Sawyer farmhouse description

Fall is bursting in bright goldens and reds, and Harbour Country pours you another glass of Michigan wine! Stay at the beautiful and artfully decorated, fully modern, one hundred year old farmhouse...Four bedrooms, maximum ten guests. Beautiful Harbour Country spring colors, Notre Dame games, Greenbush Brewery, shopping, enjoying the great pleasures of nature and serenity...
Revel in the splendor of forests and soak up acres and acres of beautiful Michigan Harbor County's softly rolling hills! Ten minute drive to the Warren Dunes and Lake Michigan. Huge, gorgeous, Turn-of-the-Century Farmhouse surrounded by pond, gardens, nature, forests, a gigantic screened-in back porch--everything for a perfect vacation getaway! The Farm is just minutes in your car to the beach for sunset walks and hiking at Grand Mere woods that have miles of dunes and beaches... Peaceful and Gorgeous Spring and Summer. Oaks turn their full buds into bright green, flowers grace the landscape of lush gardens, the pond houses bullfrogs and dragonflies, the forests will erase all traffic and city hullaballoo in an instant.... Access to the Warren Dunes, wineries, public access beaches including New Buffalo beach, fantastic restaurants, and Red Arrow Highway antiquing! 13 incredible acres for Nature Lovers. Unwind, unplug, relax and recharge on 13 acres of extraordinary Michigan farm country. The Farm is a fully updated farmhouse complex with completely modern amenities. A hundred-year-old former winery, beautifully and artfully decorated. A magical and special place to us. There are trails to walk, wonderful gardens overflowing with flowers, trees everywhere you turn, waves and waves of birds, generous fields filling stretches of property, fish, heron, Aku Aku statues and sculpture. And the best feature? The wide expanse of backyard nature viewed from the comfort of a huge screened-in back porch! Birdwatching, gazing at the pond, enjoying a meal with friends...all from the comfort of your cushioned chair.
This is pure Michigan with woods and forest, farmland, rich in history and just minutes from Greenbush Brewery and the stretches of antique stores on Red Arrow. Some of the best restaurants in the state like Timothy's, Lusia's, and Guilistan's are just around the corner.
It's that time of year to be cozying up to the fire, lazing in the warm sun, catching up on your books and escaping from the hectic pace of everyday life...
Bike down the prime trail of Glendora Road, the famous trail of the Apple Century bike ride. Have a new brew at one of the many microbreweries where people look you in the eye and take their time getting to know you. Shop at the Sawyer Garden Center for the freshest farmstand picks. Have a hangar steak at Fitzgerald's in downtown Sawyer, or head over to Wheatberry's in Buchanan for barbeque and brews. Saunter down to New Buffalo to eat at Redamak's for burgers and Oink's for Moosetrack ice cream. Go antiquing on Red Arrow Highway. Farmer's Markets are honor system stands, birds reign over the land, and everything is a little bit slowed down. Bring your camera, bring your project. Walk in the woods, eat at Viola's cafe and see a movie at the beautiful Vickers Theatre in Three Oaks or live music at The Acorn Theatre. Explore every inch of nature in twelve acres of forests and gardens. Music. Cook for twelve hours. Laze around in front of the fireplace or dance in the snow, sprawl in the pond. Do crossword puzzles in bed all day. Stare at the fire in the firepit outside in the crisp night air, roasting marshmallows until 3am, playing guitar, and just being downright silly with no plan on waking up early. Figure out what it is like to just be a human.

Fall in Michigan is here so get your dates now! The reviews you read here will tell it all...

Listen to the treefrogs. Watch the stars. Go geo-caching at Fernwood...finish your book, write a book, have a drink at the Woverine Wintergarden. Do it all, do nothing.

              Owner info

              Year Purchased: 1985

About the owner: Howdy! As a native Chicagoan, The Farm has been an extraordinarily special place for me and my mathematician husband. We have traveled all over the globe together and have learned the art of making other travelers comfortable! I spent fifteen years working as a biofeedback therapist and have a huge passion for entertaining. One year I cooked over 100 pounds of brisket for our holiday party! In this new economy I now have the opportunity to live out my dream of acting full-time and tending to this amazing property. We are almost always seen digging in the gardens or walking the property with mugs of coffee in the morning! In Chicago you will find us at most every concert and theatre event there is...we love art, museums, and are curious about the beautiful universe we live in. We are very aware of making the most out of the time we have left on this earth and would love to show you the magic of this wonderful place.

              Why the Owner Chose Sawyer:
You have to see it for yourself to believe it. It is absolutely gorgeous, historic, and secluded. The location is so peaceful and beautiful without having the crowds of living right on the lake and not being so far from Chicago that the drive becomes overwhelming. I have spent longer trying to get through Chicago's rush hour traffic than it takes to get to the farm! The clincher was the perfect amount of time it does actually take to drive to the lake. Ten minutes! That was a huge perk. This part of the world struck us a perfect place to escape with the wonderfully friendly people and the sense of strong community. Not to mention the property is utterly stunning and who wouldn't want a farmhouse that is over a hundred years old?

The Unique Benefits at this Farmhouse:
The walks. Definitely. In the morning before our guests are awake we walk the property with our coffee and look at all the changes nature has given us. And the runs and bikes down Glendora keep us in shape! The guests: we love having people up to The Farm, it fills us with such joy to be able to share such a magical place with the people we love. The house comfortably accomodates everyone, and finding a peaceful or not-so-peaceful spot (depending on your whims) is not hard to find. The beach: we hop in the car and we are at the beach in ten minutes. We don't have to live with the beach crowds and beach restaurant goers--we can get back to our tranquil house where a few cars going by is unusual. And we love speaking to the local business owners. We have relationships where we end up talking for at least a half hour in each store we visit, it is just that kind of place. Where in Chicago does that happen?
