Boulder Cottage. Beautifully renovated & close to everything the city and mountain environs have to offer!
This circa 1900 cottage is located just four blocks from the heart of Boulder and the Pearl Street Mall. Located in the historic Mapleton Hill neighborhood, this 2 bedroom, 1 ½ story home is only 4 blocks from Mt Sanitas hiking trails, Boulder Creek biking & running paths, North Boulder Park and a few extra blocks from Alfalfa’s Market as well as the Ideal Market/ Community Plaza shopping center. All can be reached via bicycle or foot- and that doesn’t begin to cover all the restaurants, shops and other amenities nearby. You can rent a car, but don't really need one unless you intend to drive to the mountains or down to Denver for a larger city 'fix'. This can be your car- free get away!
Summertime fun is close by; including hiking, biking and running trails (Boulder County has over 400 miles of them!) and wintertime sports are only 45 minutes away for skiing or snowshoeing in the Indian Peaks Wilderness or at our local Eldora Ski Resort. Winter Park, Breckenridge, Copper & Vail are all within 2hrs. 15min of Boulder- depending on weather/ road conditions.
Yep, Boulder pretty much rocks if you’re an outdoor enthusiast or a foodie. We're home to many natural food companies as well as a burgeoning local food movement. The Boulder Farmer’s Market runs thru early November and picks up again in the spring.
The cottage:
• Fully renovated, custom kitchen with all dishware and appliances provided
• Recently renovated bathrooms, turn of the century décor updated with a modern Asian, eclectic mix.
• Wood floors downstairs, spacious eating areas and backyard garden (with fountain) that makes the cottage feel more European than turn- of- the- century Colorado.
• Two bedroom, one queen bed master and a standard size bed in the guest room. The sunroom can accommodate a futon or inflatable bed. There is a downstairs bathroom.

The home is wonderfully cozy, in a beautiful old neighborhood of Boulder, nuzzled near the foothills. I know Boulder very well, and can say this was the nicest place I've stayed for a vacation in Boulder, and one of the nicest I ever stayed in. The owner's decor and general outlay of the house interior was both beautiful and useful, with a lovely little yard in front, and a georgeous courtyard out back. We will stay there again soon.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with young children, sightseeing, adventure seekers, families with teenagers.

If you've ever been to Boulder then you know downtown is where you want to be. Pearl Street Mall, CU right up the hill and the famous Boulder foothills are all an easy dash from this cool little house tucked away on Mapleton Hill. The owner was a great guy and very accomodating. The house fit our family of four cozily, but may be better suited for families without little ones. The fenced- and treed-in back porch was a highlight as was the Sodastream soda maker. And aside from the owner's knowledge of Boulder, there were a slew of guidebooks to help out newcomers if necessary. If you want the Lucille's for breakfast, Sanitas by noon and Boulder Theater show at 8 experience, this is a great place to stay.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, tourists without a car, adventure seekers.

The owner was great about meeting us and telling us about the house. He made an effort to make sure we were comfortable and felt at home. The bathrooms and kitchen have all been remodeled and look great. It is a cozy house on a great street. It is also very close to Pearl Street and the University of Colorado in Boulder. I would highly recommend it!Recommended for: Age 55+, sightseeing, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, girls getaway.
Owner response: thanks Kimberly, It was great to meet you and your family and glad you enjoyed the house. I like being so close to everything myself. You are welcome anytime- great guests! cheers, Darvin

My sisters and I spent four nights in this very comfortable home. The owner gave us a personal tour of the home, recommended some favorite restaurants and even sketched out a quick map of some of the nearby sites. The home was very well appointed having nearly all we needed (a couple of larger pots and pans would be nice). Mapleton Hill is a nice area and is within walking distance to Pearl Street shops and restaurants. During our stay we enjoyed horseback riding in Estes Park, driving Trail Ridge Road in Rocky Mountain National Park, hiking some trails there, white water rafting in Fort Collins (both 1 1/2 hours drive or less from the home), tea at the Dushanbe Tea House, peaches from the farm market, and a tour of Celestial Seasonings. We only wished for more time to explore Boulder and Colorado!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, tourists without a car, age 55+, sightseeing, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, girls getaway.

I'd been in Boulder many times over the years, but had never spent any time in this lovely historic neighborhood close to Pearl Street. My extended family of 15 descended on Boulder for graduation in May. We were spread out all over town, but four of us stayed in this clean, well-maintained home. The owner has taken great care to make renters feel welcome. Beds are comfortable, the kitchen is spacious and well outfitted, and the sun room in back converts easily to a third bedroom. The family naturally congregated here, preparing meals, gravitating toward Pearl Street, and welcoming visitors who came by to offer congratulations. The house is a comfortable place to entertain, and the protected back yard is a quiet and peaceful place for people to head when things get crowded inside. The owner was great -- he's local, so he was available and responsive to questions. Highly recommended.Recommended for: Families with young children, families with teenagers, girls getaway.

We stayed very comfortably & happily in this great little house with our two teens on some of the hotter days this summer. The owner is a good communicator and very personable & accommodating. He took great care to meet us despite a delayed flight and show his well-loved & cared for home and functions - - high-end appliances and every amenity you might need - plus plenty you probably won't...! Fans, A/C and a whole-house fan kept the house very comfortable (although there were plenty of extra blankets on hand in case we'd gotten one of the Colorado cold nights.) The backyard patio with fountain is a haven of privacy and cool shade - likely perfectly cozy and sunny in winter. Easy access to the Sanitas trailhead for a little hike, and a pleasant walk to Lolitas or Pearl Street's West End for provisions (we did both.) As not just visitors, but former residents of Boulder, we're very familiar with the options & neighborhoods and selective about where we stay when returning to visit - we can definitely vouch for this cottage as a great choice!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, tourists without a car, families with young children, sightseeing, adventure seekers, families with teenagers.
Owner response: thanks Jennifer, It was great to have you and your family. I could tell you were all looking forward to being in Boulder again. Glad you loved the backyard. Its always a big hit, especially in the spring, summer and fall. Always happy to accommodate you should you be back in the future.

My husband and our 2 year-old toddler stayed here for 4 nights in late May. The house is absolutely charming, with modern yet artsy renovations in the bathrooms and kitchen. The kitchen is fully outfitted with all the right gadgets and tools. It's a small house, but was more than adequate for two adults and one child. We spent much of our time in the back garden enjoying the shade trees, flowers and fountain, and much of the rest of our time on the front porch swing enjoying the wonderful neighborhood. The location is great. We walked to Pearl Street, Ideal Market, and North Boulder Park many times. The owner is great, very accommodating (he even tracked down a portable crib for us to use during our stay) and has lots of interesting art and decor in the house as well as a fantastic book selection. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a cozy home-away-from-home with lots of personality in one of the best neighborhoods in Boulder.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with young children, adventure seekers.
Owner response: Thanks J, I'm glad you enjoyed the house. The shady backyard is definitely still one of my favorite parts- sort of an extra room given its proximity to the dining area and kitchen. I've spent whole afternoons back there reading a book or magazines. Come back again!

I had the chance to "test" this cottage for a whole month in the summertime. the master bedroom has aircon and a very spacious bed. the guess bedroom is smaller and gets quite hot during summer. The kitchen, which is my favorite area, is well equipped, nice fridge (huge for european standards). There is WholeFoods nearby and the shopping area of pearl st. is just a couple of minutes by bike. The neighbors are very friendly and so is the owner. I would rent this place again. S.Owner response: hi S, Would love to have you back again. I've just completed adding some insulation to the upstairs attic and increased the Air Conditioning BTU's for the upstairs. I often remind guests to use the attic fan b/w 9pm and 11pm. It cools down the whole house and often makes air conditioning unnecessary. Thanks for the feedback. Hope to see you in Vienna next time I'm there- hopefully next spring.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 1996
About the owner: I'm a management consultant and have worked and traveled in many places across the U.S. and internationally. I initially chose Boulder as my home, nearly 30 years ago, when I was a young Colorado Outward Bound School instructor. Mesmerized by the phenomenal access to the mountains, deserts and rivers of the West- I spent my 20's & 30's basically living and working outdoors. After working for several Outward Bound Schools internationally, I returned to Boulder in 1991 to begin a consulting and training practice. It has the perfect combination of small city living, is close to a larger metropolitan area (Denver) and an airport that can get you anywhere you need. On top of that- its probably one of the most energetic environments you'd ever want to visit. Close to running, hiking, biking and climbing (for all levels) as well as great food and access to creative people who live here for a myriad of good reasons. Its cliche to those who live here and the thousands who visit every year- but it really is one of the best places to live (or visit) in the U.S... or anywhere, for that matter.
Why the Owner Chose Boulder:
I chose to live here because its a community that attracts adventurous types as well as creative people pursuing their aspirations. I was lucky enough to buy a house near the foothills so I could jump on my bike or lace up my running shoes (between client calls) and still make it back for another appointment.
The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
Why this cottage?
* Close to everything that Boulder and our Mountain Parks have to offer
* Restaurants, shopping and many amenities are accessible by foot or bike
* I've been a local here in Boulder for almost 30 years. I can give you the latest information on restaurants, hiking & biking trails as well as just 'live like a local' options.
