  Awesome Awesome vacation! We hope to be able to return next year! Mirko and Annett were excellent hosts and helped to arrange transportation needed to dentist plus tours. Cabana was exceptionally clean. The place to be for a relaxing holiday! Marie next door can provide meals with a local flavor which are excellent! Certainly was ready to go home when our visit was over!

  Mirko was so helpful from the first moment I contacted him. This was the perfect place to stay in Hopkins. We loved being in the "real" part of town as opposed to where all the resorts are. To me, Hopkins is not about lying around by a pool. You can do that anywhere. This to us was the lap of luxury as "adult" travellers staying in really rustic (but mostly amazing!) places elsewhere in Belize. This was our splurge. Full and totally decked out kitchen, huge deck, private beach. Crazy! We cooked up a storm, enjoyed our hot showers, loved the comfortable bed, electricity, etc. I wouldn't think twice about staying here again. Absolutely lovely.

  My husband and I just returned from a fabulous holiday in Hopkins! I could tell from the VRBO listing and reviews that Blue Moon Cabana would be perfect for us and we were not disappointed! The cabana was just as advertised and most of all clean and well maintained by our hosts, Mirko and Annette. And a special thank you to Marie next door (so sweet) for maintaining the yard. If you want luxury, this option may not be for you. It's a little cabin on stilts - cute, comfortable, has everything you need, and it's right in the center of a bustling little Garifuna village, making everything very convenient. Most importantly, it's right on the beach, you'll love the beautiful sunrises from the deck! You have grocery stores, gift shops, restaurants/bars very close by, and if you wish to venture a little further and don't care to walk, you can rent dirt bikes, bicycles (we used Mark's Bicycle Rentals, main intersection), golf carts, or take a taxi. We enjoyed waking up early each morning to roosters crowing, the beautiful sound of tropical birds singing and the sounds of the village coming alive - but if you like sleeping in, bring earplugs. Remember, you are LIVING right IN the village, not staying in a remote resort far from town. We found the people of Hopkins friendly & welcoming and felt safe walking anywhere in the village, day or night. Mirko is always available to attend to anything you need and will be happy to arrange any activity in/around Hopkins or beyond that you may wish. He is a trusted professional and will take very good care of you. I highly recommend the snorkeling excursion out to the reef on the Utopia (a beautiful catamaran) with Cindy and her crew. Don't worry if you haven't snorkeled before - they will show you how and you will be with a guide the entire time. The village restaurants are just tiny little places, but all serve wonderful food at reasonable prices. Our favourites were the Driftwood Bar and Pizza Shack (north end on the beach) Iris's Sunnyside Up (south end), Thongs Café (just around the corner) and Frog's Point (near the main intersection). Twice during our stay, we ventured out for a 'resort restaurant' style meal, once to the Beachside Bistro at Hopkins Bay Belize (north end, easy walking distance) and once to Chef Rob's at Parrot Cove Resort (just south of the village - we taxi'd). Both meals were unforgettable! Mirko - a HUGE thank you for everything, we had a wonderful time and would definitely return!

  The cabana is close to the center of town and within easy walking distance of the grocery stores, Caitlyn's bakery and many of the restaurants. The louvered windows let the breeze right off the sea flow through the cabana keeping it cool all the time. The view is wonderful and relaxing. Sitting on the verandah drinking your favorite beverage can sweep you away. We stayed for 3 weeks in September 2012 and enjoyed the whole time. The neighbors are wonderful and we had a great time talking with the guys when they came back in from fishing!

  We only had three nights to spend at the end of a week in Belize, but we loved the Blue Moon Cabana! The porch was like a slice of heaven as we enjoyed the cool breeze off the ocean sipping rum punch. The cabana had everything we needed. Kim thought of everything when she built and equipped this place! We were warmly welcomed by both Mirko, the caretaker, and Marie, the next door neighbor, and all went smoothly to make our stay more than perfect. We highly recommend the Blue Moon as a place to kick back and relax!

  Upon arriving I noticed that the grounds were well manicured and the cabana is beautiful. The sound of the sea embraces you. Inside the cabana was just as described. It is clean, new and relaxing with plenty of seating and a cool breeze flowing through it. All the amenities were as described and more. A cell phone that can be loaded up with minutes from the grocery down the street was a great surprise. The owners were very helpful during my preparation for the trip and throughout the course of my stay. I would definitely recommend this relaxing and quiet getaway to my friends and family. Easy access to sea activities and inland sight seeing. I will return for sure!!

  My wife and I stayed @ Blue Moon Cabana for our honeymoon. It was such a restful & pleasant experience. Everything (restaurants, supermarket, fruit/veggie stand) was so close, the locals were super friendly, and the neighbors were AMAZING. Mirko was so helpful, booking 2 trips for us during our stay that were both great, one snorkeling venture (which I HIGHLY RECOMMEND!) and a zip-lining & mountain hiking experience. I would strongly recommend Blue Moon Cabana to anyone who wants to vacation to a place void of a ton of tourists, but is still not far from fun!

  This house was really cool and overall a really great place to spend a vacation! Upon arriving to the home, I was surprised to find that it is VERY close to other people. I knew that it would be in the town of Hopkins, however, I had no idea the closeness that people would be. The pictures really do not portray that you will be so near people. In fact, it gives the illusion that there is no one close by. Another thing to know, that is not super well explained, is that there are no windows in this home - it is all screened. This adds to the coolness of the house - however, you cannot close any windows to reduce the noise level from all the people so close by. To no fault of the owners, we found the local people to be extremely loud, taking away from our experience in this house and our vacation as a whole. There was people yelling constantly of all hours of the day (not super relaxing to listen to), as well as music. This started at the break of day until sundown. And on Friday, all bets were off. Someone began playing the loudest music I've heard in a long time from across the street at 2 AM!!! Because of this fact, I found myself in tears on a couple of occasions. There was no peace and quiet for rest to be had on our vacation. What we did really like about this place was the uniqueness of the house, the proximity of the ocean, listening to thunderstorms and rain almost every night, and the proximity of anything we could need (restaurants, the market, etc). The low rating is due to the closeness of people and the lack of knowledge I felt I had that the house was so near people and no windows to reduce the noise they made. Had I known these things, we would have stayed elsewhere. We would have left after the first day if it weren't for the fact that cancellations were not allowed within 30 days of your stay. With that said, we picked this place because it looked so cool, was affordable, and it came with rave reviews. Perhaps this was just not the vacation home for us. If you don't mind noise and have a desire to be near the locals, this is the place for you!

We're very sorry you experienced noise from the neighbors and found Hopkins in general to be a noisy village. We do say on our website that it is located right in the village and that our neighbor, Marie, has a big family right next door. We’ve never received complaints about the neighbors from other guests, so we are very surprised to read your review. In fact, we’ve received nothing but glowing feedback from guests about Marie and her family (our neighbors). Again, I’m sorry you had a different experience. Our property manager had contact with you several times during your stay and you didn’t let him know you were unhappy, and during check out he asked you how everything went, and you told him everything was fine. Although we have a 30-day cancellation policy, which is a standard policy for vacation rentals, had you let Mirko know that you were experiencing noise, we could have resolved the issue immediately because we have a great relationship with our neighbors. Or, we would’ve provided you a refund and helped you find other accommodations because our first priority is that our guests are happy. However, since you didn’t let him know, there isn’t anything we can do after-the-fact. Mirko will bend over backwards for guests, especially if there is an issue. We work hard to make the cabana a special place for guests during their stay, but in all fairness, we cannot resolve something if you don’t let us know about the problem. Indeed, Hopkins Village is not for everyone, but you are correct: if one is interested in “being near the locals”—as you say, Blue Moon Cabana is an excellent choice. Although the cabana is situated on a private beachfront lot, we have neighbors --it is a village.

  simple but nice house - we really enjoyed our time - Hopkins was beautiful and fun - the bugs ate us up which was miserable but everything else was fine.

  My wife and I came here on our first leg of our honeymoon trip to Belize. We were warmly greeted by Mirko, the property manager, and taken to our little cabana right on the ocean! The view was spectacular and the cabana was amazingly clean and beautifully decorated! One of our favorite activities was relaxing in the hammocks on the cabana porch in the cool ocean breeze. One of the best things was that Mirko was just an email away. We emailed him about a little problem, something extremely minor, and without hesitation he was there in less than a half hour to remedy the situation. He arranged everything for us from trips to transportation. If you can, have Mirko arrange a fishing/snorkeling trip with Patrick, a friendly local guide who will take you around to the most beautiful spots. We caught a total of 5 fish and had an amazing time-well worth the money and the appropriate tip for Patrick! Can't say enough about this place. The locals were friendly and warm. Whenever we needed directions somewhere they were always willing to help us out. Everything is within walking distance of the cabana and we felt very safe walking the streets both day and night. Thanks again for such a wonderful, relaxing and stress reducing leg of our honeymoon!! We highly recommend the Blue Moon Cabana!
