There are no next door neighbors at Lazy Bear's Rest. All you'll see from the deck is the view. Situated on 25 acres certified as a Wildlife Habitat by the National Wildlife Federation, Lazy Bear's Rest is the perfect romantic getaway for 2 in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Sightings of deer, wild turkeys, or even a bear or bobcat are possible.
The experience begins on the deck of this 900 square foot luxury accommodation. Enjoy the long range view of the Piedmont, Sauratown Mountain and Hanging Rock.
Once inside you'll be swept away by the interior. The living area includes a plasma screen tv hooked to a home theater system, DVD, and CD player, gas log fireplace, full kitchen with dishwasher, microwave, coffee maker, icemaker, and everything you need to cook that special meal or cook on the gas grill on the deck.
The spacious bath, decorated in the Art Deco style, includes a whirlpool tub as well as a shower. The bedroom, also done in Art Deco, has a queen size bed. In the closet you will find two fluffy robes to use after enjoying the sauna or the hot tub, both located on the deck. In the evenings you can snuggle around the outdoor firepit.
For the outdoor enthusiasts, there is plenty of hiking. You can take a picnic or your favorite book and enjoy the tranquility at Lazy Bear's private water fall. Relax in the hammock for two under the trees in the cool shade in the summer or snuggle under the Pendleton blanket in the cooler months. You can bring your own ATV and ride the trails. Take a thermos with coffee and watch the sunrise from "The Rock" at Lazy Bear Vineyard.
If you want to explore beyond Lazy Bear's neighborhood, we are convenient to the Blue Ridge Parkway, Mt Airy, NC (Mayberry USA), New River Trail, Mabry Mill, Devil's Den Nature Preserve, Historic Hillsville, Olde Mill Golf Course, Blue Ridge Music Center, Applewood Music Center (Cana, VA), Rex Theater, Levering Orchard (seasonal outdoor theater), Chateau Morrisette, and many more area attractions. Special events nearby include Floydfest, Wine Down the Music Trail, Galax Fiddlers' Convention, Autumn Leaf Festival (Mt Airy) and the Hillsville Flea Market. Numerous antique shops are within easy driving distance in Mt Airy and Galax. You can enjoy wine tasting at Villa Appalaccia (music events in the warm months), Shelton Vineyards, West Wind Winery, and Old North State Winery.

Why the Owner Chose Fancy Gap
We live on the mountain and built Lazy Bear's rest in 2004. Our goal was to create a place for two people to get away from it all and enjoy each other's company. It's worked. We've had two weddings on the property. It's not unusual to hear that our guests are honeymooning or celebrating an anniversary.
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin
The Art Deco theme of the interior is not often seen in the mountains - we've collected many of the pieces ourselves over the past 20 years. When you're outside, you can walk to our private waterfall, Lazy Bear's Rock, or take a peek inside our authentic Sioux tipi. Feel free to inspect the vineyard and ask for a sample of Lazy Bear's vintages. Sit by our little spring pond and listen to the birds. It's all here for our guests to enjoy.

We've been enjoying Fancy Gap since 1999 when we purchased our property. Having lived here full time since 2003, we can't say enough about Fancy Gap and the surrounding area. Personally, we enjoy the peacefulness and serenity of Fancy Gap Mountain. The views are spectacular and, on a clear evening, we can see all the way to the lights of High Point, NC! Our interests lie outdoors - whether it's hiking, riding our ATVs, harvesting our grapes, or sitting on "The Rock" looking out over the Piedmont. It's all here - come see for yourself.

Thank you for a wonderful time. My wife brought me up here to celebrate my 30th birthday and we had a blast. Truth be told, we took greater advantage of the technical gadgetry within the cabin than the natural beauty outside, as we watched a lot of the NCAA tournament. But, what a setting. This place is gorgeous - both inside & out. Thanks for making my big 3-0 a memorable one.

When we first arrived it was dark outside, however we saw such beauty in it just as it was. We walked in and talked about how cool it was, and pondered on all the beauty inside, but when we woke the very next morning, and saw the beauty as we looked out over the balcony we were in awe...This was a surprise birthday gift to me and it was so much more than just a surprise. The beauty & the entertainment that we found just relaxing, taking everything in, and most of all just enjoying the company of each other. Everybody's life gets so hectic at times, and just being together kicking back was finding the real beauty in life. We will be back....

We're back! Thanks for such a wonderful Valentine's weekend. We enjoy so much our relaxing time here. This was our first trip in the winter and the view of the valley was absolutely breathtaking. The lights looked like jewels in the night. With 3 children, my wife & I have learned to appreciate the quiet time together, and the Lazy Bear allows us to do just that. I'm sure we'll see you again soon.

What a joyful memory you have helped us to create. As the moon shone down on the snow, it gave an image of sparkling diamonds. Much to my surprise the man I love presented me with a diamond of my own. And as we begin our life together as husband and wife, we will always remember this peaceful "Heaven on Earth". Thank you for being so accomodating. I had a most relaxing stay at the cabin. The weekend retreat was remedial for the time that my fiance and I don't usually get to spend together. We both loved the place so much that we have already begun to think about setting a return date and I have also recommended it to some friends.
