  Farm house in Hofdatun is a very good place to stay. My family are 8 people totally to live there in May. It let us feel like a real home in Iceland. All of us all like there and enjoy it. The house is big, confortable and fully equipped. Especially, there is a friendly house owner, she showed us her farm. And let us get closer with the sheeps and horses, we even saw the lambs born and have a chance to ride the horse. Everything was amazing for us. In addition, we also could pick up the eggs by ourselves and for free. Anyway, it is really a wonderful place to live there and worth to stay. We can't forget it easily.

  5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 19, 2013 NEW Hofdatun near Selfoss was the perfect getaway for my husband and me. The house was great-- It was comfortably appointed, with a serious kitchen (including a KitchenAid mixer!), a luxurious bathroom (the bathtub was huge and had jacuzzi jets), and a living room with big picture windows (=beautiful night and day views). It was nice and quiet. Location is excellent; house is very close to town of Selfoss (with two grocery stores), a wonderful woolen goods shop, and Gulfoss, Geysir and Thingvallir National Park. Hostess Thorey is the best--she's very knowledgeable and helpful.; she introduced my birdwatching husband to *the* Iceland bird book (which he later found in English) and suggested various "must-sees" within driving distance of the house and also to the south. She shared her delightful Icelandic horses, sheep (and one lamb), chickens (and their delicious eggs) and dog hosts, Snula, Tumi and Adorable Puppy. All in all, a wonderful stay. This is perhaps the nicest house and host we have ever rented. Thank you, Thorey!

  5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 28, 2013 NEW Stayed here with 3 friends for 4 days, and I would thoroughly recommend staying here! Thorey was very friendly and happy to help in whatever way. Also got us a discount on our car hire, which was very useful as a car is absolutely necessary. The house itself is spacious and clean with everything you need, and is in a great location. Reykjavik is about an hour by car and it is close to the Golden Circle. We spend one day driving all the way to Jokulsarlon lagoon, stopping off at Vik and several waterfalls and galciers on the way. This is absolutely worth the long drive and the location of the house means it is doable in a (long) day.

  The house accomodations are great & are suited for a larger group of travelers. My purpose of this trip was to horse ride & I couldnt have asked for a more perfect hostess. Thorey & I went on two rides. The second day for seven hours which was the most memorable time I have had in Iceland! It was incredible to fall asleep at night with the horses right outside the bedroom window listening to their soft "neighing" throughout the night. It was magical. Looking forward to returning.

  5 out of 5 Great place, it's a shame we could stay there only 1 night. My daughter (9) said it was the best day in her life, and she is desperate to come back next year! She loved the horses (especially the baby-horse!), the dogs, the hens, etc. The house is very spacious and very well equipped, you really feel home there. Special thanks to the owner - Thorey. She was very welcoming, showed us around, cooked dinner for us (leg of lamb - delicious!). And even took care of sending back to Reykjavik our camera that we left there. And we were really impressed to see the Russian flag on when we came to the farm! (Thorey has got it somewhere and put it on for our visit! :)

  Hofdatun, Selfoss, (374875) Date of Stay September 23, 2012 Helpful votes:0/0. Four of us booked into Thorey's place and can't say enough about how wonderful our stay was. We were initially greeted by the Canadian flag flying on the flag pole and then the owner herself. Loved spending time with the horses and the home had everything you could ever need for a comfortable and relaxing stay. The kitchen and bath are amazing. The location is a great base for many wonderful sites in Iceland. We would highly recommend this place to anyone.

  We are very happy to stay in this house for 3 days all the family (6 persons). Very good welcome, plenty of kind attentions. The place is well situated, quiet, the house is very large, very well equiped and clean. Go in then "chicken house" to have fresh eggs to prepare your breakfast A place to stay in the South-West of Iceland

  Encore un grand merci à Thorey pour son accueil exceptionnel et sa grande générosité. Sa belle maison aux prestations récentes est en pleine nature, très propre et bien tenue. Les lits sont confortables, la salle de bains est très jolie. Thorey propose aussi des repas qu'elle prépare à la demande. Nous sommes arrivés tard, la table était mise pour nous et nous avons dégusté le meilleur agneau de notre vie...Confitures maison à ne pas rater (la confiture de carotte est divine!!!). De plus les chevaux sont magnifiques, c'est un paradis pour les animaux. Une adresse inoubliable que je recommande vivement.

  We had a fantastic time here - what a brilliant home from home. Four bedrooms, dining room, really well-equipped kitchen, great lounge and a bathroom to die for!! And loads of treats from Thorey when we arrived which was so unexpected and lovely. And Thorey was amazing when another of our accomodations fell through and I called up and at very short notice she was more than happy for us to arrive a day early which I'm so grateful for - with three young children we weren't sure what we were going to do! Of all our time in Iceland my son, age 5, said this was his favourite time. He loved going to collect the eggs in the morning to cook up for breakfast. And all of the children got to ride the beautiful horses - what an experience. One of our days here it rained constantly and it was so nice to have such a cozy place to retreat to - we ventured to the supermarket for supplies and came home to cook up some food and eat delicious Icelandic cake and drink coffee while the children played. I am so, so pleased to have found this place and Thorey was just so lovely to deal with. We really hope to return and I will recommend this to anyone coming to Iceland who wants to get a real experience of this beautiful country.

  Recommended for: People with disabilities, families with young children, age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers, sightseeing.

  HomeAway You Have a Review Hofdatun is an ideal house to rent as it is in a great location. One can daytrip here to Reykjavik to the west to as far away as Jokulsarlon to the east. We can't say enough about the house and the property. It exceeded our expectations.The house was very nice,spacious, and fully equipped with everything you would need. There was also a huge movie collection to choose from after a long day of sightseeing.Thorey was a great hostess as she took our family out to the pasture to see the horses and even got one to "pose" with my 1 year old granddaughter. I would certainly stay here again if I came back to Iceland and I would highly recommend this property to anyone who is considering coming to this part of Iceland.
