It has been a week ago that we stayed at this magnificently located home nestled in one of the prettiest settings you will find and I we all very much wish we were still there. If you are looking for a home to spend time with your family while enjoying the best of Colorado each morning through the evening, complete with cozy fires in either or both fireplaces (with plenty of pre-cut, stacked wood)...this is it. From the deck, we watched rabbits circle the house, hummingbirds visiting regularly, eagles soaring high above, mule deer feeding in the brush out front, and elk high on the western mountain top late in the evenings. The snow capped mountains in the distance was our icing on the cake, that everyday...from 6 am on....the sun highlighted their majestic beauty. As Diane indicated, the home was prepared perfectly with all the amenities we needed including wi-fi, fax and phone. Special thanks for the beautiful kitchen, my wife absolutely loved the granite counter tops with matching back-splash....I haven't heard the end of it still...this trip moved our kitchen remodel to the front burner : ) The trip into Canon City is a scenic drive from start to stop, which after a couple trips, will only take 40 minutes to get there. And once there, the city has absolutely everything you need, complete with a Walmart. The local attractions, Royal Gorge, White Water rafting and Helicopter rides are on the way to Canon City and Cripple Creek (casinos) is maybe an hour or so. We went to Colorado Springs area three different times and averaged the drive (one way) at 1.5 hours. This was actually north of C.S. to the AFA. Went horse back riding in The Garden of the Gods, drove up Pikes Peak, and even drove up to Estes Park and seen Big Horn Sheep along the road feeding. Once all this was driving was done, The Autumn Home always welcomed us back home for the evening where we awoke again to the splendor of all it offers it occupants....simply beautiful tranquility. My wife and I are making plans to return, perhaps yet this year...it is a place that has touched our lives forever. Thank you for offering such a wonderful home and sharing the feeling it creates.Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thank you sincerely for the wonderful comments. A lot of time, expense and sweat equity went into this home and when we get comments such as yours, we know it was all worth it. Again, thank you so much and we so look forward to your next visit.

What a great place! My husband and 2 other couples spent 5 days here and enjoyed every minute. House was very clean and had everything we needed. You need to bring only food you want to eat. Refridgerator and cabinets had everything else you need. View was stunning. Aspen trees on the mountains were turning and beautiful. A mama deer and 2 fawns entertained us several times by coming to visit right in the driveway by the deck. We even enjoyed the thunderstorm and hail storm. Of course the fire in the fireplace and the bottle of wine might have aided in the enjoyment of the storms! The first drive in was a little breath taking but it sure didn't stop us from enjoying the surrounding activities. The Royal Gorge, trips to Cripple Creek, Seven Falls, Garden of the Gods and Florence filled our days. Pikes Peak trip was cancelled due to weather on top. We soon got used to the drive in and out of the property. You can believe the pictures and description of this home. Diane, you were wonderful to work with and thank you making your home available for our use. We can now scratch staying in a mountain home off our bucket list!!Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, sightseeing.

The house was outstanding. It accomodated our group of 6 adults and 5 children easily. Each family had their own area. 2 adults and 3 children upstairs in two bedrooms; 2 adults in the master bedroom on the main level; 2 adults and 2 children in the bedroom and in the basement. Even though the highs were 90-95 degrees in canon city it was 10-15 degrees cooler at the house so the temperatures were perfect. Be prepared for 25 of the 35 minute drive from the royal gorge to be on dirt roads. The roads were well maintained but curvy. I would recommend trying to make the initial drive during the day time. We saw a lot of wildlife around the cabin: a black bear on the drive in, deer in the yard around the house, fox and praire dog in the surronding meadow. We only had two complaints about our stay: It would have been nice to have some larger pots to cook with, there were plenty of pots but for larger groups it would have been nice to have a large stock pot and skillet. Second, the broadband access didn't seem to be broadband speed. It had speed that seemed closer to dial up. The broadband may be a good thing though. Get away - no computer, no cell phone, just wide open space and great views. I would definitely recommend the house!Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+.
Owner response: Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback. I never thought about cooking for a big group (we've always been a family of 3), and when I read your suggestion about the stock pot and larger frying pan, I ran right out and purchased them. Thanks again.

We spent a week with my three children and their (8) children at this home. Everything was fantastic and was as advertised in the VRBO web site. The owners were very helpful prior to the visit as well as during the visit (one issue). They answered the issue perfectly and honestly. We plan to spend another week (perhaps next year or the year after) at the home with the other side of the family (my wife's two children and their (7) children. The home is very remote and GREAT!!!!Recommended for: Families with young children, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, sightseeing.

My husband and I spent a luxurious 4 days at this log home. It was the most beautiful place we've ever seen on vacation. The best part? ABSOLUTE QUIET! Our hosts had every imaginable amenity available to make our stay more comfortable and enjoyable ~ right down to the laundry room with detergent & supplies. The home was spotless clean with fresh linens on every bed. I would highly recommend this home for a family get-together (it's very spacious with plenty of rooms and sleeping areas) or just a romantic get-away for the two of you. It's beautifully and tastefully decorated to make you feel right at home. If you love privacy, this is the place for you. We LOVED it. Thank you so much.Recommended for: Age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers, sightseeing.

This house is so beautiful and peaceful. Very spacious and comfortable. The owner has supplied a lot of necessities since it is a little bit of a drive to the nearest town. Beautiful scenery and wildlife to behold. Although we really enjoyed our stay here, we must mention the road to the house was treacherous at points. It is a gravel road that is very high at several places and you have to be extremely careful as there is no guard railing. If you are not use to traveling such roads, this can be somewhat frighting. This is really the only negative thing I have to say about this house. I give it a 4 star!!!Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thank you for your nice comments. I fully understand about the roads. I felt like that coming from Illinois. There are treacherous roads and "common to Colorado" roads. We are in a developed ranch with well maintained roads, and I would not classify our roads treacherous. They are a "piece of cake" compared to others. But yes, there are a few high places in the ranch with breathtaking scenery and all the rural areas, including our ranch, have gravel roads.

The cabin was wonderful -- every amenity you could need; however, this rental is about an hour and a half drive from Canon City. If you are looking to stay somewhere close to the touristy action, this is NOT the place for you! If you are looking to get away from civilization for a few days and be out in the woods, this rental is perfect. The scenery was gorgeous, but it wasn't what we were looking for. We didn't realize we would be spending 10 hours of our vacation just driving to and from the cabin. That aside, we had a great time.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, adventure seekers.
Owner response: Thank you for your nice comments about the home. However, I need to express to future guests that the home is not an hour and half from Canon City, it is about 40 to 45 minutes. It is about a half hour to Royal Gorge and then another 10 minutes on into Canon City. It is an hour and a half to the south end of Colorado Springs. Unfortunately, you have to travel about a half hour minimum from the larger cities into the rural and mountain areas to enjoy these types of settings on acreage with privacy and spectacular views.

Everything that was promised in the advertisement was exactly as stated. This is a beautiful home that is very comfortable with all the amenities. Rarely do you actually get what appears in print but this was an exception. A huge home, three levels... plenty of privacy for everyone. The cabinets stored all the essentials as stated in the ad. The home was very clean. The owners even called to assure everything was good to go! I am going to throw in one suggestions just so the reader knows this is a real review... the property needs an outside grill I would recommend this property to anyone!Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thank you for your very nice review. We have taken your comment about the outside grill to heart and want future guests to know we now have a large gas grill and outdoor furniture on the upper deck to grill outside, relax and enjoy the views.

My husband and I were looking for get away for a few days and we wanted to find a cabin or home up in the mountains somewhere. I started looking on the VRBO website and I found this home. #381112. I emailed the owners and got information back right away about the property. I was instantly sold on staying at this home. The owners were wonderful, worked with us and our scheduels and we finally made it possible to head down to Canon City, Co. We stayed for three nights, 1-19-2012 thru 1-22-2012. The house is about a 45 minute drive from Canon City, but what a drive it is..Scenery is gorgeous..Roads are not all paved but very well maintained...We had no trouble arriving at the house..Once we got the house we were thrilled to find a wonderful mountain cabin..The pictures on the VRBO website are great but once inside the home you are instantly in love with everything you see..It is a wonderful warm, inviting home. We spent three days just relaxing.>you are far away from towns, people, hussle and bussle..just a quiet relaxing place to spend a few days just relaxing. The kitchen is stocked with everything you need to cook..Windows throughout the house bring the sunlight in each morning and it makes the whole house so warm and cozy. The mountain views are truly breath taking. We woke up each morning to the sun coming up and it was wonderful. The wood burning fireplace was a big plus for us..We had a fire each night. The living room is so cozy, you just never want to leave this place.. We found the home to be very clean. It was stocked with everything you would need..Well except for food..You will want to bring food with you or stop in Canon City before you head up to the house, so that once you get there you can just sit back and relax and enjoy...Windows throughout the house bring in all the of the beauty of Colorado..The upper wrap around deck is very nice for going out and watching the sunsets and sunrises. This home is a must see...We will definatly go back and hopefully very soon..We have nothing but positive feedback from our experience. The owners are wonderful people, very informative and pleasant.. They helped make our stay a wonderful experience. Take a few days and go stay in this log cabin home..Recommended for: People with disabilities, families with young children, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thanks so much for your nice review. We never get tired of our visits and feel the same way. We're very happy to provide the opportunity for others to enjoy what we enjoy.
