Lovely place for a honeymoon!

We stayed at the Chestnut Log Cabin for a quick honeymoon after our wedding last weekend. It was EXACTLY what we needed! We enjoyed relaxing in the hot tub, taking some marathon naps in the cozy bed and lots of downtime drinking coffee and sitting in rocking chairs on the front porch. The fire pit in the backyard is awesome, and the view of the mountains is gorgeous. One of my favorite things about our stay at the cabin was its convenient location. We parked our car in the driveway and didn't use it for three days. We walked into downtown Hot Springs for breakfast, sat on a bench and watched all the AT through-hikers passing by, had a fancy meal at the nearby Mountain Magnolia Inn, and took a hike up the Lover's Leap Trail (very steep but worth the views!). It was lovely to be so close to all the action, but feel very secluded and private at the same time. The amenities were delightful; plenty of towels and cooking items and clean sheets, etc. It is a historic building, so there are some creaks and quirks but we felt like that was part of the charm, much preferable to a sterile hotel room with no personality. It is a cozy, rustic little cottage and felt just the right size for us. I'm sure if you were traveling with kids they would love the bunk beds in the second bedroom. We kept saying how we wished we could live there! We also really enjoyed the little touches that made us feel at home: the owners left a little basket of popcorn and treats for us, and we enjoyed snuggling on the couch, eating popcorn and watching movies (Deliverance + The Neverending Story double feature?! So fun). Melanie, was super friendly and attentive, and easy to reach by cell phone. She made us feel so welcome and even came by to say hello and congratulate us in person. We would recommend the Chestnut Log Cabin to anyone wishing for a relaxing, rustic getaway in the beautiful WNC mountains. We will surely be back in the future!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

The front porch is very inviting and the cabin is a beautifl antique arts and crafts log cabin. The kitchen is fully equipped so we were able to cook breakfast every morning. There was a fire pit outside that we cooked marshmallows on. There is a nice hot tub outside that is perfect for sipping wine in. There is a cozy sitting room in the back of the house to sit and read and chat. We were able to walk to town and get a bite to eat at the Cafe and wander around and look at the shops. There are natural hot springs mineral baths within walking distance that we enjoyed as well. We noticed it is a close walk to all the local pubs. I would definitely recommend this cabin to friends and family. The owner was very helpful in recommendations.Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: We are delighted you found The Chestnut Log Cabin as majical as we did. This was our second home before moving permanently to Hot Springs and we are glad to share this property. We look forward to your return.

I was looking for a place in a small town in the mountains for the fall leaf season and Hot Springs was perfect as was Chestnut Log Cabin. This was a great a romantic place with no reason to leave the cabin. We enjoyed the hot tub and outdoor fire. The Iron Horse was a great place to eat and had live music. We enjoyed the Hot Springs Spa. We have told our friends about this cabin and will come back ever chance we can.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

We booked this place for a nice time and were not disappointed. The furnishings were in style with the house and looked like my grandmothers house and it felt so cozy. We walked around town as well as the Appalachian Trail. We needed more towels and the owners were quick to respond and answered any questions we had. What a wonderful town and cabin we will be staying here again.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children.

This was our second visit to The Chestnut Log Cabin for a family vacation and it felt like home! The kitchen was set up for all our cooking needs so we could either cook inside or out on the grill and never leave the property. We have three teenagers and we felt very safe in letting them walk out the door and to town only a few minutes away while my husband & I relaxed in the hot tub or on the front porch-we were all happy! Many a s'more was cooked on the outdoor campfire. The owners were very helpful with information about Hot Springs and nearby hikes we could take. The cabin was clean and we had everything we needed. The kids enjoyed the dish TV and movies while, once again, my husband & I enjoyed the hot tub. We would recommend this property to anyone and come back again any chance we can.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: So glad your family had the vacation you were expecting. Sounds like you made the most of all the features of Chestnut Log Cabin. Please come again.

I rented the cabin in Aug for 3 days. It was filthy dirty, dusty, cobwebs and no AC. The mold smell was overpowering when you walked in. The bathroom was moldy and had toothpaste on the tile and mold in the shower. There were no working recepticles in the bathroom. The light above the sink did not work. The kitchen walls next to the table were covered with dust and mold, some of the dishes were soiled. All of the ceiling fans were covered with dust, soiled rags left in the refridgerator. Windows sills, baseboards and wood floors were dust covered and you could see where we walked when the sun shined on them.Called her 2-3 times and she brought air freshner and dehumidifier. I would not recommend this to anyone, especially anyone with breathing problems. Also the window blinds were dusty and some of them were broke. Windows were hard to open and when we got them open they were dusty and dirty. I asked for a refund and she agreed and I have not heard from her since.Owner response: The Chestnut Log Cabin is an authentic 1922 Arts and Crafts home surrounded by the Pisgah National Forest and never has been advertised as having ac. By Jan 2013 we are slated to install a heat pump for a duel fuel heat system that will bring as a bonus central air for this property. Many guests have returned again and again to Chestnut Log Cabin over the past five years and commented on the clean, comfortable amenities and features offered which include an outdoor hot tub, large outdoor fire ring, full size kitchen and relaxing outdoor area. This cabin was a much loved second home for our family prior to moving to Hot Springs as full time residents. We live within one mile of the property, inspect behind housekeeping to insure a clean vacation home and make ourselves available to correct any reasonable needs that guests may have. Certainly features that are indigenous to the great outdoor mountain surroundings and antique log home are a personal preference and may not be for some. However, if you wish to go back in time and experience a true craftsman structure but also enjoy a modern day flat screen TV, satellite service/ DVD player, full size fully equipped kitchen and covered outdoor hot tub in a private back garden setting, the Chestnut Log Cabin is for you. As you can see from the property photos, meticulous attention to detail was taken to preserve the original plaster walls, original kitchen, original bathroom fixtures, restored wood floor throughout as well as the built in, typical arts and crafts bookcases. We have seen bath and kitchen fixtures restored but opted to keep the sinks and tub with their original finish. Think of Maggie Smith with all her untouched facial character features; appreciate her for marching through time almost the same amount of time as The Chestnut Log Cabin, and proud to show it! This property has accommodated many happy honeymooners, romantic anniversary couples, girls getaway, family holidays, business getaways and AT hikers all to return for another visit.

Chestnut Cabin and Hot Springs are a great combination for a peacefulm relaxing getaway. Sitting on the front porch every morining with my coffee watching day break over the mountains is heavenly! If you can drag yourself off that wonderful porch, it's just a short walk to town where you can enjoy the spa, play in the river, or just visit the shops. By walking down street, you can say you've hiked the AT! There is no better place to visit than Hot Springs and no better place to stay than Chestnut Log Cabin!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: Before moving to Hot Springs, The Chestnut Log Cabin was our second home and the front porch was my favorite spot as well. Rocking on that front porch must be one of the best spots for many guests because we replaced two of rocking chairs this spring!
