Charming Ocean Front Duplex with Incredible View
Year Purchased: 2001
Why the Owner Chose Private Homes
The Victorian downtown, beautiful beaches, not wall to wall high rises like other areas of Florida, friendly people and this particular property as close on the beach as you can get on the island.
The Unique Benefits at this Cottage
Drinking coffee and watching dolphins and sunrises on the ocean.
Owner's Map of Private Homes
Hi, I grew up going to Amelia Island and always wanted a place there. My whole family loves it and that includes the dog, Jazz, our border collie. I think Amelia is unique because of the victorian downtown and the beautiful wide beaches. I love biking on the island (the Katie Ride For Life is great!), swimming in the ocean, beach walking and enjoying coffee on the deck in the morning watching the dolphins or horses going by. Amelia is the last island in Florida which allows both dogs and horses on the beach. Also, even though the island is compact, it has a fabulous selection of restaurants and it is convenient to Jacksonville and the airport. Additionally, Amelia has lots of history and Fort Clinch state park.

I stayed here with my daughter and her best friend. We loved the location. On the beach, I got up at 7am to watch the sunrise both days we were there. Each day I walked the beach (my guess 4 miles in each direction). The beach is great for walking. What's great about the beach is that dogs are allowed so everywhere you look there are dogs with thier owners enjoying the beach. As far as the duplex goes we had comfortable beds. The place is tiled and equiped with what you need. I am looking forward to coming back and staying here again. The location is great. The house is nice and will meet all of your basic needs. I loved down town I listen to livemusic 5 diffrent places had great food in cool little restrants.
Owner response:Thanks for the review. I'm fortunate to have return visitors year after year who love my cottage. The cottage is in an incredible location on the beach and convenient to everything. Amelia Island has lots of charm and of course the beaches are gorgeous.

We had never been to Amelia Island before but had heard a lot about it. The location of the rental was perfect--close to everything and right on the beach. The weather didn't cooperate entirely, but that just gave us more time to read. It was an added plus that we could bring our little dog with us. The restaurants on the island were wonderful and the downtown was nice to wander around. We highly recommend Ciao Bistro (across the bridge) and Cafe Karibo. Pat, the owner, was very helpful and responsive. The wi-fi worked perfectly and it was nice having cable TV, even though we only watched it to catch up on the news. Overall, a very relaxing vacation and good value for the money. If we do this again, we would probably go in October when it's not so hot. My memorable moment was watching the dolphins playing right outside our window. What a sight!

We just returned from spending 4 glorious days in this ocean side cottage. We could not have been more pleased with the location with the beach only being steps away from the back porch deck. It was great being able to just throw off your shoes and walk the uncrowded beach any time of the day or evening. The view from the cottage is awesome -- especially in the morning when the sun rises were spectacular -- one of the nicest times to walk along the shore, searching for shells, etc. The cottage itself is very comfortably furnished and well maintained. We were 4 adults and it was perfect for us. There are lots of nearby restaurants, some located right on the ocean with great views (and great food). Fernandina beach is a wonderful vacation spot, especially for adults. There are not many children's activities (e.g. water parks, etc.) which added to its historical charm. If you are looking for the perfect beach get away location, this charming cottage on the beach cannot be beat!
Owner response:Thank you so much for your review. I'm so glad you had a nice visit. I love those sunrises also and at dusk the whole ocean looks silver!

We have vacationed at this cottage for the past 2 years and loved it both times. It is very clean, comfortable and you couldn't possibly get any closer to the ocean! There is a big picture window in front overlooking the ocean. We take our pets and they love it too. While the house is pet friendly, everything is very clean and you can't tell pets have been there. We rent both sides of the duplex and it accomodates our large group comfortably. We will definitely go back again.
Owner response:Thank you Angela for your kind words. I love the location and setting of the cottage too and the fact that furry friends get to join their families and enjoy the beach. I have numerous families that return year after year and have come to think of the cottage as their home away from home. I'm so glad that your family had a nice time and I hope you'll be back again! PS. I've received some amusing pictures from my guests of their furry family members on the beach in sunglasses, bandannas etc over the years!

Our family had an amazing week out in this lovely bungalow. We took our horses up with us from Miami, they stayed out in Debbie Mansers stalls and we took them out on the beach riding nearly everyday that week. It was absolutely amazing. The duplex itself was charming, very comfortable and clean. The best part was stepping out the back door and just being able to walk right up on the beach. I highly recommended to anyone who wants to have a good time!

Wow! This cottage had amazing views of the beach! We were so thrilled to be there every morning we awoke to our "babes" Huckleberry and Finnegan wanting to go out and catch some waves. They were so excited to get their paws wet each morning that they had us up before 6:00AM. What a way to start the day coffee and pastries on the back porch watching the sun come up and in the evening watching the sun go down with a great bottle of wine and the whole family near sprawled at our feet! Pam, Thanks again! Michelle, Mike, Finnegan and Huckleberry

I had an amazing time in Amelia island. Staying in this apartment, I was in awe and shock when I walked in the the sun shinning the the window reflecting of the ocean. The apartment is maybe 50 yards from the water. Our First day there the weather was perfect and we saw Dolphins swimming, clear as day, out the living room window! The beachs are filled with beautiful shells. The people are friendly and the local food is great! (Try the clab cakes!) Downtown amelia area is beautiful! Be prepared for live music and fun shopping trips. The ice cream and fudge shops are a must! We ended all our days with the sunsets, they are beautiful.
Owner response:I get this kind of reponse often and have renters that come year after year. People are amazed when they arrive and see the view from my cottage for the first time. One of my favorite things to do in the morning is to go out on the back steps with a nice cup of coffee and watch the dolphins that often come close to shore in the morning. The beach is truly beautiful and it is a quaint and charming island.
