  This condo is perfectly located. The farmers market across the street was great, along with the park/beach practically next door. We felt away from the resorts, yet close enough to eat, shop, and run on the path along them. The neighbors were very friendly too. The photos of the condo and surroundings pretty much nail it. The condo was very clean and everything worked properly. By far, our favorite thing to do was watch the humpback whales off the observation deck. We highly recommend to get out on the water with a whale watching cruise. This condo was a great place to come home to after the Road to Hana, the Haleakala sunrise, and all of our daily adventures.

  At first sight Maui Sands looks pretty run-down. The buildings are freshly painted, but very dated. The grounds have mature landscaping that is well taken care of. The inside of our condo had been remodeled very recently and was gorgeous. We loved being just a few steps from the ocean and spent our early morning coffee time watching for whales. All in all our experience was very positive.

Maui Sands is a resort that was built in a local style quite a few years ago. She has been constantly kept in repair and has just undergone a full roof replacement, pool renovation and now the parking lot is being re sealed and striped and the whole complex is being repainted again (to name but a few). Owners have just increased fees to do even more cosmetic work to keep the local flavor and charm of our older more traditional resort for all our guests enjoyment.   This condo is beautiful and the location was wonderful. A lookout deck was steps away from the lanai where we spent mornings and evenings humpback whale watching. There is a farmer's market, fish market, beach park and a coffee house all within walking distance. Honokawai is close enough to Lahaina and Kaanapali to enjoy but far enough to get away from all the tourists. We really enjoyed our time here and the owner was such a pleasure to work with.

  Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

  The owners were a pleasure to deal with. Contact, email exchanges, and then done, so easy. When a person decides to go to Maui they have a mental image of paradise and try to apply it to the island. Usually reality can’t meet up to expectations and at the risk of doing so my experience again surprised and delighted me. Maui is a beautiful island, with a nice mixture of guests and residents to give it a real laid back feel. Amenities are ridiculously close and available (my wife is a vegetarian and there is an organic farmers market across the street from the resort, cognizant that there are a lot of tourists wandering around. The beaches are amazing are and just down from Maui Sands (a nice walk) you have access to parasailing, surfing, kayaking, and a boardwalk ….. The unit is very nicely decorated with a modern interior and appliances. Approximately 40 feet from the sea wall, the sound of waves crashing is a constant white noise that is soothing and isolates you from inane chatter. The unit feels accessible with beach chairs, beach towels, beach mats, spices and utensils to make you feel immediately settled, your sole concern being food and relaxation. There is a pool and laundry facilities on the premises, which is really convenient if you plan on an adventurous, outdoor vacation. The owner was very responsive and wanted to ensure we enjoyed ourselves and were relaxed. We were and had an incredible time. Mahalo!

  My husband and I stayed at this condo to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The attention to detail was evident in the decor. The creative use of mirrors gave a "right on the ocean" feel to the unit even though it was a few yards' walk to the beach. The kitchen was modern and well-stocked, and the tile throughout was a lovely touch. The pictures on the website accurately depicted the look and feel of the unit. The only drawback was that the parking was not in the lot directly next to the unit, but it was not a terribly long walk from the car. We would definitely stay here again. The snorkeling here was not as amazing as that at Honolua Bay or Kapalua, but those are a very short drive away. It was also great to be within close walking distance to an ABC store, a fish market, and some lovely local "plate" lunch restaurants. Many mahalos for sharing your slice of paradise!

  This unit is the perfect home away from home. My husband and I had the best vacation ever and felt at home in this quiet community. We loved the laid back atmosphere and old Hawaii feel at Maui Sands. If you want a beautifully appointed condo, a quiet place to lounge by the pool, and great food within walking distance, their really isn't a better place to be in West Maui. The remodel in this unit is fantastic with all the comforts that you would expect from a more expensive resort. We loved that we could start our mornings "at home" and pack up food for the day, and return to this peaceful place after a day at the beach. If you are looking for a low-key place, that is close to nightlife, beaches, and great food, this is it!

  We arrived in Maui with great anticipation to get out of the Seattle rain. Well we picked the perfect spot due to the condo owners as well as the other people around us that we're either on vacation them selves or actually lived there. The unit is exactly like the description that is listed only much better!!!!! Very clean, comfortable with everything that you need . We really appreciated that we had boogie boards and beach chairs which we used pretty much everyday traveling to all the awesome beaches that are so near by. The patio area over looking the surf was a great spot to meet others for cocktails and watch the beautiful sunsets. My only issue was that our vacation was not long enough. We definitely be back next year. Thanks Gay and Doug for sharing your lovely home.
