Honaunau house description
Our home is located on the Big Island of Hawaii about 16 miles south on HWY 11 from Kailua-Kona town. The road to the house is a somewhat graded/paved single lane road with turnouts and no street lights. The house is approximately 1 mile up the road and located mauka (uphill) off the road with a concrete parking pad in front of the elevated house. A rental car will be okay for the road provided the vehicle is driven with care. The house is 950 square feet with 2 bedrooms and a 3/4 bath (no tub). As can be seen in the photos, the kitchen, living room, and dining area are an open floor plan. The front lanai (deck) faces the southwest expansive ocean view as do the sliding glass doors for the living and dining rooms. All other rooms have views of the many producing coffee trees on the 5 acre farm. Our coffee is picked and sold to Greenwell Farms in Captain Cook. There are tours available at the facility. There are also producing (depending on the season) Papaya, Avacado, Loquat, Mulberry, and Banana trees. Feel free to pick the ripe fruit. The stove and water heater heater are run on propane. The fresh water-shower, all faucets, and toilet are supplied with roof rainwater into above ground catchment tanks, so water conservation is very important. (there is drinking water supplied for your stay). We may be in Hawaii but we still have dry seasons. Because the house is our second home the kitchen is well supplemented with various condiments, dishware, cooking and baking ware. Please note there is no smoking in the house or lanais. The house is located in a semi-tropical area and there are various critters on the property that can be encountered. There is a 3 night minimun stay with no refund once the reservation is confirmed.
In conclusion we hope you enjoy our house with fabulous oceans views, sunsets, crickets, chiriping birds and geckos, roosters, hens and most of all, lack of city noise.

Hidden Gem on the Big Island
Hidden Gem on the Big Island
This cozy cottage is not the usual resort experience, and that's a good thing. Nestled on a working coffee farm surrounded by fruit and nut trees, orchids clustered around the front steps and a veranda that affords an amazing view, this former farm house is an unexpected delight. The inside of the cottage is rustic and comfy with open beams and a large farm kitchen. Though we were well stocked for our two-week stay, every glorious morning we went out and collected avocados and mangoes as big as ostrich eggs! The road leading to the farm traverses a beautiful mountain that is an adventure all it's own. Once settled into the cottage, you can just enjoy the seclusion, the sea, the amazing birds and the peaceful quiet. It is one of the most relaxing vacations I've every had in the islands.

Relaxing and Quiet
Relaxing and Quiet
Our family has stayed at this home on two different trips to Hawaii. We love the location and felt like residents instead of tourists. The fresh fruit and avocados were a wonderful addition to our stay and we enjoyed walking the property. Although the road to the home is windy and narrow, it is well worth the drive. There are beautiful geckos in and around the home which adds to the Hawaiian experience. We enjoyed the sunsets from the lanai, the short drive to Refuge for swimming and snorkeling, and apple turnovers from the bakery in Captain Cook. We will return to enjoy this home again on our next trip to Hawaii.

We loved it!!
We loved it!!
Great property, really enjoyed being out of the city and away from the noise. Very beutiful home, and we loved to walk around the property. Definetly recomend this place for someone who wants the feeling of being on a working coffee farm. All of the neighbors were nice to talk to. The best snorkiling on the island is a short drive down the hill to the city of refuge. We made daily trips their with our picknick basket. Cant wait to go again

Year Purchased: 2004
About the owner: We are semi-retired and enjoy upgrading small homes, traveling, and working in our giant 5 acre yard/coffee farm.
Why the Owner Chose Honaunau:
After spending 7 straight weeks of upgrading the house we became attached and decided to keep the property. The producing coffee farm with the various tropical plants, ocean view, and fruit was also a big influence on keeping the place for a home.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
Picking the fresh fruit, ocean view sunsets ( some with a green flash), working in the field, close proximity to snorkeling and picnicing, and the warm temperate climate.
