Light a fire on those chilly nights. Spend your days on the private sandy beach, 300 ft from your house. Leave your blanket to skip home for lunch or to refresh your drink, and return to the beach to explore the sand bar, or just float on a raft. No traffic or parking issues - just roll out of bed and hit the sand. Clear waters, a gentle sloping shore and low ripple tides are a safe combination for children.
In the evening enjoy your private deck with a barbecue, or go for a stroll and take in the fresh air. Walk a few steps to the canal and Snapper fish, or just watch the boats go by. Take a late night walk along the beach and star gaze - shooting stars are in abundance for the keen eye - while the kids search for frogs.
Enjoy the wonderful restaurants and outlet shops in the area. Visit the vineyards where you can bring a picnic and listen to live music. Explore Greenport, an old sea faring town, while the kids enjoy riding the carousel.
90 minutes from Manhattan, 45 minutes from Port Jefferson / Bridgeport ferry, 40 minutes from Orient / New London ferry.
The North Fork has so much to offer, from fresh farm stands to rolling vineyards and beautiful beaches. It is the nearest far-away place.
