Newry chalet description
This is the closest freestanding home to the slopes at Sunday River. Walk across the street to the trails or up the groomer path around the corner to South Ridge. Great access to the slopes makes coming home for lunch and apres ski easy and quick!
This is the first chalet ever built at Sunday River. Its vintage charm includes antique ski posters and a collection of Sunday River maps from earlier years. This family-friendly chalet has great karma from generations of family members learning to ski here. Relax on the front deck and watch skiers coming and going on the Roadrunner trail and walking up to the lodge. Enjoy a view of the rushing brook on the back deck as you grill up dinner on the gas grill located on the back deck.
It's totally family and group-friendly, with sleeping accommodations in a bunk room with bunks that are 3-high and a loft with four twins or one king and two twins. It's great for two families traveling together.
The bath is large with a shower, and comes equipped with lots of towels for use at the pool too. The living room includes a wood stove, a TV/VCR/DVD and a collection of oldies-but-goodies videos. There's also a radio/CD player. Seating is on two couches and some very comfortable rockers and chairs. There's also a table in the living room for playing board games.
The greenhouse dining room is bright and cheery offering a good vantage point for skiers coming and going on Roadrunner. A round table will seat up to 6 people, and there's another table seating 3 in the living room.
The kitchen is equipped with a cooktop offering 4 burners, a convection/toaster oven (big enough to cook a medium pizza) and a fridge/freezer. There is no traditional oven or microwave. There's a wide assortment of dishes, silverware and glassware plus pots and pans. Help yourself to spices and other food stocks on the kitchen shelves.
Apres ski is covered. The chalet comes with a membership to Brookside Recreation Center, just down the hill from the chalet. After an active day of skiing, soothe your muscles in the outdoor heated pool or the enormous hot tub. The kids will love being in a warm pool surrounded by snow! There's also a TV with cable access, wi-fi and a sauna here too.
The chalet is stocked with paper towels, toilet paper, paper plates, towels, sheets, blanket and wood. There's also a free trolley service which picks up and drops off just steps from the front door of the chalet and will take skiers to all the lodges on the mountain.
There's so much to do at Sunday River year-round. Beyond skiing in the winter, there's ziplining, geocaching and hiking year-round. Kids love the Bethel Adventure Center with a water slide open in the summer and laser tag year-round. The beautiful streams and covered bridges are a great place for exploring in the spring, summer and fall. A fabulous golf course is nearby and available in the summer, plus the fall foliage is just beautiful here.

Great for a Couple's Getaway
Great for a Couple's Getaway
My boyfriend, myself and two other couples stayed at this chalet last January for MLK Weekend. The chalet was warm and inviting upon our arrival at around midnight as the owners had made sure the heat was on for us. We started a wood fire and kept it going all weekend - so nice and toasty we didn't use the monitor heater at all after! We had a wonderful and entertaining weekend. Some of our party scouted the various bars around the resort for the best viewing of the NFL playoffs. Some boarded - so convenient having the slopes right outside the door! Some of us did some sightseeing (there is a beautiful covered bridge not far from the road to the Jordan Bowl part of the resort) and shopping at some of the area shops. We played lots of board and card games at night and comfortably slept soundly with plenty of beds. The highlight of the weekend had to be the three or four trips we took to the outdoor heated pool down the hill. So much fun to be swimming while snow fell down on our heads! We mostly cooked at home in the well stocked kitchen, but did enjoy one dinner out. There were so many options at all of the parts of the resort as well as down the hill in Bethel, but we stayed close to home and enjoyed a pig roast at the South Ridge Lodge and great pub food at the Foggy Goggle there. A great weekend - we can't wait to all go back together this winter! Thanks so much to the owners for their hospitality!
