We recently returned from our stay on the North Shore. This cozy little apartment was a great place for my husband and I. It was great for what we needed. It was a great value. The beach chairs, mats, towels, boogie boards, snorkeling gear and bikes saved us a lot of extra money. Location was pretty good. About 15 minutes from Haleiwa. Ted's Bakery around the corner was amazing! We really enjoyed our stay and wouldn't hesitate recommending this apartment to anyone!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, sightseeing, age 55+, adventure seekers.
Owner response: So glad you enjoyed the place and your stay with us! Mahalo for the great review! Kurt

My boyfriend and I rented this studio for 3 nights to get the North Shore experience (I live on another part of the island, he lives on the mainland)... and I think we are both sold on NS living now! The studio is in a great area - right across from Velzyland and within easy walking/biking distance to some of the best surf breaks in the world. Also, close to Ted's Bakery, Foodland, and a bunch of food trucks, so you can cruise to the beach on the two bikes provided and then grab lunch somewhere! Kurt and his family live in the attached house but we never really saw or heard them, except on our first night when there was a neighborhood-wide power outage and Kurt came by to bring us some candles and a headlamp. They also gave us access to their fins, so we ended up having a killer snorkeling session in Waimea Bay, hanging with 3 big honus (sea turtles)! Our 4 days on the North Shore were relaxing and fun, and the studio was great for us because we prefer to cook at home, and there was a full kitchen! A rarity in most studios :) We had a fantastic time and I would recommend this place to other couples looking for a cozy surf vacation!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, sightseeing, adventure seekers.

We loved this little hideaway. Spent two weeks here. Very private and close to everything. Enjoyed beautiful morning beach walks with a mug of coconut coffee every day. Nice decor, nothing fussy, just clean beach chic. Loved it! Would totally stay again. Owners are available but invisible :)Recommended for: Romantic getaway, sightseeing, age 55+, adventure seekers.
Owner response: I cannot thank you enough for the review and for staying with us. Loved the review part, Owners are available, but invisible! We always want people to feel they have privacy as well as if they are home hanging out without anyone bothering them.

My husband and I had a fantastic stay at this studio in April. The owners made us feel incredibly welcome, and made sure we had all we needed for a relaxing beach vacation. We loved staying on the North Shore! It was a low key retreat, as promised. Our days were spent enjoying the many beautiful beaches in close proximity to the studio -- relaxing on the beach, swimming in the ocean, and watching world class surfers. We also rented stand up paddle-boards, took a boat out to "swim with the sharks" and had great meals in Hale'iwa. We mostly got around by bike or on foot, but taking the public bus was also an easy and inexpensive way to get around. The studio was bright, clean, and comfortable. It had everything a hotel room would have had, and more. The full kitchen allowed us to stock up on groceries and prepare our own meals during the day. We loved the convenience and atmosphere of staying so close to the beach. And there was great upside to being away from a resort atmosphere. From the moment we arrived, we did not have to deal with any hassle, crowds, or noise. It was a wonderful vacation. Thanks again for providing us with such a lovely place to stay, and for being so friendly and helpful. We hope to return again soon!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, sightseeing, tourists without a car, adventure seekers, girls getaway.

We had an awesome week at Sunset and the studio was a great place to come back to after a day surfing/sunbathing! We were visiting the north shore mainly for the surf and the location of the studio was great, only a short bike ride to Sunset Beach and Pipeline. The studio itself was clean and private and was as described. The studio is located on a residential street so expect the usual noises that come along with that. We had some of the best dinners at the food vans all over Haleiwa - the Thai van was amazing!. The best coffee and smoothies by far was at the coffee gallery. We would definitely book this studio again. Thanks again!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, sightseeing, age 55+, adventure seekers.
Owner response: Aloha Rachel, It was very nice to have you stay with us and so glad you had a wonderful time. Please do come stay with us again if you make it back out. Mahalo! Kurt, Mane, & Delsin

A one minute walk to one of the most famous beaches on Oahu's North Shore? A 5 minute bike ride to, perhaps, Hawaii's most famous beach (beach cruisers compliments of the host!)? Cozy, comfortable, private accommodations with a loft that suited our 12 year old son to a tee. A wealth of information about the area is supplied by Kurt in the check-in welcome packet. Don't miss out on a surf lesson with Buttons Kaluhiokalani's surf school while you're there - also a suggestion of our host and the highlight of our trip. Mahalo to Kurt and family!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, romantic getaway, age 55+, adventure seekers.
Owner response: A Super Big Mahalo to you for staying with us and more so for having a great time with Buttons and his family of friends out surfing! Nothing like reading and hearing you had a wonderful time staying with us on your trip! Happy New Year!

Location
Owner info
Year Purchased: 1997
Why the Owner Chose Sunset Beach:
I bought the house because it is located across the street from one of the best surf spots on the North shore. The house has some history as it was at one time Big Wave surfing Pioneer Mark Foo's Childhood home. The main part of the house still has a big wave painted on the wall from when I purchased it back in 1997. Times have changed and so has the neighborhood, but the charm of the area hasn't.
The Unique Benefits at this Studio:
You will be staying at home with Solar Hot Water and Solar Electric. We are connected to the grid, but this is a fully sustainable home.
