Gorgeous ocean views, perfect gardens in a forest setting, and Luna Mar's superb permanent staff of 5 complement the brilliant architecture to create a truly exceptional experience in the heart of the Mexican Riviera. In an exclusive gated community with 20 lots and private beach, Los Ranchos is part of the larger Punta Mita Resort development (which is a 3 minute ride away), giving guests access to 2 Jack Nicklaus golf courses, tennis club, children's play areas, pool and activities, fine dining, beach clubs, water sports, and much more. But it is just as likely you will never want to leave the Villa!
At the Villa itself is a spectacular pool area with padded lounge chairs, where you can watch the ocean roll in ... or walk 40 steps across the Villa's lawn to the private beach. If you wish, arrangements could be made with local excursion and sporting businesses to provide discounted professional services (with no mark-up and at the same prices owners pay) for fishing excursions or island hopping (including spectacular Marietas Islands National Park that is minutes away and part of the spectacular view from the house), boat rides to local villages accessible only by water, surfing or water board lessons, SCUBA or snorkeling, or a host of other activities pre-packaged or tailored by you. These are private tours that pick you up and drop you off on the Villa's private beach, researched and initiated by the owners for their own use, and offered to guests at the same rate as part of the Villa experience.
The Villa also has its own beach toys, including a 2-person ocean kayak, surf board, paddle board, and boogie boards.
The Luna Mar staff is the heart of the Villa; 4 of the 5 have been there since the Villa was designed and built in 2009. A fifth was hired when ownership changed in 2014. Headed by Joel, a seasoned professional trained in 5-star hospitality and luxury resorts, the entire staff has had extensive training and experience in hospitality services. They take tremendous pride and exceptional care in attending to your every need to make your experience at Luna Mar one you will always treasure. Chef Berta will treat you morning, noon, and evening with dining experiences that wow, with dishes from her Mexican cuisine menu or your tailored requests. Her creations are worth the trip! Lupe is a man of many talents, always ahead of your wants by one step or two. His ever-changing original dinner table artwork pieces create permanent memories that make up for their all-too-short lives. They are often set to the theme of Joel's dinner venue for that evening, which you can direct or leave to Joel for a surprise that always delights. Reina attends to the house with loving care and is a master at individualized pillow treats that seem to be the first topic of conversation at the breakfast table each morning. Hugo keeps the facilities running smoothly, with professional efficiency and highest reliability, and a contagious personality. However, it is misleading to label the staff individually. They work as a team, filling in where needed, with one goal in mind: creating an exceptional and very permanent experience for all our guests.
The Villa itself is beautifully appointed with fountains, garden pathways, perfect niches, spectacular courtyards, patios and a warm common area. The smallest of the bedroom suites is over 1,000 s/f, and all come with indoor and outdoor showers. All bedrooms have outdoor beds and/or hammocks for daytime naps or nighttime sleeping to the sound of the waves. The master bedroom complex is nearly 2,000 s/f indoors, and 1,000 s/f outdoors, with one huge veranda overlooking the ocean and another above the tranquil inner courtyard. Renowned architect Jose Vigil (www.jvas.net) does a masterful job of creating and then bringing together all these extraordinary spaces in a way that that manages to make a decadent Villa complex into a very warm home.
The staff enjoys providing different dining experiences each evening in the many elegant spaces of the Villa. One night a torch-lit dinner on the beach, the next a rooftop star-gazing dinner, then maybe on the new ocean viewing patio/fireplace area, still another in the courtyard by the fountain, and of course, dinner poolside. The table detail is amazing for each dinner. Bring your camera!
Dining is special. The staff delights in offering creative new dining experiences throughout the villa. One night a torchlit affair on the beach, the next on the roof, then poolside, courtyard, patio....moreless
2 person kayak, paddle board, surf board, boogie boards at the Villa. Much more available at the Punta Mita Beach Club (including private lessons), available through owner's Premier Membership....moreless

Golfers and Tennis Players: Punta Mita Resort (available to our guests) has two 18-hole Jack Nicklaus signature golf courses, and there are numerous other golf courses in the area. The resort also has a tennis pro and multiple courts available to our guests.
Shoppers: Downtown Puerto Vallarta has great shopping, but it is best to tie it to a day trip, as it is about 40 minutes into town. However, that works because there are many other interesting things for non-shoppers, too. There is a boardwalk with restaurants, bars, shops and galleries. While there are much closer luxury shops at the resort hotels (St. Regis and Four Seasons) and interesting shopping in Punta Mita Village, both 5 minutes away, we enjoy going out a bit further to local villages nearby. Sayulita, for example, is 15 minutes away and is a quaint little town chock full of art galleries, local craft shops, clothes shopping and more. It also has a public beach area great for surfing and paddle boarding with good restaurants on and off the beach (try Don Pedro, which has Salsa night on Mondays).
Surfers: Surfers havens are found throughout Punta Mita. Go to 'http://www.surf-forecast.com/breaks/Punta-De-Mita' for details.
SCUBA divers: Take a group excursion from Punta Mita, or better yet, allow the staff to arrange a private pick-up on the beach at the Villa. Owner is a certified diver and enjoys diving near the Marietas Islands National Park, a 10-minute boat ride from the Villa beach.
Snorklers: There is a reef 60 yards out from the Villa beach that has great snorkeling. Diving for oysters or lobsters is fun there (the owner does it with local divers, who the staff could arrange to guide you). Also, there are many other snorkeling opportunities throughout Banderas Bay, including the Marietas Islands noted above.
1. Sayulita Village (noted above).
2. Take a panga (or water taxi) from the Villa private beach to the water-access-only village of Quimixto to find a serene beach surrounded by boulders, perfect for snorkelers, as well as Yelapa, the largest remote beach..
3. Old Town Puerto Vallarta. Shopping (noted above), tourist strolling, restaurants of all calibers, galleries, museums, water sports, etc. You can easily put together a full day trip to PV that can satisfy the preferences of all ages and genders!
On the water: Combine a trip to Marietas Islands with a SCUBA or snorkeling activity, or with a fishing trip.
Year Purchased: 2014
About the owner: We visited the property for the first time in April of 2014. We immediately fell in love with the Villa, the staff, and the setting. After researching other Villas in Los Ranchos, and in the surrounding area, we determined that Luna Mar was where we needed to be. We closed on the property at the end of July, looking forward to years of memories with family and friends. After considerable research and advice from other owners in the area, it became clear that an occupied house is better than allowing it to be empty in our absence -- for the staff and for the facilities. Given our own experience there, we decided to continue offering the property for lifetime experiences.
Why the Owner Chose Ranchos Estates:
The staff. The architecture. The setting. We have been fortunate to travel the world, and have never found a place as tranquil and private as this while still having such spectacular natural resources.
The Unique Benefits at this Villa:
It is an exceptionally private Villa, with ready access to innumerable sporting and entertainment activities. You have complete control on the degree of privacy or access. Either is easy to accomplish, depending on your mood or intention on any given day.
