The location of the house was perfect - we really enjoyed walking down to the beautiful private beach each day. We really enjoyed hunting for sharks teeth (we even managed to find a few) and sunset walks, as well as bonfires and fireworks on July 4th - it was a REALLY GREAT 4th of July for all of us. There were a lot of jellyfish, but I think that is normal for this time of year, and it didn't really stop us from wading and playing in the water. The house was a lot of fun for my kids and nephews, all under the age of 8. It was a little challenging for my 2 year old daughter with all of the stairs between the kids room and the master bedroom upstairs, but we adjusted as we were there for three weeks. The house was spacious and fairly well equipped. My only complaint was the AC units. There was one AC unit, which worked quite poorly, in the downstairs living area, which covered the living room, dining room and kitchen. We were there during a week of 100F + temperatures, and the living area never cooled to below 85F. My elderly grandmother found it particularly hard to be outside of her room that week. The window AC units in the rest of the house worked better, but left a lot to be desired. I think the house would be very comfortable in the spring or autumn, however. We loved sitting on the porch and seeing the boats on the walk down to the beach. It was a short drive to some nice hiking/ walking areas - Calvert Cliffs Beach (watch out for copperheads!) and Flag Pond (better facilities, but tremendously jellyfish-ridden). It was also fairly easy getting into DC to go to the museums for the day. I notice someone left a comment about using a pool. We tried to use the pool across the road but were told we were not allowed. We tried the recreational pool which is about 15 min drive, and the kids loved it, although we found it a bit overcrowded. All in all, we spent a great three weeks in the house. My family came out from Doha, Qatar; my in-laws were visiting from England; my mom from El Salvador; my sister and her family from Georgia; and my grandma from North Carolina. Thank you.Recommended for: Girls getaway, adventure seekers, families with teenagers.

Our Girl Scout troop visited DC for the 100th anniv Rock the Mall event and the Kernans let us stay at this beautiful home. The owners even had an extra air mattress all ready for us. We had a blast down at the beach where the water was calm and beautiful. The house was spacious with comfortable furniture and bedding. The girls spent an evening in the "pub" watching tv and making as much noise laughing and talking as they wanted while us adults enjoyed the front porch rockers. We all agreed we didn't want to leave!Recommended for: Sightseeing, girls getaway, families with young children, age 55+, families with teenagers.

Review Submitted August 30, 2006 Date of Stay August 1, 2006 The place was nicer than we expected, a lot of rooms and many amenities. The owner was very easy to work with, very agreeable and reasonable. We enjoyed bonfires on the beach and eating lots of crabs. The place was cozy and the neighbors were all very nice. It was great that there was no crowd on the private beach so we were able to relax. Thanks for a great time!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Chula Vista, Mexico Review Submitted December 28, 2011 Date of Stay December 23, 2011 We spent Christmas weekend at this lovely home in St. Leonard. The owners went out of their way to make our stay comfortable and warm. They answered our calls and helped us get acquainted with the property and the surrounding communities. The house is huge and so complete. Everything we needed was there, and then some. Night 1... our kids got into blackjack game that went on and on, much to the chagrin of the losers. While we didn't spend much time in the pub, it would really come in handy in the summer months and for those weekend football games. My entire family thanked me for finding this property; they were all impressed. HIGHLY RECOMMENDEDDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0
