I was responsible for booking this location for a leadership meeting of the company I work at, so it was incredibly important to me that Buck Run Lodge was a positive experience for everyone. As soon as my co-workers started arriving, they were struck with the beauty of the lodge and the view. We almost immediately took a walk out on the 40 acres up to the stand of Oak trees on the hill. The location was just beautiful. The lodge itself was perfectly clean and ready for our arrival. It smelled fresh and clean and was ready to go. Our team was able to comfortably meet each day and there was enough room to mix things up. We met in the meeting/dining room and out on the deck, and as team members needed to take calls they moved to the living room or out on the deck. The WiFi is provided via a Verizon MiFi device. It would work well for a few devices, but when we all tried to connect it couldn't handle all the connections. We knew this ahead of time, so those of us with Verizon just tethered to our cell phones. The connection was surprisingly fast as LTE was available at the house. However, there was almost no AT&T coverage at the lodge which affected three people on our team. (I had Verizon, so it was fine for me :) The lodge provided three Kayaks for our usage, and I got to go out on the pond with a co-worker and enjoy paddling around. My other co-workers repeatedly used the walking trails to get fresh air throughout our time at the lodge. We got to use the fire pit one of the nights as well, and that was really fun. Perhaps the highlight of the whole stay were the two meals we had the Lodge cater for us. The menus were incredibly fresh and geared toward local Iowa food. Kathie is a great chef, and wonderful hostess and her husband Jim also made our stay wonderful. Needless to say, I felt incredibly satisfied to be credited with finding this amazing place to stay. I can't wait until I have opportunity to rent out the Buck Run Lodge again and let other friends and family share in its offerings.Recommended for: Families with young children, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, sightseeing.

We stayed here this past Memorial Day weekend. We picked this place for a family gathering of sorts. Also because it's noted that it is accessible for those with mobility issues. (I exchanged emails back and forth with the owners prior to booking to make sure (she indicated that the shower would be accessible for my 85 yr father who has mobility issues. However, we found this was not exactly the case upon arrival. Fortunately, we were not staying here for more than a couple nights so this did not impact us as it would have if we had stayed longer. I'll break it down for you. If you customarily book ADA units. The bathroom here is wide enough for a wheelchair and there is a separate low sink. However, there is no "roll into" type shower on this property. Also no safety bars in shower or near toilet. One would have to be able to get themselves into this shower on their own and stand etc. No sitting chair would fit inside this shower. Also, the hallway to the lower level beds that someone with mobility issues maybe using, are down a narrow hallway and those two bedrooms are quite small. If you use a walker you'll be fine, if you use a wheelchair you may need help I imagine getting around in the small rooms. Or moving the extra furniture out to create more space. Other than that, this property was perfect for our family gathering. The great room and the wrap around deck are perfect to enjoy inside or outside. We did wonder why such a small grill outside considering this is perfect for big gatherings. We unfortunately did not get to use any of the grill or the fire pit (for smores) because it was very windy when we were there. The other thing to note is that you may have a difficult time finding this place because the signage for the road is very small and our gps (as well as others' just blanked out before we arrived at the location) we were literally about a quarter of a mile away when it did this. The house is adequately stocked with all the essentials you will not need anything! We ate at a couple local restaurants as well. We loved seeing and hearing nature all around us. In the mornings and evenings we enjoyed seeing deer and local birds, geese. Dealing with the owners was very easy and they always responded to my emails and questions. Wifi worked fine. Oh and there is NO television!!! (Which we thought was awesome but my mother in law.. not so much) Who needs a TV?? When you have such a lovely setting?!!Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, families with teenagers.

A beautiful setting with deer, fowl, and a beaver to watch, the deck, the "great room" and the artful decor and tasteful decorating were a perfect setting to reunite our family.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0
