The VT getaway is an 8 acre farmhouse estate with architect-designed additions to the original 1840 home. Enjoy skiing at nearby Sugarbush and Mad River Glen, fall foliage, mountain views, extensive bike and hiking trails nearby, tennis on our private court, swimming in tepool, dinner and grilling in the back porch. A pond on one side of the property and stream on the other are pleasant features. The house offers two wood burning fireplaces located in the large open kitchen and living room and a year round outdoor hot tub. Great for families, gatherings of friends and couples. We are not a typical rental with regular availability, as this is our family's vacation home, so each season we rent only a few long weekends or for up to 2 weeks on ocassion.
The main home has 7 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. Bedrooms are set up the following way: #1(King), #2 (Full) #3 (2 Singles -- cannot be made into a king) #4 (Queen plus 2 singles) #5 (Single plus short Full) #6 (Single) #7 (Single plus child bed). An additional queen bed is available in another section of the home in the guest suite at an additional $100 per night.
The large cook's kitchen is complete with a 6 burner Viking stove, two ovens, two Bosch dishwashers and two Sub Zero refrigerators. There is a long refectory dining table and additional table and island allow a variety of seating options and views. Large bay windows in the kitchen/dining room look out to lawn and mountains. There is a large fireplace in the kitchen/dining area.
There are four separate well-appointed, comfortable living room areas on the main floor – the family room with a large flat screen TV, digital cable with HD features, and DVD player; the living room with a wood burning fireplace, wrap around couch and stereo system; the billiard/games room with a pool table and a door leading out to the hot tub; and an office/seating area with a desk, comfortable couch and period piece piano. The first floor bathroom has a full bath/steam shower and separate dressing room.
The front entryway to the main home has ample storage for coats and ski gear. The washer and dryer units are conveniently located on the first floor of the home. The driveway parks up to six cars. The heated garage has a ping pong table, some work out equipment including weights, exercise balls and yoga mats.
The home is set back from the road on 8 acres, surrounded by mountains and farmland. It has a pond with seasonal wildlife including ducks, heron and wild turkey. A wide brook runs the length of the property and feeds into the Mad River. An open air fire pit is next to the brook and the tennis court at the end of the expansive back yard has an enclosed seating/viewing cabin. The large lawn is ideal for croquet or badminton; two outdoor basketball hoops make for easy pick-up games. The property is planted with pear, apple and plum trees, blueberry, strawberry and raspberry bushes.
The furnished outdoor spaces include a side deck with tables and chairs; a lounge area near the hot tub, and ample space around the pool. The screened in porch has a gas grill, a dining table, wicker couches and chairs. The entire pool area is brick and gets great light throughout the day. At dusk, the sun sets toward the back of the property, making the pool or screened in porch a lovely afternoon and evening setting.

About the owner: Our family has owned this beautiful home for 16 years. Originally from the New England area, we have four grown children who have lived in many parts of the country but always feel drawn back to Vermont. The Waitsfield area is a wonderful place to visit any time of year.
We bought the house because of its unique combination of luxury amenities such as the pool, hot tub, tennis court, grilling porch, sleeping capacity –authentic features including the original 1840 wood burning fireplaces and wood floors, area views, fruit trees, pond and stream, and easy access to year round recreation, from cross country skiing to downhill at Mad River Glen and Sugarbush Mountains, both 15 minutes drives from the house, to kayaking, road and mountain biking, hiking, fishing, and more.
While you’re here, it’s easy to eat every meal at home with the Viking stove to cook on and the two ovens to keep food warming. You can also head into town to the original home of American Flatbread Pizza (now sold in Whole Foods), and other charming restaurants. Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream Factory in Stowe is about a 25 minute drive away.
Why the Owner Chose Waitsfield: The Mad River Valley is a beautiful, charming and historic area. There are adventures year round, as shows in this feature in the New York Times travel section (use their website search to find the story and photographs). From hiking the Long Trail and mountain biking country roads in the summer to fall foliage and summer through autumn farmers markets, to skiing in the winter, it's a gorgeous place to get away with family, friends or colleagues.
The Unique Benefits at this Farmhouse: Our property is nestled into Green Mountain area farmland and wilderness, providing a quiet retreat yet only 2 1/2 miles to the Old Village of Waitsfield. There are many activities to choose from at our vacation home -- ping pong, pool, the hot tub, country walks, and bike rides from the property. The area features kayaking, snowshoeing and cross country skiing, and fly fishing just minutes away.
