We spent a week with two of our children and their children - 14 in all. Every one of us LOVED the house! The remodeling is,beautiful, a tasteful blend of history and modern conveniences. We used the two large porches continually -a place for the kids to eat (when four of them weren't up in the captain's overlook) - or for all of to read, talk on the swings, or just look at the ocean. Loved the little touches - the hose to clean off our feet on the main floor porch (besides two very clean showers on the ground level); baskets or bookcases with all kinds of books to read; a tv in nearly every bedroom; and the kids loved having their own second floor all to themselves. The kitchen was well-stocked, with plenty of room for many of us to gather in. It was a quick walk to a very lovely beach, which was never really crowded whatever time we came. We've rented beach houses at the Outer Banks for many years, and this is by far our favorite!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.

Having never been to the Kitty Hawk area, I liked what I saw in the pictures online, so we (6 adults and 1 child) selected the Life Saving Station. When we saw it in person, we were simply amazed! The home is more than comfortable, it is beautiful, charming and historically significant. The views are great, even from the family room on the first floor. We comfortably could have fit a few more families in the home with us! It was very clean and had everything we needed. Because of the flooding in the area, I was so thankful we had chosen the Life Saving Station, as we could tell that many of the other homes in the area had been damaged, but were still being rented out. We saw no damage to the Life Saving Station. We did have a pane of glass come loose in one window from strong winds, but the owners arranged to have it was fixed immediately. We enjoyed visiting many of the local attractions, such as light houses, parks, restaurants (Owen's was my favorite), and premium outlets. The only complaint is that we had to leave! :) Everyone had a great time (and that is rare!). We simply cannot wait to come back! Thank you for the great experience!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

This house is AWESOME! We had such a great week staying here for our Spring Break! The Captain's Watch was such a great place to hang out and enjoy the wonderful views, as well as the views from the decks and den! The location of this home is perfect. Walk right across the street to the beach! Not to mention one of our favorites "JOHN'S" for a shake is within walking distance!!!! You have done such a wonderful job of preserving the history of this home and with renovations and decorating, I have to say this has been the BEST place we have stayed in all the years we have been going to Nags Head! Hopefully we can return for another awesome week here! Thank you for sharing your AWESOME beach house with us!!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

Our family (7 folks ranging from age 13 to 74) just spent a great week at the lifesaving station and would highly recommend it for any family that appreciate a wonderful historical place right across from the beach, ready access to Kitty Hawk and a house that has been updated without losing any of the great charm of the old station. The kitchen was well equipped and didn't lack any tools to feed ourselves well for the week. The second floor game room also had a handy beer and wine fridge. The rooms were comfortable and it has a modern heating and cooling system as well as a full size washer and dyer. Lots of bathrooms and with 7 folks never ran out of hot water. The views from the second floor and the widows walk on the third floor were great and you have a wonderful view to watch the porpoises roam up and down the beach. Don't forget the back porch if it;s windy. Lots of close place to eat and enjoy, the Black Pelican was nice and highly recommend the Trio wine bar. The beach is great here and the walk south to the fishing pier and back is an enjoyable 3 miles of searching for shells and chatting. We'll be back.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children.

My wife and I stayed at the Historic Kitty Hawk Lifesaving Station after the owners had completed some renovations in May 2012. The property is very nice, the only downside is that it was very hard to get in contact with the owners. I believe I sent three e-mails and called twice before I initially got in touch with them, and then it took a lot of time to hear back in subsequent e-mails to finalize our reservation. The owners are nice, just unresponsive. We also left a laptop power adapter at the property and they told us that they would send it to us but after several months we never got it and they have not responded to any e-mails since then. Again, the property is beautiful, we enjoyed our stay, and the owners are nice, it is just a real challenge to get in touch with them and they didn't follow through with sending us the adapter that we left behind as they promised.Owner response: Very disappointed and very surprised to see this review. The guest wrote during renovations to see about taking a short vacation for his honeymoon. I just reviewed all correspondence with the guest and we were in regular communication. I only had glowing responses from him about his stay, never any complaints, so this is a complete surprise. We worked very hard with him to make sure the house was available as we were finishing renovations and wanted to make sure the home would be available. As far as the laptop cord, we are not responsible for items left at the house. However, we do try and return items when we can. As a courtesy, I had housekeeping look for the power cord. They found it and I let the guest know. I also let the guest know that I mailed it July 4th week...which was the soonest we were down at the house again. And, I mailed it at my own expense. To my knowledge it had arrived, as I never heard another word about it until I received an e-mail on November 25, 2012, stating he had not received it. I responded that day, stating that I had mailed it July 4th week and no longer had the tracking info because of the time that had passed. They were also e-mailed the week of the 4th and I let them know I was mailing it. This review saddens me because we went above and beyond to ready the house so the guest could stay for his honeymoon and out of our way on our vacation to return an item they had left at the cottage.

One of the best vacations we ever had! After years of traveling and living all over the world, who knew paradise was only a couple hours away! The photos do not do justice to this wonderful property, the owners have thought of everything you need, and could not be on a better stretch of beach! Everything is close by if you want to go to the movies dinner, shopping etc, but once you check in you won't want to leave, we are already planning our return trip for next year! I would highly recommend this property reserve early as I am sure it will fill up quickly!Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

We enjoyed our long weekend at Lifesaving Station #7. I fell in love with the place as soon as we arrived. The owners have done a wonderful job updating the house with modern conveniences while keeping the old character of the home. There are photos of the building when it was a lifesaving station on the walls and books that include some photos and history of the place. There was plenty of room for our group. My 10 year old son enjoyed the foosball table and the captain's watch. I enjoyed the large deck and porch swing. The home is just across the street from the beach and it has a great view of the ocean and sunrise. The home has a code lock which was easy to use and we did not have to worry about how we would get a key from the owners. The Black Pelican Restaurant is just down the street 1/4 of a mile. This is one of my favorites. We tried Hurricane Moe's (I think that is the name) across from the Black Pelican for the first time. We enjoyed some yummy adult drinks at the bar while waiting for our carry out. The staff was friendly and the food was good. This home would not be good for someone who does not do well with stairs. We hope to return to Lifesaving station #7 again.Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with teenagers, families with young children.

What a perfect house in a perfect location! The house was fantastic...recently renovated and even better than the pictures on the website. The location directly across the street from the beach was wonderful. We spent our days on the beach playing, fishing, swimming, watching dolphins... There was more than enough room for 2 families with children, and many memories were made. The homeowner was extremely friendly and helpful throughout the rental process. I hope we get to go back again sometime!Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children.

The Kitty Hawk Life Saving Station exceeded all of our expectations. We love that the structure has over 100 years of history and so many modern conveniences. The house comfortably accommodated 5 couples and 3 toddlers (4 generations). Our boys loved the outdoor shower and when it was hot played for houses in the sand underneath the house. They enjoyed many picnics on the large picnic table and were excited to sleep in the bunk room. The close proximity to the beach was literally a lifesaver...as we have little ones we are potty training. We made a lot of memories. Thank you for opening your home to us! We can't wait to come back next year.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1
