mac & Anne was such a treat. We loved, booggie boarding, snorkeling. zip lines and just scenic drives. The location for access to everything we wanted to do couldn't have been better. When your pooped at the end of the day and it's dinner time.....just stroll down to Beach Bums and pull up a chair. The spirit of Aloha (and liquid spirits)flow copiously! Be prepaired to "waddle" home the food is awesome. My personal favorite? Breakfast on the lanaii as the sun comes up....there really just aren't words for it. It must be experienced. Much Mahalo Mac and Anne for sharing your little piece of paradiseRecommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

The Mrs. and I were extremely fortunate to stay in Anne and Mac’s beautifully designed, with Hawaiian décor everywhere, 2 bed/2 bath condo for a week. The layout is ideal as each bathroom is accessed off the bedroom, creating 2 suites that provide privacy from the other (fortunately, as I was on semi-decent behavior, the Mrs. did not send me packing to the other bedroom, but it was clear there would be a lot of privacy). The unit has been remodeled throughout. Both showers are spacious with multiple shower heads, including a waterfall head (who needs a Hana waterfall when one awaits you indoors in Maalaea?). The lanai is sited so it is very private, and affords wonderful views of the ocean and Haleakala. While there is a/c, the ceiling fans were plenty adequate to keep the unit cool. On the top, 4th floor, the unit is conveniently located near an elevator, laundry room (an extremely reasonable – if only the same could be said for Hawaii gas – $1.25 per wash and $1.00 per dry) and garbage chute, while being far enough away not to be heard when used. For those who prefer some “wildlife,” the condo’s resident “mascot” – a squawking bird – will air his/her lungs out once in a while (but, as a good tenant, adheres to the condo’s “quiet hours” – “Say goodnight, Gracie”). Being on the 4th floor allowed us to leave the sliding doors to the lanai (there is a screen door) open to fall asleep to the sound of waves. Maalaea’s central location was ideal. Close to the airport (the advantage of which cannot be underestimated for those who tend to be late for flights such as <ahem> moi) and Kailua’s Costco, Walmart and Kmart, and easy drives to Lahaina and Kihei (Times Supermarket and Safeway) – stock up stores for condo living. Minimal traffic in the area. Easy walk to the Maui Ocean Center and the Maalaea Harbor and Shops. Anne is a delight to correspond with, and a major reason we enjoyed our visit so much. Since one will often deal with the owner when renting a vacation condo, why not make sure you are dealing with the nicest person possible? Anne has a wonderful sense of humor and responded to our inquiries very quickly. Anne mailed our refunded security deposit check within 24 hours – meaning you may receive it faster than checked-in luggage. Our foremost tip on a great Maui vacation: arrange the timing of your trip around Anne and Mac’s condo availability! Our sincerest thanks to Anne and Mac! May they continue to share their lovely condo!?Recommended for: Sightseeing, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

We had a wonderful time! Anne and Mac are a very thoughtful couple and they make every effort to ensure that their guest start their stay at their condo off with just a little taste of the excitement that lies ahead in Maui. They thought of everything! We were so surprised to see the welcoming/congrats gift basket and card for our 17 year old granddaughter that just graduated from high school. It was simply delightful and filled with chocolates, gummy bear candy, coffee, plumeria soap, and the like – thank you Anne and Mac! The condo was complete with everything you needed for the pool and ocean, including beach towels, wet socks, boogie boards, noodles, as well as all the day to day necessities such as curling irons, hair dryers, movies and books - we really took advantage of reading “Maui for Dummies” :-) Mind you, this is the short list of all that you will find at Anne and Mac’s condo. The condo is located on the fourth floor, so we had no need for the A/C in the condo – we just left the windows open and took advantage of cool breezes, and the sound of the ocean surf. It was absolutely awesome! Parking is not an issue either – there is a reserved parking spot near the elevator, which comes in real handy when you carry up your groceries and/or ocean gear. Just a short walk from the condo, you will be able to shop and dine at Ma’alaea Harbor Village. One shop we especially liked was the Maui Gift Outlet. Here, there was a good selection of gifts and the prices were very affordable. We enjoyed dining at Beach Bums Bar and Grill - the food was delicious and the portions were ample enough to share with another family member or friend. You really don’t have to drive anywhere, unless you want to explore the island. There is a quiet beach near the condo – just a 5-10 minute walk away. The condo is centrally located, so you will find shopping for home cooked meals a stone’s throw away. We shopped at Safeway in Kihei, and Wal-Mart in Kahului. One note: bring the bags Anne and Mac have hanging behind the front door, as plastic bags have been banned in Maui. Anne and Mac were very helpful with providing us with things to do in Maui. They suggested several activities we might enjoy, one of which was the “Old Lahaina Luau”. We have been to a luau in Kauai and by far this is the best – book early before your trip!! Thank you Anne and Mac, your condo was perfect!! It got us away from the crowds/crowded beaches at the end of the day.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway.

We had a great vacation. The condo has everything that you need for a day at the beach, an impromptu picnic, a bbq or swim. Well appointed, fabulous view...we saw seals...lovely area to walk around and explore. The condo was a short drive to all the touristy areas but provided a serene place to end our day. Loved it !!Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

Does sitting on a lanai sipping coffee as gentle trade winds blow and the sun comes up over Haleakala make your "bucket list?" How about being lulled to sleep by the gentle lapping of ocean waves just yards from your room? Are you more practical and are looking for "location - location - location?" Well, Anne and Mac's place is for you! It has all the comforts of home and is just minutes from most places on Maui. And if it's unwinding that you're after, not much can top this! We had a WONDERFUL time and it was really hard to head to the airport!Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway.

Thank you so much for letting us rent your condo for a week! From the condo it is only a short drive to Lahaina, Kihei, and the airport (and a very short walk to Beach Bums - loved their happy hour!!!) We loved watching the sun rise over Haleakala every morning and watching the whales in the bay from the lanai. The morning that we had to fly home, I got to see a whale slap his tail at least 10 times in a row. I would definitely recommend your condo to others and look forward to coming back sometime soon!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, romantic getaway.

This was a condo with lots of personal touches that made you feel right at home and a part of the Maui experience. The complex has a great pool, bar B Q's are kept clean and the grounds are immaculate. Four of us shared the condo and found it was cozy yet afforded comfort and privacy. Having ensuite bathrooms off each bedroom was great. The kitchen was well equipped and we enjoyed many meals on the lanai. Maalaea Bay area is very quiet but is centrally located so it is an easy drive to Kehei or Lahaina for shopping and dinning.Just walk down the street to Haycraft Park which is one of the nicest swimming beaches we found. The Maui Ocean Centre is a great place to visit and there is a minature golf course close by for family fun. Weather was good and we had a wonderful time. The owners were very accommodating and helped to make our stay here very special.Recommended for: Age 55+.
