A warm Irish welcome is guaranteed this lovely cottage which is over 100 years old was recently renovated (2007), it is cosy and yet spacious enough to easily accommodate from &-8 people, one double bedroom, and one large bedroom with a double bunk bed with a single on top and a single divan bed. There is a very comfortable sofa bed in the main living room. The house is full of charm and while finished to a high standard it nevertheless retains its character and is very much 'an Irish Cottage', as opposed to a property filled with 'flat pack generic furniture', There are also childrens toys (0-8 years) available along with high chair, daybed and cot upon request. It is an ideal location if you wish to get away from it all and yet be within reach of civilisation (the local hostleries and eateries) are only a 5 to 7 min drive away. The great thing about Carrowholly Cottage is its suitablility for different types of holiday, as a base to travel the West Coast of Ireland, or as retreat where you can paint, draw, write or just chill and be alone. It is ideal if you like treking /hiking, swimming, sailing or fishing. Similarly if you are a spiritual person and interested in alternative therapies, there are many such practioniers in the area. This area of Ireland was a place of spiritual plgrimage long before the coming of Christianity. And this 'spiritual' energy is very much apparent even today, what ever your personal beliefs may be. It is an ideal place to find your 'inner peace'. This is a house for all seasons and all ages, for those who would like to feel 'at home' in a warm and comfortable environment.
Keywords: Ideal for artists, painters, writers and musicians who would like a place to inspire them (without moving outside the front door ;). Its also great for groups of up to 6-8 people, young families and romantic getaway weekends for two. It has a terraced garden enclosed, single story, and full of character as well as being cosy, comfortable and has a very high standard of cleanliness,

We had a lovely week at this cottage in Carrowholly, near Westport. It was just me and hubby, but I think there is plenty of room if you have children. It’s an old cottage that’s been nicely done up, with central heating and fitted kitchen etc. Our favorite place was the sunroom, where we could eat breakfast and admire the view of Croagh Patrick. The local area is nice and quiet, but it’s only a few minutes to town for shopping and pubs. It’s also nearby the sailing club, riding stables and walking trail to Newport. An excellent value, too.Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with young children, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.
Owner response: Thank you, we are very happy that you enjoyed your stay at "Carrowholly Cottage" and we look forward to seeing you again. Best regards Jackie

We had a fantastic holiday in Westport and Carrowholly cottage was a great base to explore Co. Mayo .The cottage is very spacious and kept to a very high stanard . The sunroom was my favourite room with a view out of this world , our family ate all of our meals in it . The garden's are very safe for the kids and our pet dog (all closed in ) .The house is located near Westport House, which has every-thing you could possibly think of to keep the kids (and big kids) happy .The town its-self is lovely , and has loads of tradional Irish bars and what looks like a viberant nightlife .Carrowholly is the idael location for what ever type of holiday you desire whether that is a quite getaway or an active more adventurous one (it's about a 5min drive to the town center) Jackie the owner went out of her way for us and Ray the manager of the property was very helpful . I really hope to make a return visit next year .Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, families with young children, pet owners, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with teenagers.
Owner response: We are very glad that you and your family enjoyed your stay at Carrowholly Cottage and we look forward to seeing you again. We are also happy that the house worked so well for you.

The cottage was perfect for us (2adults & 2 young children) and we are so glad we found you! The cottage was in a perfect spot for us near enough town (10 min drive) but in the middle of nowhere and we enjoyed all it had to offer. Every amenity down to the littlest items provided - so often in holiday homes they don't provide decent cutting knives, a colander, enough saucepans, a peeler or grater - not so here! Plenty of towels and linens too. Spotlessly clean and very comfortable. A real gem of a place with views to die for! We loved seeing the cows and their calves run down the hill at the back of the house every evening getting ready to settle for the night and watching the huge hare in the field opposite who could hardly move for the amount of food he'd consumed!!Recommended for: Sightseeing, people with disabilities, girls getaway, families with young children, pet owners, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.
Owner response: Dear Georgina, Thank you for the great review, we really want our guests to enjoy their holidays at Carrowholly Cottage and thank you too for the feedback that you gave us as it helps us provide the kind of service that we would like to receive if we were renting a similar property. We hope that you will visit again. Best regards Jackie and Peo

About the owner: When we we children we spent our summers in this area as my Father was from Co Mayo, we loved it very much and had very many happy memories, then when I grew up and left the country like many of my generation I always thought that if I returned to Ireland I would stay here in a place like Carrowholly, my neighbours are excellent and every time I come back 'home' I feel so at peace and happy in this environment,. My work for a Humanitarian Organisation has taken me to many war zones and places which have seen horrible events, when things get really bad I think of 'my safe place', and especially since I have become a mother this house has come to mean even more to us as a family, we have had many happy Christmas holidays in our cottage, for me it is a place full of happy memories and loving times. My Parents and Siblings also use it as well and it is great for up to 2 dogs with plenty of areas in which they can be safely let out but enclosed within the property. We also have a resident 'Robin', who lives in a tree just beside the conservatory, he always looks slightly the worse for wear with ruffled feathers, but if you leave out food for him and sit quite still you will see him fly down to the decking area along with many other types of birds who live in the area.
Why the Owner Chose Westport:
I choose to buy this cottage because It is located in an area where my family originates from and where I spent time as a child (almost every summer until I was 18 years old) I wish to retire here when the time comes, and for me it is a place of peace, quiet, beauty and serenity. Close to local aminities but yet isolated enough to feel at one with nature.
The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
The cottage is a single story cottage built on the side of a hill and is therefore elevated, with an upper and lower garden, which includes a terrace and decking area both of which are enclosed. There are many high quality restraunts in the locality, especially in Westport Town. Italian, Chinese, Indian, Irish, and French. The three which are my /our current favourites are 'La Volcano', and Sol o mio in mainstreet, and Mangos which have excellent steaks and a brilliant wine list. There are also great public houses which have different music traditional and modern every night of the week.
