  From the moment we landed in Puerto Plata we knew that is was going to be a great vacation. The weather was sunny and beautiful the whole time. Sam's home was UNBELIEVABLE! The landscaping was gorgeous and the pool, OH MY GOSH, the pool was perfect temperature. The staff, Jose, Nelly and Gary were very wonderful. Jose took us anywhere we needed to go. Instead of going through or booking any tours, Jose as in "Jose Tours" can do it all, on your own time. Jose took us to Blue Lagoon Dudu, Playa Diamante, Playa Grande (where we had lunch on the beach) and 27 Charcos (27 Waterfalls). Definitely recommend this, and Jose speaks Spanish and English! Nelly is a wonderful cook. Definitely let her make homemade Dominican dinners and tasty breakfast for you. Nelly speaks very little English, so its fun to utilize your spanish skills with her. Her son Gary lives on the first floor (there are 3), he keeps himself scarce so you can have privacy. He is very nice and only speaks Spanish. There is a beautiful private beach, Playa Laguna, just a few minutes of walking down the street from the house. There are a few grocery stores not to far from the house. And we did our shopping for souvenirs in Puerto Plata (better prices there, than Sosua). I HIGHLY RECOMMEND that you stay at Sam's place. The home is in a safe neighborhood and couldn't of stayed in a more gorgeous home. Thank you Sam for letting us stay in your home. Next time we vacation there, were bringing some family or friends. Just to show them what they are missing out on. Thanks for the memories!

  We arrived from the Santo Domingo Airport and on Thursday night and stayed in Boca Chica. The next day we rented a car from Avis in the airport, and drove the 4 hours to get to the house. If you choose to do this it's much cheaper but make sure that you don't miss the right after the toll booth it sneaks up on you if your not carefully paying attention. Once we were on that rode it was fairly easy to get to the home. Jose met us at the gas station up the rode from the home and showed us how to get there. Upon arrival we met with the house cleaner and her son the pool guy. They were extremely friendly and we were shocked with how beautiful the home was. It was absolutely breathtaking and Sam (the owner) has literally thought of everything you will need on vacation. It was a home away from home! Included movies, coffee pot, fresh water, cell phone, etc. The neighborhood was as beautiful as the house and the security were friendly and helpful as well. Nelly (cleaning lady) made us breakfast and offered to make us lunch and dinner as long as groceries were provided. She was a doll and cleaned the house daily for us. Her son was also very helpful and made himself scarce, so we still felt like we had privacy even though he lived on the 1st floor. The house was everything that we wanted and will definitely be going back and renting again very soon! This is the best way to vacation if you are looking for privacy and home luxuries that you would not find in a hotel or all inclusive. It is so much more worth it to rent this place! We had the time of our lives and everywhere we went we felt safe and didn't worry, even though we had our own transportation and were new to the island. I would recommend this home and area to anyone! Cabarete reminded us of Miami beach at night time and Sousa was perfect for snorkeling. As well as el encuentro that was amazing for surfing! We give the home, area, and staff 5 stars hands down!!!! Sam (the owner) was very helpful and nice. We couldn't have as for a better trip and like I said we will definitely be booking again soon.

It is great to find someone else who loves the area as much as I do. Nelly said that you guys were great and very kind.   Villa De La Mariposa was everything we hoped for and more! What a beautiful place. The interior was luxurious, it had a kitchen with every possible amenity as well as a gas grill on the terrace, and the master bedroom and bathroom were just gorgeous. It was spotless inside and out much to the pride of Nellie (the house keeper), and Gary, her son (who maintains the pool and garden). The villa is within walking distance to the beach and a short drive to Sosua. The town has a well stocked supermarket, as well as all the little beach front shops (remember to haggle prices, it is expected. Never pay the first price offered!) There are many restaurants in Sosua and in nearby Cabarete and activities for all ages to enjoy. Sam (the owner) was a wealth of information before we got there.........thanks Sam! Would I recommend this villa to my family and friends? Absolutely! can't wait to go back:)

  Fabulous stay! Felt at home and spoiled at the same time. Beautiful accommodations with comfortable beds and hot showers with great water pressure. Spent down time floating in the pool or out on the balcony absorbing the gorgeous views. Staff went about work quietly and efficiently, my laundry was folded neatly when I got home! As dog lovers, Victor and Sadie were wonderful and spent time lounging by the pool with us. Close to Sosua, short car drive away. Walked around the area and met lovely people. Security staff were friendly and helpful. Only negative was drive from road to villa was rough(lots of potholes) but did not effect our stay. Owner was very helpful and approachable as was his staff. Would recommend this villa and do plan on staying again.

  My family and I loved Sam's house, staff and Sosua. Sam was extremely helpful to work with throughout the whole booking process. His staff were so much fun to be around. The house and landscaping was beautiful. The 5 minute walk to the beach was convenient and the beach is gorgeous. We had a wonderful family trip and would highly recommend Sam's house to anyone.

  Recommended for: Tourists without a car, families with young children, age 55+, families with teenagers.

  My family and I had a wonderful time at Sam's villa. Sam was a complete gem to work with the entire time. He was available by phone or email to answer any questions I had prior to our trip. Sam's staff (Nelly, Jose, Gary) were fantastic and a great way to experience authentic Dominican culture. Jose was willing to drive to Santiago, 1 1/2 drive from Sam's house to get us from the airport, which saved us a lot of money having cheaper flights from MN. Jose was a wonderful driver and we used him to get groceries, get to excursions and see some of the beautiful beaches. He was always on-time to get us and gave us a lot of recommendations of places to see around Sosua. The home is gorgeous with beautiful views looking out onto the lush landscaping and ocean. The local beach is about 5 minutes from Sam's house and it was very secluded and pretty. Wonderful trip with my family. Thanks Sam!
