This was definitely off the beaten path and we're glad we didn't have to try and find it at night on that hiway, even though the directions we had were very good. It was cozy and the bed and facilities were very comfortable and the rate was quite reasonable. We wanted to use the ceiling fan but it was covered with cobwebs and we couldn't really reach it to clean them off as it's quite a high ceiling. It should be noted that if you plan on doing anything during the day on the west side of Maui that it's a long drive back (~3+ hours) that shouldn't be taken lightly - especially at night. We had already booked a luau in Lahaina and opted to leave a day early and stay in Lahaina as opposed to driving back that late on the "Road to Hana". We never did get confirmation about whether or not the tap water could be used for drinking. We contacted the owner who told us they've always used bottled water but given what time Hana shuts down every night, this wasn't an option so we boiled all our drinking water first, just to be safe. Also, it might be a good idea to pick up grocery supplies before you arrive. At least one of the 2 grocery stores in Hana is open until 7:30pm but it is ~7 miles into town from this location.

On our trip to Maui, our best time was spent here. This was our favorite place - screw the resorts! This place was just perfect for my husband and I - plenty of room, full size kitchen, grill, plenty of utensils - everything was perfect! Although this is a few miles outside of Hana, we had plenty of time to hit all of the best sites in and around Hana - Black Sand Beach (Wai'anapanapa State Park), Red Sand Beach, Ohe'o Gulch and just about everything in between. The cottage is just far enough off the road that you hear no road noise, but it's pretty easy to find (once you know what you're looking for) even at night. Pay close attention to the mile markers, it's pretty easy to skip a few enjoying the scenery or paying attention to the road! If you see the "CONUT" sign, as you're heading toward Hana - you've gone too far (we giggled every time we passed this). There are two general stores in Hana, so in case you've forgotten anything, you can buy it here - but you're better off paying cheaper prices in Kahului near the airport (so come with a full tank of gas). The cottage does come equipped with oil, salt, pepper, steak seasoning, about two or three jars of mustard, tin foil, shrink wrap - so no need to pick up basics. Falling asleep watching the little lizards walk on the outside of the glass was so cool and waking up to the rain each morning was really awesome too. We felt pretty lucky to have found this gem off the Hana Hwy, Mahalo Amanda and family for making this place available for adventurers like us!!

Wonderful location close to Hana but far enough away to give you the blissful feeling of being miles away from anything touristy. When asked to describe the cottage we called is our Hana jungle cottage.Nestled on the side of a mountain surrounded by flowering wild foliage, with a running stream right outside our Lani, and a ocean view this is truly a RR hideaway. The cottage is clean and well kept. A few suggestions stop in Paia about 15 mins out of Li hue, there is a great grocery store called Mana Foods (from the outside it looks questionable) they have great fresh seafood and produce. But buy your sundries in town at K Mart, or one of the big box stores. Remember bottled water you'll need it for the beach and hiking. Also get a rental vehicle with a high clearance as the private Road/Driveway can get challenging if it has been raining. Wifi is there but as in all tropical and secluded settings is spotty at best. But remember this is suppose to be a vacation. The owners are a pleasure to work with. We would definitely stay here next time we are in Hana. Aloha

We enjoyed the peaceful, quiet, rain forest like setting of this studio apartment. It had everything we needed and was a pleasant stay. Close to parks, beaches, and the Hana Highway. We even got to see a Monk Seal on the beach resting! It was very clean. We would recommend this studio to anyone. We loved counting the Geekos on the outside walls at night.

The cottage is cute and as pictured and it was wonderful to be able to explore the Hana side at a much more leisurely pace! A few warnings, at the time of our stay the driveway was quite rough (but there was equipment and rocks, so it may be in progress of getting repaired), we were upgraded to an SUV so this was not a problem, but a compact car may have issues getting to the cabin. We were not able to connect to the wifi and neither the owners nor next door renter was able to provide the passcode. The next door renter was very friendly and even provided her personal corkscrew for our stay. If staying for a long period, plan ahead there really is not much in Hana, few groceries, no laundry, but the road side stands have great food and fresh vegetables and fruits - we especially recommend Hana Health and Coconut Glenn's. This is a great place to unplug and relax for a few days!

This spot is just 7miles short of Hana, right off the highway, but secluded up the hill. If you are looking for a jungle surrounded place to shower, eat and sleep then this is your place. It has everything you need, and is well kept. The only complaint (and it was a major one) was the smell. It was beyond musky when we opened the door, and the linoleum floor seemed to be off gassing. It was nearly unbearable. I am not sure if no one was there before us for a while, or if it is like this all the time. We opened all the windows and left for a while to let it air out. There is a dehumidifier which we ran as well. Other than this all was fine. The bed comfortable, spacious deck, and a sweet little view of the ocean.

The two nights i stayed here were surely the highlight of my 8 day Maui trip. This is just about 10 mins drive from Hana. This is also very close to Nahiku market place, which has excellent places to eat and a lovely coffee shop. This is a nice cozy cabin. The bed was great. Kitchen was well equipped. The lanai was awesome with great views of the rainforest and ocean on one side. Right outside is a stall which sells coconut bread, which was awesome. I would highly recommend this place for people who want to spend a few nights in Hana.

The place is nicer than I expected, I was a bit concerned once you can not see much on the pictures. We didn't want to spend much so it was a great choice based on the price. I would stay there again to save money. The bed is super comfortable, the bed sheets were first quality and sleep with the sound of the stream was awesome. There is a nice and big balcony. There is an dehumidifier that keeps things dry, a must have. The bathroom is fine, loads of fresh towels, new shower curtain. It was really clean when we got there. The bad part was, the window's glasses look dirty, I know they were not cuz I tried to clean it.. but didn't look nice. The floor is a tired vinyl.. kind of stained. The stairs to the loft, that you are not going to be using, looks like from a building site. There are rests of rebuilding under the house, so when you are in the garden you can see it. There is not much character going on. But it has a lot of potential. I believe the place hasn't been a vacation rental and the owner just got into the business. The place was recently painted, with time she will keep improving. At the end I was really happy about my choice, is not perfect but that's why you are paying less comparing to the other cottages around. I would stay there again!
