We arrived in Oak Bluffs to celebrate our anniversary. We booked at the last minute because of the 80 degree weather. The location was ideal, right on the main street, but quiet enough for our two kids to sleep. We enjoyed sitting on the balcony that overlooked the street, sipping Corona's and wishing summer would not end. The apartment was spacious, recently renovated and very clean. It was easy to access the unit and the owner was easy to contact. We loved exploring the vineyard- edgartown, sunset at menemsha beach, carousel in town, gayhead and any beach we could find.

To ANYONE who is thinking about staying here,,,, DO IT!!! I stayed for the week of September 11th, 2011, to celebrate my 56th birthday. It was right in town, perfect for having no car. I could walk everywhere, and took the bus system to everywhere in the island. My stay was perfect!! I stayed in Unit #1. Wonderful light, comfortable bed, great kitchen, local grocery store across the way. Sweet balcony to people watch. The apartment was really clean and Larry was really, really helpful whenever I needed him. Always answered the phone, or got back to me right away. There is a great Thai place down the street towards the ocean. I'm really picky about where I stay, and I couldn't have asked for a better place. Do not hesitate to stay at one of Larry's apartments!! Truly, they are gems!! And so is he!! Nancy Lee Melmon, Sedona, AZ

We had a great time at the Historic Arcade apartments. The unit was clean and close to everything. It's less than a 5 minute walk to the town beach and ferry terminal and there are tons of restaurants just downstairs. It's also only a few minutes walk to the harbor where you can eat, get drinks, or rent a bike, car, etc. We stayed on the third floor and you could barely hear the bar downstairs but as soon as you turn the AC on, you don't hear it at all. So convenient and reasonably priced, you really can't get a better deal if you're looking to be right in the middle of town.

First of all I never post reviews. Ever. We were so happy with the place I emailed the landlord our first day to book it for the same week next year. I go to MV for a summer vacation every year and I finally found the perfect rental. You cannot pick a better location. You are ON Circuit Ave, huge balcony overlooking the street. The apartment is immaculate, much larger than I expected and has all the modern comforts you have in your own home. Never been more satisfied with a rental and I look forward to renting again.

The arcade building apartment was a wonderful place to stay for the week! The apartment was beautiful, spacious, clean, and comfortable. Two wonderful decks with a great view of the water and Oak Bluffs made this a wonderful hang out/ relaxing spot. The location is also superb for someone who likes to be in the heart of the action and do some people watching. The apartment is in walking distance of dozens of great shops and restaurants as well as the beach, pier, and free parking. The owner was extremely accommodating and friendly. Overall the whole experience was great! Thank you :)

If you like to be right in the middle of the excitement, this is definitely the rental for you. We stayed in the "Penthouse" located on the third floor. The stairs were not a problem for us, but could be if you have trouble walking. We loved the 2 porches, and we cooked dinner using the barbque grill. This is a great location for touring Oak Bluffs. Parking was a bit of a problem, but we were able to find parking by the gazebo every night. It's a short walk to the apartment, but you get to pass back Door Donuts which serves hot donuts at midnight so it was not much of a problem. The kitchen was well stocked even with soap, paper towels, some spices and even some beer and wine was left in the refrigerator! I Make your ferry reservations early. I was glad we had a car to tour the island, although there is public transportation and lots of rental cars, bikes and motorcycles. The island is much bigger than I thought. I would definitely recommend this rental for people who like to be in the middle of the fun.

We loved being right in town. It's really convenient to be right across the street from the grocery store. We stayed for two nights and didn't bring a car - we just walked a few blocks from the dock to the rental, and then caught the bus to the neighboring towns. Our nine year old son recommends Mad Martha's highly. For a fun activity with kids, check out the alpaca farm.

Also, it very close to the beach, ferry etc. Larry is great to work with. Thank you for allowing dogs. Obi had a fantastic time. We will rent again,

We look forward to staying in the Arcade Building every year! The units are always clean, well maintained and has everything you need for a weeks stay. It's really a plus not to have to bring a lot of stuff to the island. It's located in a central spot of Oak Bluffs and everything footsteps away, no need for a car. Plus, the balcony is the best place to sip your morning coffee, enjoy evening hors d'oeuvres, and people watching. Can't wait until next time!

Just spent our third vacation at the Arcade. Really enjoyed the new kitchen stuff and the a/c! It was really hot while we were there. Close to the Tabernacle and the 35th anniversary JAWS documentary. We have come to consider #1 at the Arcade our Vineyard place! What more can I say.

This was my family's first time at the vineyard and we could not have expected a better time. We have two kids and wanted easy access to beach and town. We got both at this place. Even if it is in the middle of town, it was not noisy at all. The decks are perfect places to read and relax. Comfortable walk to the beach. Facilities were clean, and neat.

The Historic Arcade is one the best places to stay in Martha's Vineyard. I've been renting unit #1 for the past 4 summers and have always had a terrfic stay, the people watching from the balcony is amazing! The apartment couldn't be closer to all the amenties of Oak Bluffs, everything is steps away. The place is taken care of with great love and I love seeing all the new updates that are added each year. Looking foward to next year!

What a nice space to enjoy the island! Very accessible to all that you need for food, entertainment and fun while on the island. Not the mention the well kept-comfortable space. However if you are there during peak time the music from the local clubs, can be a little annoying during the nite. Otherwise, I loved it!

Being in the center of Oak Bluffs and able to take early morning walks to the beach followed by an "honest" breakfast less then a block away followed by some reading on the porch overlooking main street catching a glimps of the ocean is what makes this stay so relaxing. The accomodations were absolutely top notch. Comfortable beds, great living room, with all the amenities, with loft beds accesible of the living room so that you can either be romantic (for two) or off course go as a group with enough space for all and funky electronic locks on the door!! Where we stayed had two porches and if you wanted you could use the grill that is available on one of the porches but who wants to grill when you have several restaurants a stone's throw away. I suppose if you did stay a week, the well stocked Kitchen and grill will be used. We did have a car and even though there was no designated parking area in this "historic building", we never had an issue with parking the car overnight. We went when the season was just about to start, but I suppose in full season the crowds would be more and with two theatres down the street a week's stay would be advisable. Make sure that you visit the "back door" donuts at least once. They are located across the street down one block to your right. The lines are quite long around 10:30 PM!!! Definitely Highly recommended!!! Enjoy!!

I highly recommend this property if you’re in search of a convenient, clean and centrally-located place to stay. I know a lot of properties claim to be in a perfect location but this one holds true. It’s right on the main street in town and is seconds or at the most minutes from anything you need – groceries, bus stops, beaches, bikes, fantastic restaurants, post office, pharmacy, etc. Larry was very accessible and pleasant to deal with. This was my first visit to the Vineyard and I’d definitely stay here again - it helped make for an overall wonderful experience.

his two-bedroom apartment is located in the heart of Oak Bluffs, just a short walk from the ferry terminal and beach and only steps from the Tabernacle and cottage community. The apartment is spacious, immaculate, and fully equipped for a vacation stay. A full second-story covered porch allows for unlimited "people watching". If you can tolerate the street noise, and occasional music from downstairs, this is the perfect location to enjoy Oak Bluffs and Martha's Vineyard.
Owner response:Just clarifying that the guest is referring to Unit #1 on the second floor which is closest to the street with one of the best "people watching" spots in town. Other units have less street sounds.

Charming bright loft apartment with two (!) private porches and windows with sea view. The living room is lovely, flooded with light, with a high ceiling - somehow this doesn't come across on the picture very well, but trust me. The main bedroom is light and cosy & lovely; everything well taken care of and well-equipped. Great shower; nice, clean, fully-equipped kitchen. The second bedroom is a loft which our kids loved - but neither the loft nor the porches would work for small children, say 5 or under). The house is a historic building with a lot of character - watch out for the amazing staircase in the entrance hall!; The building is right on the historic main street, and you can sit on the porch and watch people in the street below. On the other hand, the bedroom and main porch face onto the quiet gingerbread houses framed by trees, so it all feels terribly idyllic to the city dweller.... Great for families - sandy beaches with magic shells ready for the picking a 5 minute walk away; the Flying Horse Caroussel ditto; lots of green space where even small children can roam freely 2 mins. away. Plenty of eateries and enough good ice cream places to try a new one every day. We were charmed and completely won over. The kids wanted to move in permanently, and so did we, actually.

Larry, Just wanted to let you know we had a great time in your unit during our stay in September. We LOVED the huge deck facing the street and the central location of the house(right in the middle of the action). We came over on the ferry and relied on public transit system. Totally easy - no car required! As for the unit, it was perfect. Very obvious that the building is well cared for; it was immaculate from the foyer all the way to the very back of the cabinets! One word of advice for future renters: since unit 1 is kind of above Sharky's(YUM!), a little noise can be heard at night. Easily remedied by running the fan on the AC unit. We slept like rocks after figuring that out. Again, thanks for the great weekend - we couldn't have asked for better accommodations and look forward to coming back next year!

The penthouse was a very groovy pad for this trio. It was quite obvious even to the most non-discerning eye that you had taken great pains to take excellent care of it. It had been noticeably modernized, beautifully maintained, and kept very clean.Larry, this was hands down the best family vacation we have ever had, even better than that in Bora Bora! We felt right at home because of all the creature comforts and all the conveniences available to us right at our fingertips. The convenience of a grocery store directly across the street was unequivocally invaluable since cooking for our toddler was a necessity as restaurant food did not always appeal to her developing palate. Conveniences extended to knowing we could satisfy our very late night munchies with great Mexican food from downstairs, to not having to rent a car every day due to easy accessibility of the very reliable VTA buses, to all the unexpected bathroom amenities, to the beds being very comfortable, matching the very comfort of the whole apartment and its location and environs. This list is as bottomless as Linda Jean’s Restaurant’s bottomless coffee, so I’ll have to stop now! The serene sunrise reflecting off the calm, cool waters every morning was the icing on this swell cake.Thank you so much for your generous hospitality!

Our family with teen-agers spent a week in Apt 3 and enjoyed the convenience of the in-town location with an easy walk to the beach. Circuit Ave. and the parking lot behind the building can get very noisy at times, but we live in a very rural area so didn't mind being in the thick of things. We biked all over the island and only used our car once to take a day trip down the beautiful Long Point conservation area. We'll be back!

Our family of five stayed in unit 1 for a week. There is a BR with a queen bed, perfect for the parents, and another BR with a double and a twin bed, perfect for our 3 kids. The LR is spacious and comfortable. The kitchen has everything you need, so does the bathroom, down to the towel hooks for everyone. Nothing beats the deck with BBQ, table, and chairs. Well thought through apartment, fresh and clean, for a relaxing stay in the heart of town, close to everything. There is no parking included, but we always found a space a block away or so, even in the busiest season! Our kids loved the freedom to explore the shops and to have access to entertainment (arcades, carousel) in a safe environment. We will definitely be back!!!

Each year is nicer than the year before, and being in an in-town location has so many benefits. It feels like being at the center of the action (from a locational perspective) while being in a well-appointed sanctuary. Our 4-yr-old already has fond memories of MV based on what she calls "the apartment".

We could people watch, cook dinner, have breakfast and watch the sunset which is breath taking. The building itself is comfortable and cozy and extremely well taken care of. The Vineyard itself is an amazing place to be. Make sure to check out Lola's for some great R&B and Jazz music and Smokin Bones for ribs to die for!

We just returned from a stay in Unit 1 and found it to be a delight! Not only was the unit spacious, comfortable, and lovely, but it had a wonderful view for people watching from the balcony. The location was ideal! We walked to the beach, restaurants, shops, and the Tabernacle for several nights entertainment. Can't wait to come back!
