You’ll think you’ve stepped back in time when you approach our beautiful Louisiana plantation home-Gator Bay. It is located at the end of a cul-de-sac in the St. Johns Place sub-division which requires all homes to be correct reproductions of historical homes. Gator Bay, located at # 16 St. Johns Place, is a reproduction of the Home Place Plantation home located on the Mississippi River just north of New Orleans.
For a golfer, you are about to experience “golfing paradise” with a driving range, a chipping green with a large sand trap and a putting green, all no more than a 5 iron from your back door - and all surrounded by a 27 hole golf course. Complete golf facilities could not be more accessible. Gator Bay is located on the Shipyard Golf Course just a few steps away from a well stocked Pro Shop with a lovely indoor/outdoor dining facility. The first tee on the Galleon course is only a stone’s throw away while the view from our back porch reveals the ninth fairway of the Galleon course located across a large lagoon, complete with alligators and fish - thus the name Gator Bay. And the best part is you don’t pay extra for this wonderful golf experience.
When not golfing, you might enjoy a bicycle ride on one of our 8 bicycles along the many miles of bike paths around Hilton Head. And only a short 8 minute bike ride away is the Shipyard Beach Clubhouse on the Atlantic Ocean with its beautiful sandy beaches. Underneath the Beach Clubhouse, you will find our beach locker stocked with beach chairs and beach toys for your enjoyment. Back at the Gator Bay, you will find beach towels and other beach equipment, all available for your use at the beach.
Our very spacious home (3,664 sq. ft. air-conditioned) also includes a very large (625 sq. ft.) screened outdoor kitchen with a wood burning fireplace, a 52 in. flat-screened TV, gas fired bar-b-que grill, overhead fans and ample comfortable seating. You will particularly enjoy this area since the screening eliminates all insects including “sand gnats”.
All 4 Master Bedrooms contain their own complete private bathrooms with a TV and ceiling fan in each room. Two of the Master Bedrooms contain king sized beds with an over sized twin bed in each as well. Another Master contains a king bed with separate Mr. and Mrs. Bathrooms. The fourth Master Bedroom contains two queen sized beds. If additional sleeping is needed, we have a queen sized hide-a-bed sofa and a queen sized elevated air bed.
The large Great Room which boasts another wood burning fireplace contains ample seating for 2 conversation areas and an entertainment center. The flat screen TV is WiFi equipped and provides free Netflix movies. Additionally, the Great Room TV and the porch TV are equipped with cable boxes which provide program recording. Also in the Great Room you will find a large dining table which can seat 12 next to a kitchen which is large enough for many cooks to participate.
For business or computer activities, our study contains two desks with different inbound/outbound phone lines and a HP fax/printer/copy machine for your use. Long distance phone service is free. Internet cable is provided by Time-Warner with our modem and Wifi router located in the study, providing wireless internet throughout the entire house.
Gator Bay has a double car garage with additional off street parking for your car which is necessary for getting around Hilton Head Island. The garage is located beneath the house at ground level with the Great Room, Study, Outdoor Kitchen and 1 Master Bedroom located on the second floor. Three Master Bedrooms are located on the third floor.
Gator Bay was custom designed and custom built by golfing owners to accommodate a golfing foursome, with or without spouses, or four golfing couples. It also accommodates golfing families and beach families quite well. Your stay at Gator Bay will create memories that will last forever.

The home's photos do not provide justice to this open and spacious home. We have traveled to Hilton Head on many occasions and this home was my personal favorite by far. The property was clean, well maintained and beautifully decorated. The property is decorated with wonderful antiques and keepsakes. The Bench dining room table provided everyone a chance to eat together and reminded me of times as a child where everyone ate together and all talked at the same time. The bedrooms provided plenty of room and each is equipped with its own full bath. The best part for the family was the covered porch; my wife has asked if we can build the same thing at our house. We were able to relax watch some football and enjoy the beautiful weather. The driving range and golf course were wonderful and a simple 100 yard stroll from the basement door. We always enjoy family vacations and this vacation provided plenty of rest and relaxation opportunities with no worries of the home. We were a short drive to our favorite restaurants; The Sea Shack (Shark Attack), The LowCountry Backyard (Shrimp and Grits) and Market Street Café (Philly). Rent the home and you and your family will never go wrong!Recommended for: Girls getaway, families with young children, age 55+, families with teenagers.

About the owner: We are avid golfers and enjoy traveling to play golf. While semi retired, we own a manufacturing company specializing in construction systems. We have 2 children and 5 grandchildren whose favorite place to visit is Gator Bay. We live in Atlanta and often bring our golfing friends to Gator Bay for our highly competitive "golf tournaments".
Why the Owner Chose Private Homes:
We built our home here for golf and the many other activities available, such as the excellent beaches, fishing, boating, shopping, excellent restaurants and sight seeing for our non-golfing friends and family.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
We can go fishing right in our back yard. We have a beach parking pass that allows us to virtually park at the beach and a private locker at the beach to store our beach items. We can literally hit golf balls out of our yard down the driving range and get golf lessons from a PGA professional at our back door.
Additionally, the quality and condition of the 23 public golf courses both on and off the island is outstanding and green fees are reasonable. We enjoy a "golfing paradise" and you will too.
