Set in the heart of Ireland surrounded by the wonderful majestic Lough Ree (one of the three major lakes on the river Shannon), Glasson is one of the most famous landmarks in the Midlands. As the song goes 'Lough Ree oh Lough Ree where the three counties meet, Longford, Westmeath and Roscommon', this picturesque and welcoming village is situated on the Westmeath/Longford boarder. Glasson is famous for its hospitality with its award winning pubs and restaurants. Located on the shores of Lough Ree it is often referred to as 'The Village of the Roses' and it is considered by scholars to be the 'Sweet Auburn' of Goldsmith's 'Deserted Village'. Originally built as an estate (Waterstown) village, Glasson still retains its old world charm, beauty and tranquillity. There are many historic buildings and monuments in the area including the old schoolhouse built in 1844, lakeshore and forest walks, angling, cruising and golf are some of the activities that can be enjoyed locally. There is something for everyone on the established walks around Glasson, whether you simply want to enjoy the beauty of nature or find subjects for photography you will not be disappointed.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2005
About the owner: Both my husband and I work internationally and have travelled to nearly every corner of the world between us over the years so we know what is needed when it comes to relaxation and getting away from it all! Going back to Glasson is like 'chicken soup for the soul' - we just love wakening up and seeing the beautiful countryside and lakes just outside our window. Not being a country boy, my husband is constantly surprised by the cattle and horses in our neighbouring field that come to greet us in the mornings! This is our true getaway from it all!
Why the Owner Chose Glasson:
Having grown up in the area, it was always my dream to own a house in Glasson. The area has captured my imagination from a young age from the beautiful scenery to very fact that around every corner there seems to be something more magical awaiting. As I got older, I was further impressed by the availability of beautiful unpretentious pubs and restaurants locally that offer good food and great hospitality. I also love the fact that there is so much to do in the locality and no where seems too far to travel to when you are located in the very heart of Ireland. Thankfully my husband was easily persuaded and Glasson is now where we call home (despite the fact that we do not get to visit too often!)! My family live in a neighbouring village so being close to them is an added bonus of having a home in Glasson. We bought the property as a run down home and totally gutted it in 2007. It has been a complete work of love over the past few years and we are now happy to share it with you!
The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
Peace. Tranquility. Fresh Air. Recharging of batteries. Slow pace of life. All the home comforts and luxury one could want. Good food, good hospitality, great people, diversity of choice from Lizzy Murrays pub where the locals go for ceoil agus craic (music and fun) to the Wineport (directly across the water from our cottage) where you could bump into Bono (from U2) as he arrives in style! This is what living and enjoyment is all about! Who could ask for more?
