Welcome to the River Retreat, located in the redwood forest on the San Lorenzo River, 15 minutes from Pasatiempo Golf Course, and 15 minutes from Santa Cruz, 45 minutes from San Jose airport, 1 hour from San Francisco airport.
Located in the river valley, it is only a short driving distance from both the cities and important site seeing. Surfing, wineries, golf, parks and other sites are minutes away. This recently remodeled cottage is tranquil, serene and peaceful. Nature is at your door, and there are three decks for viewing: one overlooks the river and one is covered, so you can enjoy it rain or shine. There is fishing for salmon in back, when in season (usually January and February). The river attracts all kinds of creatures: birds, ducks (yes, those wood ducks in the tree 30 feet up over the river and right outside your bedroom window), squirrels, deer, raccoons, coyotes, and occasional humans with kayaks or canoes. The beautiful decorated cottage has new carpet, hardwood, and marble floors, brand new kitchen every appliance needed to cook a gourmet meal. The two bedrooms each have very comfortable queen size beds. There are two large flat screen TVs with cable, the fastest Wi-Fi, and BBQ. Summer, winter, spring or fall, this home is a unique getaway, quite comfortable, yet one with the forest, river and nature

We had excellent communication with the property manager and setting up the rental was very easy. The house was very comfortable, clean and well maintained. Beds are comfortable and the shower is great! Be sure to follow the directions given by the property manager - a Garmin will mis-lead you. We especially enjoyed our visit to Big Basin Redwoods State Park. The communities of Felton-Ben Lomand are busy, but when you are at the house you feel as if you are a million miles away in the woods. The front yard has a very nice deck and landscaping. A perfect place to read a book and relax. The only thing that we did not expect was the proximity of the house next door - but the people living there were quiet and did not bother us.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, girls getaway, adventure seekers, age 55+, sightseeing.

We loved our time at this lovely private home in October. When we arrived we immediately felt pampered by the beautiful, cozy home in the woods. The garden was such a treat to enjoy! We spent many nights out on the deck enjoying the evening and the quiet. Surrounded by redwoods and situated on a river, just a few minutes from restaurants, grocery stores and basic necessities. Some of our favorite perks a gorgeous rosewood floor, beautiful Indian inlaid table, espresso maker, large flat screen TV, satellite, hammock, very comfortable beds, well-stocked kitchen and marble tiled bathroom. Highly recommend visiting the Henry Cowell Redwood Forest. Also enjoyed surfing in Santa Cruz, hitting restaurants in San Jose, hiking Mount Tamp. The owners were super helpful and gracious. If you're looking for a quiet, secluded escape, this is the right place!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, girls getaway, families with teenagers, age 55+, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thanks for your recent review. Our future guests will benefit from them indeed.

We used this cottage for a week this Summer. very cozy and nicely decorated. Very clean. Beds were so comfortable and great view of the river from the bedroom. Great landscaping and garden full of beautiful flowers. Close to the beach, shopping and to Santa Cruz boardwalk. We came into San Jose airport and the directions were very clear. Booking this place was simple and easy. Very good price and good value for the money. We spent quite a lot of time on the decks, especially the one overlooking the river. Felt like we were in the trees. Don’t miss Henry Cowell State park on Hwy 9. Amazing redwoods. Walk along Cliff drive in Santa Cruz... incredible views. Play Golf at Pasatiempo. Wow! and best of all the wine tasting. Weather was perfect. We have to return. Thanks so much.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, girls getaway, adventure seekers, sightseeing.

Me and my husband just recently stayed for a week at this quaint home by the river. It was a wonderful peaceful getaway for us from the valley. We loved going to the beach and visiting the local vine yards and walking around the neighborhood. The facilities are very modern and the kitchen was very convenient to cook our evening meals. The view of the flowing river from the bedroom was very nice. We also enjoyed some shopping at the local downtown area. Overall we had a wonderful relaxing stress free weeks stay here and will be coming again soon.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, girls getaway, age 55+, sightseeing.
