This is our first experience with VRBO and we will be hard pressed to find another as good. Wouter was very prompt, kind and helpful when responding to our various emails - starting over a year ago. Not only did he give us information about his apartment but also answered questions we had about other areas of Europe as well. Wouter even offered to pick us up and drop us off at the Central Station in Amsterdam. The apartment includes all one needs and many more little extras. We truly felt spoiled upon arrival. Wouter and Liesbeth are very caring, gracious hosts. We highly recommend a stay at the Wooden Wharf House in Amsterdam.Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, age 55+, romantic getaway.

I agree with all of the rave reviews previously written. This was exactly what I was looking for on my first trip to Amsterdam. The bike provided by Wouter was just right and I was able to be in the heart of Amsterdam within minutes. The place was wonderful and clean I almost didn't want to leave the apartment. Loved the view from all directions. I usually like to try different locations when I travel but this is definitely the home I would return to on my next visit. Thanks for all!Recommended for: Tourists without a car.

Beautiful, roomy and wonderfully hidden on an island very close to the heart of Amsterdam. The apartment had all the amenities we needed: internet, 2 flatscreen tvs, fridge, microwave but the best part is the location. Wouter, the gracious owner, supplied us with bikes which we used every day to get around Amsterdam like the natives do. One mile from Central Station and a short bike ride from everything you want to see in Amsterdam, this was one of our most memorable vacations. Thank you, Wouter!Did you find this review helpful? The Wharfhouse is perfectly located (away from the maddening bikes) on a small island connected by charming bridges in a quiet neighborhood in northwestern Amsterdam. The apartment was beautifully furnished, spotless, bright, modern and secure. We asked for breakfast on the morning we arrived and our hosts provided enough food to last for three days! They offer everthing from a personal boat ride on the canals to bikes right at your front door. The hosts live in the apartment next door and were available at any time to answer questions and provide recommendations. We truly felt like the Wharfhouse was home after a busy day touring the city.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, girls getaway.

We stayed at the Wharf House for a week in October and absolutely loved this place! We have stayed at many VRBOs and this is by far our favourite. The floor to ceiling windows, spiral staircase and fresh flowers make this unique property extra special. The suite is clean, bright, modern and simply charming. The location is perfect, walking distance to all the popular attractions as well as grocery stores and fabulous shops. There are bikes available to rent which is handy. The king size bed is extremely comfortable with lovely cotton sheets. They have different types of pillows, plus extra bedding in case you visit in the winter. The small bathroom is well organized and has a fantastic shower. With a separate toilet, it's easy to share. Shampoo and body wash are provided as well as disposable slippers. There are no robes, so bring lounge wear. The kitchenette is tiny and does not have a cooker, but aside from that it has everything you could need and we enjoyed many meals at "home". Overall, we thought this place was perfect and hope to return soon.Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, romantic getaway.

This was the most spacious and comfortable place we stayed during our month in Europe. The apartment was light and roomy and became home during our few days in Amsterdam. It's in a great, quiet neighborhood - just 2 blocks walk, over the bridge to restaurants, shopping and transportation. The furnishings are tasteful and modern and it is very clean and well maintained and is even nicer then the photos. The owners were very kind and helpful. Their maps and restaurant lists were well used. Wish we had scheduled more time in Amsterdam but we were able to see and do a lot of wonderful sight seeing in the time we had there..Hope to return - we will stay at the Wharf House if we do!Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, age 55+, romantic getaway.

Our stay in Amsterdam was a cultural enrichment with lasting memories from all that we experienced. First and foremost was the WHARF HOUSE that is equal to a 5 star luxury hotel suite. The architectural design and execution would win an award with all the details that make the entire apartment an unusual accommodation. It is not only beautiful, but also furnished with high quality furnishings and a mattress that puts you to sleep instantly with a restful night. Wouter and Liesbeth are charming, helpful and pleasant Innkeepers, who make the stay most pleasing. The WHARF HOUSE is a 15 minute walk, west of Central Station from which Trams and Buses transport to all the major attractions. We did take the Tram, but for the most part, we walked casually to wherever we wanted to go. If you are active throughout the day, you will want peace and quiet and you will find it at the WHARF HOUSE. You are on an island, close to the Center, but away from all the noise. We recommend the Wharf HOUSE with Wouter and Liesbeth and guarantee that you will be pleased. Please note that there is a brand new Apartment in the complex that Woulter and Liesbeth have completed, called THE BOAT HOUSE, which accommodates 4 persons and is directly on the canal. It is sensational! If Amsterdam is your destination, then have full confidence that your stay with Woulter and Liesbeth will make it all worthwhile.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway.

My wife and I had a great stay at Wouter and Liesbeth's wonderful apartment they have built in the rear of their canal house. It is every bit as big and as comfortable as the pictures suggest and the quality of the work is testimony to Wouter's lifetime as a boatbuilder. Dealing with them was easy from the outset, they were prompt, accommodating, friendly and very reasonable. They always seemed to be available, but were by no means obtrusive - the best of both worlds. Wouter is not one to leave anything to chance. He has provided features that go beyond what you would find in a five star hotel. From the comfortable bed to the excellent shower to the extra touches like monogrammed soap and shampoo, slippers, fruit and wine on arrival, delicious Dutch biscuits, DVD's, maps of Amsterdam and beyond, you name it, its all there and it all works. Wouter's bikes are well worth hiring for a chance to feel like an Amsterdammer while you are there. The highlight however was the personalised tour of the canals with Wouter and Liesbeth who kindly made recommendations and reservations for us at a delightful restaurant and then delieverd us there by boat. Great memories. We will definitely be back, next time to try out the new apartment he is building on the other side of his amazing block.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, families with young children.
Owner response: Thank you, thank you, thank you Peter and Lisa. Although it is our work, it gives us so much pleasure to see that our guests are having a good time. But we can never do that alone. It will always be a correlation between our guests and us. And to know you want to come back to our place makes us proud. I know you are still traveling at the time you were writing this review. So have a nice tour through Europe and a safe flight home.

I've used other VRBOs and had positive experiences at each one, but this was by far the best. The apartment was extremely well-done and comfortable, well-built and beautiful. The owners live next door, they were very very helpful and personable but also unobtrusive. There were superb touches, like food & wine waiting in the fridge, car service (at very reasonable rates), a bike, and laundry done. The neighborhood in the western Islands is also fantastic, very quiet but close to Centraal, with its own interesting history for the city of Amsterdam.Did you find this review helpful? What a wonderful home. Easy walking distance to the center of town. Quiet and peaceful location. Top quality fittings and furnishiing. Everything was better then described and pictured in the VRBO ad. Worter and Lisbeth are great hosts. Not to be missed is Worter's personal boat tour of the canals. You will be happy you stayed at the Wharfhouse.Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, romantic getaway.
Owner response: Dear James, thank you for your great review. I am happy that you liked our apartment and its location so much and that you liked it that I took you on our boat trip to those canals where the big tourist boats can not come. Hope to see you again on your next visit to Amsterdam!
