Our family flew from the States to Williamstadt House and stayed for the entire month of June. My wife and I brought our 4 children---ages 11, 13,14, 16 and we had no idea what to expect. What we found was literally paradise. Beyond the obvious grandeur of this awesome farm estate we met two of the kindest, most interesting people we have ever had the privilege of spending time with. Kevin and Carole Clarke (the owners) went above and beyond to show us the vacation of a lifetime. Carole hooked us up with a local blacksmith for a private day of learning and working with tools. Kevin took my boys out chopping wood and shared with them some of his amazing stories of adventure from his 10+ years living in Africa. Spending time with Kevin and Carole was like taking a slow, fragrant walk through a great Irish history book. We spent many a meals together talking and sharing life. They were two of the most gracious and humble hosts you can imagine. If we had a desire to see something or do something, they did everything they could to make it happen. The property is authentic and amazing. Lovely, live animals are all over the property…ducks, chickens, cool dogs with great personalities, a horse, etc.. The accommodations, artwork, and exotic animal mounts were absolutely amazing. My morning coffee was imbibed in what I found out to be a 100yr old Irish coffee cup, that just happened to be hanging around with all kinds of other interesting antiques in the kitchen. I took my nightly Jameson in a beautiful old antique whiskey glass from a distillery that has been closed down for over 50 years…another Irish artifact that seem to be all over the house. Kevin noticed I liked the glass so much he gave it to me when I left to take home! We purchasing fresh duck, pork and chicken from the local butcher a couple miles away. We cooked great dinners in cast iron pans over an open fire in the “man cave” out in the back. Although the place has a wonderful, fully furnished kitchen, we loved the ambiance of dinner and drinks in the “cave” out back. Words cannot describe the beauty and peace that we enjoyed every moment of every day. Where else can you take 4 kids who become so enamored with nature that they forget to turn on a TV for the first 2 weeks? It would be impossible to write down all the numerous goodies this place has to offer, but I know this, rarely a day passes when one of my children won’t ask me “Dad when are we going back?"

Owner response: Well, when are you coming back?? Let us know and we'll organize a parade in the village, I know for a fact that it will be very well attended. That's how much you are missed!! We were so lucky to have you guys for a whole month and you are honorary Whitegatians now. Or Willystadt-ers. Hurry back! The animals beckon! Mandy I will send pictures of Kate, she lives down the road now. Miss you guys!! Carole and Kevin

Our party of four teenagers and four adults felt truly privileged to spend a most magical week at Williamstadt House. Carole and Kevin were the absolute epitome of graciousness. They made every moment of our stay completely splendid, leaving no detail unattended. They welcomed us into their amazing world, and we were immersed in local warmth and authentic, Irish experiences. Their beautifully appointed home set in the lush, Irish countryside was full of charm, whimsy and lovingly detailed decor. Williamstadt is a jewel, surrounded by gently rolling hills and the nearby silvery waters of Lough Dergh. It is a stunning destination and history lesson all by itself. There were activities for everyone, whether that involved a good book by the fire, strolling the grounds, feeding the chickens or bird watching in the garden. More active pursuits included hiking, biking, golfing, hunting or horseback riding. Carole made any excursion possible, and was an extremely knowledgable and patient tour guide. She literally knew the answer to any question asked of her. In an all too short week, we were able to see the Cliffs of Moher, Portumna Castle, local Irish work houses, monastic ruins, towers, cemeteries and a wonderful array of pubs. Our group explored, hiked and rode around the gorgeous, green wilderness and Fairy Wood surrounding Williamstadt. Irish atmosphere abounds in all corners, and all of our dreams of Ireland were completely fulfilled. Shannon Airport was less than an hour away, which made our exit quite convenient, allowing one last tour stop at Bunratty Castle and Theme Park. As a bonus, we rented the perfectly renovated Gameskeeper's Cottage for our teen boys to share, adjacent to the main house. Although the main house itself was more than ample space for our party of eight, the cottage was a fun "extra" option for our group, and beyond cool for the boys! It was an utterly unforgettable, fairy tale vacation. This is how we all have described our precious time at Williamstadt. Kevin and Carole, we can never thank you enough. Brenna Beasley & Travel Party Austin, TX Recommended for families and adults/children of all ages. Very spacious and completely safe, friendly environment.

Our stay at the Williamstadt House was wonderful. Coming from the suburbs in the States it took a little time to get adjusted to this country setting but once we did, it was all great. The facilities were "unique" in the sense that you were stepping back in time but had all the luxuries of 2012. Our Hosts were two of the nicest and interesting people we've ever met in our travels as a Family. County Clare is a beautiful place and perfect for making daily road trips throughout southern and western Ireland. Great pubs are found everywhere and as stated earlier, the countryside is absolutely beautiful (rain or shine). We would definitely recommend both this House and location, if you really want to see Ireland outside the major cities. Our Hosts....Carole & Kevin...are worth the trip alone!

This was hands down one of the most memorable family vacations ever. We are a family of seven with three daughters 17,15 and 11 and two grandparents. So there were many needs to accomodate. Williamstadt House was beautiful and comfortable and it was the excusions that Kevin and Carole helped us arrange that made the trip so unforgetable. The two weeks we had there were pure heaven; that included horseback riding, bicycling, exploring castles even kayaking. Kevin arranged for us to fish on Lough Derg and we caught six trout(not kidding) in one day! The only stressful time was trying to get the girls out of the indoor swimming pool! We will defintely be back. Trout beware!

Williamstadt House is a fantastic place to stay and a great base from which to tour the lovely countryside of Ireland. I've done it twice so far and am ready to go back again. The house and grounds are gorgeous, a combination of a vast and lush open yard around the house, and wooded acres across the street that slope down to the beautiful Lough Dergh. We rowed across the lake in the evening to a little village called George Kennedy, where the local pub featured "trad" (traditional Irish music). It felt like a movie. The house itself has so much character and charm; I love to wander from room to room, looking at the eclectic furnishings and paintings, enjoying the fireplaces and soaking in the lovely Victorian tub in a bathroom the size of my kitchen! Around a cobblestone courtyard are some very cool stone "outbuildings", one of which has a huge fireplace. They call this spot the "pub" and cook in the open fire. The entire place has such an incredible atmosphere, comfortable and homey but very cool and fun at the same time. I love the nearby villages of Mountshannon (great pottery shop) and Scariff (check out the hardware/general store- you won't believe the sorts of oddities you can find there). The Irish are known for being friendly and it is absolutely true- as is their reputation for having the gift of gab- you'll never have to search far to find someone to talk to. Day trips to Galway and the Burren/Cliffs of Moher are easy, as well as to Portumna, where there is a lovely country club and golf course. We also traveled farther west, to Connemara, which is a must-see. We spent a great deal of time outdoors, walking and exploring the various towns and villages. I haven't found anything I didn't like about Ireland- even the cool weather. It's a nice change from the hot and steamy New York city summers.

You crossed the lake to Garykennedy, (sorry George!) who's wonderful pub is famous for it's traditional music and lovely food. We welcome you back to our abode anytime!!

I spent the most incredible week of my life at this house, it was like a dream vacation. The grounds and surroundings are gorgeous, while the house is like walking onto a movie set with the ideal Irish country house as the main attraction. The vacation allowed us the flexibility to swim on demand in our own pool there at the house, while also having the lake close enough by to enjoy the water. The town and the people are so warm and friendly that you never feel like a stranger!

Staying at Williamstadt House was an amazing experience! The beautiful antiques, charming comfort, terrific weather (a light drizzle for a short time every day to keep the grass green), comfortable beds made our introduction to Ireland so welcoming. Even thought every modern convenience is at your fingertips (lots of hot water, washer and dryer, internet, tv), a distinct timelessness makes for an authentic visit. The kitchen was a natural draw: rustic heavy beams covered in antique cooking implements, a huge wooden table and a fine cup of tea made every afternoon perfect. We spent a lot of time walking the grounds and the wood across the street. It is helpful to have a car to explore the back roads and small surrounding towns. The locals were welcoming, kind and inclusive. We cooked several memorable meals and ate on the glassed in sunroom in the late evenings (it didn't get dark until about 10 pm). Even though we intended to get to Dublin, we had such a great and relaxing time here that we wound up staying put and exploring Scariff, Mountshannon, Whitegate and the local area. Driving on the opposite side of the road was a trick to get used to but it wasn't nearly as difficult as I thought it would be. The beautifully built stone walls were works of art. In short, beautiful home, rent a car, bring your hiking shoes and prepare to rest and relax and cook up some great meals. Did I mention this place even has a pool?! Can't wait for our next trip!!

My most recent trip to the Emerald Isle found me and my hunting companions once again comfortably lodged at Williamstadt House. This latest escape from reality marked my sixth stay at Williamstadt House, each one as memorable as the last. Both Carole and Kevin Clarke seem to have cornered the market on hospitality. I have travelled the world for both business and pleasure and have never met two more genuine individuals. The manor grounds are nothing less than spectacular. Manicured lawns, sculped gardens and secret wooded paths steal you away to a time seemingly lost forever. If peace and quiet is high on your list of priorities, this is the place for you. Should you desire more personal interaction, the doors at the local pub are always open to satisfy your thirst for the local social scene. The Irish whiskey and Guiness beer are satisfying as well. If you prefer taking your whiskey closer to home, Williamstadt House has its own private pub including a turf/wood burning fireplace. For those in pursuit of shooting sports, I can attest to the quality of gunning opportunities for Red Stag, Sika and Fallow deer as well as wood pigeon, pheasant, grouse, woodcock and duck. For the fisherman, the Mayfly hatch on Lough Derg is world class. Anglers from all of Europe flock to this region to match their skills against trophy brown trout rising to the fly. Williamstadt House is convienently nestled on the banks of Lough Derg mere moments away from a multitude of water sport activities. Given the opportunity, dont pass up a boat ride across the lake for warm loaves of brown bread, steamed mussels and another pint of Guiness. The home is well kept inside and out. The kitchen is spacious and well suited for casual dining. The formal areas including the men's and women's parlours are beautifully appointed and very comfortable. The spacious sleeping quarters leave nothing to want. The bath areas are very clean and offer modern amenities all the while maintaining old world style and function. Nothing beats a hand drawn bath after a long day of sightseeing or deer stalking. You must see this place first hand to experience its magical qualities. Whether you are travelling with the entire family or just a few hunting buddies, Kevin and Carole will be waiting for you with open arms and a warm Irish smile. I am looking forward to yet another stay this fall...Steve
