Bear Valley cabin description

This 1800 sq ft cabin in the heart of Bear Valley is a cozy retreat to relax and unwind in any season. The downstairs has an open living/dining floor plan, with windows and doors on 3 sides overlooking the deck and trees. Part of the deck is shaded by an overhang with a picnic table under it for outdoor lunching. the rest of it stays sunny throughout the day.

Also on the first floor is a bedroom with queen size bed, and a bathroom with tub/shower and a washer dryer.

Upstairs is a second bedroom with queen bed, a bathroom with shower, and a loft/mezzanine overlooking the living/dining area; it holds two single beds and there is room for 2 or 3 blow up mattresses.

The cabin sits on a 1/3 acre mostly level parcel with seasonal creek and with neighbor cabins on other parcels. Fremont Road is a quiet level road with little car and foot traffic, yet also within close (less than half mile light downslope) walking distance to the village restaurants, shopping and library (where you can rent movies and games as well as books).

              Location

Historic Bear Valley Village is located at 7,300 feet in California's Central Sierra, surrounded by numerous lakes and meadows, national forests and protected wilderness. Bear Valley offers many exciting recreational activities and events both summer and winter. Fall is a quieter time, and the foliage is lovely.

Spring through fall there is so much to do: hiking, biking, swimming, rock climbing, hunting, boating, tennis, fishing. It's a wonderful place for kids, and there are a variety of summer camps - archery, climbing, soccer, racing, adventure, and plain old summer camp. Bear Valley Lake with two beaches is 3 minutes away, Lake Alpine less than 10 minutes, the Stanislaus River 15 minutes, and a multitude of lakes and trails abound throughout the protected wilderness around Bear Valley.

Summer events at Bear Valley includes the Music Festival late July/early August, and activities such as golf, wine tasting, antiquing, spelunking and horseback riding are 30 minutes or less away.

Winter is of course a wonderland at Bear Valley: the village is intimate, cars stay parked in the large lots and you can ski, cross county ski, snowmobile, walk and snowshoe everywhere in the village. Buses do round trips to the mountain throughout the day; you can ski down to the bus stop, spend your day at the mountain, and ski home to the cabin. Winter holidays in Bear Valley are very special indeed!

              Owner info

              Year Purchased: 1972

About the owner: Our family lives in the Bay Area and has been vacationing at this cabin several times a year ever since my parents designed and built it in 1972. First my parents came with their 3 kids (and sometimes our grandparents) and then the 3 of us had our own kids and continued the tradition. Our kids are between 13 and 21 now and we all still love Bear Valley!

Why the Owner Chose Bear Valley:
My mom chose this particular lot to build on because of the seasonal creek running through it, the Big Rock that she eventually designed to be part of the deck, and because she could easily walk to the village center with the kids. With the help of an architect friend who had worked years with Frank Lloyd Wright, my parents designed the floor plans. My mother planted the quaking aspens in the front and all the meadow flowers and grasses in the back. She selected the rocks that my dad faced the fireplace with, and the tiles that he laid into the tables that are still in great shape today. A lot of love went into this cabin, and we are so pleased to offer it as a relaxing retreat to you!
