House with a pool on a very private spot. The large deck in upper floor with ocean view is a perfect place to watch monkeys, sloths, toucans and other wildlife. The open space living room makes you feel part of jungle and gets pleasant breeze from the ocean.
There are two bedrooms, two bathrooms, fully equipped kitchen and beautiful hammock room set up in the jungle above the pool.
Large swimming pool (9m x 4,5 m) in the middle of jungle is a special experience. You can watch toucans and monkeys just from the water. Connected with house by huge teak deck. The pool could be lightened at night
The house offers lot of privacy and jungle experience just 15 minutes drive to Puerto Viejo village . It is close to Gandoca Manzanillo Wildlife Refuge and very close to best beaches in Costa Rica ( Punta Uva, Manzanillo, Playa Chiquita ) . Or it is couple minutes drive from world class surfing beaches like Playa Cocles and Playa Negra.

My family of 5 just returned from back-to-back visits to Puerto Viejo in 2012 and 2013. In addition, Casita Tucan did not disappoint with its idyllic salt water pool and amazing wildlife. After long days at the beach and in town shopping, the cool waters of the pool and surrounding views were phenomenal. IMPORTANT NOTE- 4x4 REQUIRED. The house itself is much more luxurious/finished than others we have stayed at. It includes dry wall and paint in the living areas/bedrooms which provides a nice homey feel. As with most homes in the area, it did not have AC, but ocean breezes and ceiling fans kept the place comfortable on all but the warmest days/nights. If there was one area that the owner could make improvements, it would be installing a ceiling fan in the main floor bedroom and having either box or pedestal fans available for more air circulation on those 38 degree/100% humidity days. Casita Tucan is THE PLACE for those that want to experience the jungle without having to drive to it or go on an excursion. My family observed and successfully identified far more creatures just hanging out around the pool than the most expensive rain forest or canopy tour. The centuries-old "mother" trees in the front and back yard were full of wildlife daily including 3 species of toucans (Keel-billed, Aricari, and Chestnut), Green Parrots, hummingbirds, Tanagers, Green Iguanas, squirrels, white-face capuchin and howler monkeys, and most impressively a giant 3-toed sloth that my daughter named Chewbaca. In addition, several species of lizards and geckos were quite common and often nearly underfoot or overhead. Those that are freaked out by insects and spiders may want to consider another home. Being situated far from town and literally in the jungle, the size and abundance of our 6 and 8 legged neighbors was impressive. However, mosquitoes were actually quite rare surprisingly. In 12 days at the home I estimate that we observed and dispatched less than 2 dozen of the flying menace. The sand fleas at some of the beaches were actually much more annoying and irritating. The caretaker, Guillermo, was a gentleman and professional. He was always quick to respond to both texts and phone calls, and even brought us organic coffee and produce from a trip to San Jose. Guillermo's employee Mary came to the home twice weekly to do laundry, wash dishes, and tidy up, and she too did a phenomenal job. My family loved this place and hope to return in the future.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children.

We have spent one beautiful week in the Casita Tucan. It is located in the hills above the Caribbean only about half a mile from the nearest beach. It is a two-story house with observation deck and master bedroom on the second floor. Kitchen, dining room and second bedroom are on the first floor. The house is well equipped. It has 2 bathrooms, washing machine and dishwasher. Supplies can be replenished in a few small stores (including a French bakery) en route to the beach. While the ocean is visible from the deck on the second floor, the house is surrounded by a sliver of jungle with some impressively large trees. The deck is perfect place for observing wild life in the mornings and late afternoon. With the location up on a hill we have received a nice breeze most of the day keeping the house comfortable. Even though the nearest beach is in walking distance it is worthwhile to explore other beautiful places located within 8 mile radius where we found some great spots for swimming and snorkeling. The Cahuita National Park and The Manzanillo National Refuge are highly recommended. Both are close by and have opportunities for trekking in the jungle. The nearby towns offer a balanced mix of local and international activities including a decent nightlife. We would definitely stay here again and we highly recommend experiencing this unforgettable getaway!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

The place is very well kept and very spacious. The description and the photos are accurate. The ocean is visible from the house; however the view of the ocean is restricted due to trees. This did not spoil our experience. The communication with the owner was excellent; additionally there is a local manager, in case of any issues. He was very professional/friendly and looked after property at owner’s absence very well. The swimming pool is fabulous, perfect to relax in evening and definite must if you have children. I have stayed for two weeks with no issues whatsoever (family of five). There is a shop, five minutes walk away, that is reasonably stocked up. Or alternatively you can find many shops and restaurants in a nearby village of Puerto Viejo, 10 minutes drive away. There are several choices of beaches. To relax Playa Chiquita or Manzanillo, if you prefer bit of surfing than I recommend Playa Cockles. I would recommend going to Manzanillo, once you get there carry on as far as you can keeping to the sea. Right in the end you will be able to park your car. If you walk further 2/3 minutes you find perfect place for diving (without needing to go out in the boat). If you fancy walking through jungle Cahuita is worth considering, it is about 3 hours pleasant walk through jungle with sea constantly beside. You can also arrange many different trips at Puerto Viejo. If you fancy overnight trips you can go to Panama City. Tortugero National Park is also worth considering. You’ll jump on the boat at Limon, which will take you to the park. The same boat will take you back to Limon next day. Overall, it was a fantastic experience, I will definitely recommend visit.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children.

Great house in the middle of jungle corresponding completely with the listing description and photographs. As a matter of fact, reality was almost even better - with various animal species within the sight and just a few steps from the wite-sand beaches. All comfort one would need. We spent there a fortnight with our children (aged 13 and 8) and just loved it. Perfect starting point for trips to national parks of Manzanillo, Cahuita or Tortugero. The nearby town of Puerto Viejo has an authentic Carribean atmosphere with its typical relaxed pace and plenty of bars inviting for a drink. A place I would recommend to anybody and I would always want to get back to.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children.
