Craftsbury Common house description
WE NOW OFFER WIRELESS INTERNET ACCESS!!
Our Craftsbury Home is located on 76 acres, in picturesque Craftsbury Commmon, Vermont. Craftsbury Common is a small town set in the emerald green, rolling hills of the North East Kingdom, surrounded by great hiking opportunities, lakes, rivers and is the home of the renowned Craftsbury Outdoor Center, famous for it's cross country ski trails and skulling camps. Just down the road in Albany you will find the Craftsbury Outdoor Camp at Hosmer Point.
It is under an hour's drive to four different ski resorts and spas, including Stowe, Smuggler's Notch, Burke and Jay Peak. Local lakes include the magnificent Lake Willoughby, Lake Memphremagog, Big Hosmer, Caspian Lake, Crystal Lake, The Green River Reservoir and Lake Eligo. Bring your shells, your kayaks, your rowboats, your wind-surfers and mountain bikes for summertime fun and your skis, snowshoes and snowmobiles in the wintertime.
If you prefer quiet, viewing wildlife, contemplation, organic food and homemade cheeses; perhaps an evening out enjoying a local concert at The Music Box or attending the Craftsbury Chamber Players or delighting at the Concerts on the Green; browsing our local wares (organic of course!) at the farmer's market in the summertime, thawing out in the jacuzzi jetted tub after a day of skiing, or imbibing in a cup of hot cider in front of the fireplace; sitting at the small game table in the living room for a lively game of Pictionary or Scrabble, our former home in Craftsbury can provide all of this for you.
Our warm, spacious and inviting home offers a unique hexagonal shape, filled with light from large windows facing south and west. The heart of the home is an 8 foot diameter rock chimney located in the center of the home, seated in the foundation and extending from the 14 ft ceilinged basement all the way up to the to upstairs bedrooms. It provides a fireplace in the sunken living room and a fireplace in the upstairs bath, which also includes a Jacuzzi jetted tub. There are also 3 bedrooms upstairs, two with double beds and the master bedroom has a king sized bed. Each bedroom has a small portable cot stored in the closet for additional sleepers. There is an additional bathroom with claw foot tub & shower downstairs, off of the foyer.
The kitchen and dining room are open. The kitchen is fully stocked with a stove, griddle, oven, refrigerator, microwave and dishwasher. There is a laundry room with a washer and dryer. All fine linens are provided for your sleeping pleasure.
There is parking for one car in the garage and there is ample parking in the driveway.
There is a TV in the master bedroom and in the living room, each with a DVD player for you to watch your favorite movies, whether you bring them with you or rent them at either of the Craftsbury Stores. The C-Village store provides gas for your car and both country stores have a wonderful deli for your country outings and groceries for your pantry.
Every season has it’s own special activities, it’s own sights and smells, it’s own types of laughter and wonder. Whether you need play time, rest time or healing time...
Magic awaits you…

This house is unreal in the winter time. It's surrounded by woods and more snow than you can imagine. It is so peaceful and quite to come back to after a day at Jay. And the fireplace is just what you need while watching a movie. I highly recommend this place!

This was our second stay at this beautiful house and we had an even better time than last year. My kids enjoyed the toys and instruments at the house and we had a blast sledding and snowshoeing without having to drive anywhere. We will back next year....our third year in a row!

Outstanding Home and Area.
Outstanding Home and Area.
We went with teenage children and had a truly fantastic time as a family. From the moment we walked in, till the time we left, we had a relaxing but fun time. The house was impecible, warm and inviting. Attention to every detail. We sat outside having our coffee looking at the mountains every morning. Waking up to the view of tree tops and mountains in each bedroom which was filled with light, started the day. Soaking the sore muscles from hiking and visiting the number of swimming holes that are throughout Vermont in the jaccuzi in the master bathroom was a nice benefit. We played soccer in the yard, card games, board games, went to Stowe, close to Montreal, you can do as much or as little as you want. Great location, beautiful home. We are coming back !!

Stayed here for a week while attending a writing workshop at a nearby college. The owner emailed me promptly upon booking the property and was extremely friendly and helpful in providing me with all the information I needed. I couldn’t have asked for a better place to stay for a writing retreat. The house is very private, yet close enough to town if you need groceries, coffee, gas, or want to visit the Saturday Farmers’ Market. The library and coffee shop in Craftsbury Common have WiFi, if you really need to have it. Hardwick, a 15-20 minute drive south, has a food co-op, restaurants, and a bookstore. There is no internet or cable TV, but given that I was here for a quiet getaway, that was just fine with me. It was nice to unplug for a while. My cellphone didn’t work either, but the house has a landline available for use, so that was helpful when I needed to make a call. The house is beautiful, rustic and charming, and looks like it was lovingly crafted for the family home that it once was. The views of the mountains from the master bedroom and bath are gorgeous. Exactly what I came to Vermont hoping to see. I loved being surrounded by trees, but also appreciated the landscaping—flowers and a mowed meadow/lawn (which I discovered had wild strawberries growing in it). The family room has a fireplace (which we obviously didn’t need in June) and large picture windows overlooking the garden. I spent a lot of time sitting on the couch, reading and enjoying the rain, the birds and the flowers. The kitchen is large and well-stocked with everything you could possibly need for cooking (utensils, dishes, pots, spices, etc.). There was also a lovely gift basket (with Vermont cheese, pancake mix, and Vermont maple syrup) and flowers to welcome us when we arrived. In short, this was a wonderful place to stay (spacious, clean, comfortable, quiet, homey) and I look forward to coming back again!

Just what we needed
Just what we needed
We stayed in this wonderful home just after New Year's to get away from it all and relax for a bit in picturesque Vermont. This was just what we needed. The first morning, we were greeted by a flock of wild turkeys walking around just outside the deck door. While it was generally a warm winter, this unique location allowed us to enjoy getting out in the snow (unlike many other places, there still was snow here.) We even tried our hands at nearby cross-country skiing at the world-class facility; a perfect bonus. The warm and unique home combined with the charming nearby towns proved to be just what we were looking for. This is truly a fantastic retreat for any season.

Year Purchased: 1999
About the owner: We bought this home in 1999, raised our family with much joy and love and now we are offering to share this very special place with you.
Why the Owner Chose Craftsbury Common:
We had been vacationing in Vermont since 1980. We came to visit family and to enjoy both the peace and activities that Vermont offered. When our children came along, we decided to move to Vermont to provide them with a tighter-knit community, and a healthier environment. Coming from a congested urban setting, we craved a simpler life, honing our expectations and enjoying nature with all of her seasonal faces.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
We loved to hike our 76 acres. The property line extends up to the top of the mountain. The views from our location always made me feel as if I were on top of the world. I am an early bird and there was always some deer in the lower meadow, not to mention the quail, grouse and turkeys. Snow shoeing from my back door in the winter was a joy and a pleasure and teaching our kids to cross country ski in the front yard was great fun. Watching the kids sledding in the open meadow while I peeked from the master bedroom always brought a smile to my face. Summertime was full with the many 'camping style' barbeques that we enjoyed on the open pit in the front yard. Smores, guitars, singing, playing frisbee, volleyball, badminton and croquet, adults and kids alike! Camping at the Green River Reservoir where we had to kayak out to our secluded waterfront campsite; swimming and enjoying the calls of the loons. Running out to Lake Eligo or Willoughby, to the public beach for a quick dip on a hot day. After all are in bed and down for the count, meditating in the master bedroom, while fire-flies winked at me from beyond the glass....The joys are endless!
